Wed Jul 2 | 15:13 | Spencer Schwellenbach Going on Injured List With Fractured Elbow |
The Atlanta Braves will place right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) on the injured list with a fractured right elbow, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Gabe Burns. It's yet another devastating blow to a Braves team that just hasn't been able to catch a break in 2025. There's no specific timetable given for Schwellenbach, but based on the severity of the injury alone, it wouldn't be a surprise if he misses the rest of the 2025 season. It's especially bad news for Atlanta's starting rotation with lefty Chris Sale (rib cage), last year's National League Cy Young winner, on the 60-day IL as well. Schwellenbach was in the midst of a breakout season in 2025 in his second year, going 7-4 with a 3.09 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 108 K's and only 18 walks in 110 2/3 innings over 17 starts. Owen Murphy or Didier Fuentes could take Schwellenbach's rotation spot. UPDATE: Schwellenbach thinks his recent increased velocity might have caused the fracture in his elbow. He's hoping to be back later in the season, but until the fracture heals, he won't resume throwing and there won't be a real timetable for a potential return. |

Wed Jun 11 | 21:17 | Spencer Schwellenbach Strikes Out Nine in Complete Game |
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach threw the first complete game of his career and earned the win in a 6-2 win against the Brewers on Wednesday. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out nine over the nine frames. He has only pitched less than six innings in a start two times all season, and four of his past six outings have been at least seven innings. Not only has he been extremely efficient, but he also has excelled at missing bats, with two 11-strikeout performances in that same span. The youngster is giving Chris Sale a run for his money as the best pitcher on that staff, and he'll carry a 3.11 ERA and 1.00 WHIP into his next start against the Mets. |

Sun Sep 29 2024 | 19:41 | Spencer Schwellenbach To Start Game 1 On Monday |
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach will be tasked with taking the mound for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the New York Mets. The plan is for Schwellenbach to pitch in Game 1 and Chris Sale to take the ball in the night cap. It's worth noting that the Braves would clinch a postseason berth if they win the first game.
