Fri Aug 2217:57Athletics Recall Eduarniel Nunez
The Athletics right-handed flamethrower Eduarniel Nunez will rejoin the big league roster after being optioned on August 6. The 26-year-old will fill Ben Bowden's (lat) spot in the bullpen. Nunez was acquired at the trade deadline from the San Diego Padres and has put together a nice season in MiLB (across Double-A and Triple-A), with a 2.48 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 14.85 K/9. However, during his first stint in the Majors earlier this season, he struggled to the tune of a 9.00 ERA and 2.57 WHIP in six appearances. He will now get another chance to showcase his high upside this time around. For Nunez, it's all about his control. He features a 109 Stuff+ and averages 97.9 mph four-seamer, but has a poor 65 Location+ and a 21.6 percent walk rate. At this time, Nunez can remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Fri Aug 118:30Eduarniel Nunez Recalled from Minor Leagues
The Athletics are promoting right-handed pitcher Eduarniel Nunez from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to their contest on Friday evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nunez was included in the package that sent Mason Miller and JP Sears to the San Diego Padres. Nunez made his major league debut earlier this summer with the Padres and logged 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball with four hits and a 2:4 K:BB. He has spent the majority of the campaign split between Double-A and Triple-A. With Double-A, Nunez logged 22 2/3 innings with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. However, at Triple-A, Nunez was quite impressive, tossing 12 1/3-straight shutout frames. Fantasy managers should expect Nunez to begin his tenure with the Athletics in a middle relief role in the bullpen.

The San Diego Padres have traded right-handed pitcher Eduarniel Nunez, Braden Nett, Henry Baez, and top prospect Leodalis De Vries to the Athletics in exchange for right-handed pitcher Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears. Nunez made his MLB debut earlier this season and held a 3.86 ERA across a brief 4 2/3-inning stint. During this stretch, Nunez struck out just two hitters. He has spent most of his season split between Double-A and Triple-A. Through 35 total innings of relief in the top levels of the minor leagues, Nunez posted an impressive 2.31 ERA with a strong 1.03 WHIP. During this stretch, he struck out an impressive 56 hitters while allowing just 17 walks. Given his impressive production in the minor leagues, Nunez could have a role in the Athletics' bullpen during the final weeks of the season.
