Sun Aug 1718:45Samuel Basallo Collects First Career Hit
Baltimore Orioles catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo made his MLB debut against the Houston Astros on Sunday. It was a fairly quiet day for Basallo, but he was able to make some noise late in the game. Basallo smacked a two-RBI single in the eighth inning for his first career hit. He would finish this game 1-for-4 with two RBI and was also hit by a pitch. This was the first of many hits for the young prospect. Basallo figures to get regular playing time down the stretch in Baltimore. The 21-year-old should be rostered in most fantasy formats, assuming he gets regular at-bats.

Sun Aug 1710:05Samuel Basallo Called Up From Triple-A Norfolk
The Baltimore Orioles have called up their top prospect, catcher Samuel Basallo, for his major-league debut. MLB.com's No. 8 prospect overall was slashing .270/.377/.589 with 23 home runs in 76 games for Triple-A Norfolk. The 21-year-old has big-time power potential with at least 19 home runs in each of the last three seasons in the minors and has shown a keen eye at the plate as well, recording a 13.7 percent walk rate this year for the Tides. While he's a catcher by trade, the 6-foot-4 Dominican has logged 20 games at first base in 2025, and he's eligible at both positions in Yahoo leagues. With the fantasy upside he can provide, assuming the Orioles are going to give him regular at-bats, the left-handed slugger should be rostered in most 12-team leagues.

Fri Aug 814:33Samuel Basallo Riding Three-Game Home Run Streak
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo has continued to flash immense power upside at Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. In each of his last three games at Norfolk, the top catching prospect in the sport has gone deep at least once and posted two multi-hit performances. Over his last 14 total games with the Tides, Basallo has held an eye-catching .362/.429/.862 slash line with eight doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBI, and an elite 1.301 OPS. Through 71 total games at the top ranks of the Baltimore system this season, the 20-year-old budding superstar has posted a .278/.387/.621 line with 16 doubles and 23 home runs. Given his elite power upside, fantasy managers should continue to view Basallo as a top hitting prospect to stash in all 12+ team leagues. With the Orioles out of the playoff picture, Basallo could make his long-awaited MLB debut in the coming weeks.

Wed Aug 623:13Samuel Basallo Homers Again
Baltimore Orioles catcher prospect Samuel Basallo went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. The 20-year-old phenom showed off his impressive power to all areas of the field, crushing a 1-1 changeup to left-center field. He's now homered for the third consecutive game and has multiple RBIs in three of his last four. This monster stretch during August has nudged his season-long OPS over 1.000 as he's compiled 23 homers in 71 games. His .335 isolated slugging is the best among all Triple-A hitters. Basallo has some of the best raw power of any prospect with a smooth, adaptable lefty swing that allows him to hit for damage on a variety of pitch locations. The quality of contact is absurd, and he makes plenty of contact to not be overly concerned with the swing and miss. He should be viewed as the best prospect in baseball and stashed away in fantasy leagues for his eventual arrival.

Tue Aug 523:05Samuel Basallo Belts 22nd Homer
Baltimore Orioles catcher prospect Samuel Basallo went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI in Tuesday's 12-1 blowout win against Triple-A Rochester. Basallo did damage at the plate all night and has continued his dominant season. The 20-year-old is hitting a ridiculous .278/.386/.612 in 293 plate appearances with Triple-A Norfolk. The quality of contact is absurd for a player of his age playing at Triple-A, with a 55.7% hard hit rate, 20.6% barrel rate, and a 115.9 mph MaxEV. He's paired it with the ability to make contact at an above-average rate and display good swing decisions. The sky is the limit for Basallo, who should be making his MLB debut anytime now. Orioles general manager Mike Elias has expressed his desire to get the stud prospect exposure to big league pitching, and he is a priority stash in standard fantasy leagues.

Mon Aug 406:23Samuel Basallo Hits 21st Home Run of the Season
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo continued his impressive campaign at Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Facing Memphis, the top-ranked backstop prospect in the minor leagues went 2-for-5 with his 21st round-tripper of the campaign. This outing snapped a brief five-game skid for the 20-year-old. During this slump, Basallo went just 3-for-22 at the plate with only one extra-base hit. Overall, through 69 games with the Norfolk Tides this season, Basallo has posted a strong .271/.382/.592 slash line with a .974 OPS and a 67:41 K:BB. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Basallo's production as he appears to be knocking on the MLB door. With the Orioles now firmly out of the playoff race, they could opt to give their top prospect a solid look in the majors over the final month of the season. He remains a top-hitting prospect to stash in all redraft leagues.

Fri Aug 111:01Samuel Basallo, Dylan Beavers Could Play in MLB This Season
According to Roch Kubatko, Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said he is hopeful that prospects Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers can play in the majors this season. The move to bring up Beavers would make sense given the O's just traded Cedric Mullins and Ramon Laureano. Beavers has been crushing the ball in Triple-A and is looking worthy of a chance to prove it at the big league level. As for Basallo, that situation seems more problematic with Adley Rutschman being the everyday catcher in Baltimore. There is certainly a way to put one of them at designated hitter and still use both players. The Orioles season doesn't appear to be going anywhere, so bringing up their prospects isn't a bad idea.

Tue Jul 2212:32Samuel Basallo to Resume Hitting, Could Return This Weekend
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo (oblique) will begin a hitting progression this week with hopes of returning for Triple-A Norfolk this weekend, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Basallo is working his way back from a right-oblique injury that has kept him out of action in the minors since July 13, but he has managed to avoid a stint on the injured list so far. The O's are definitely going to play it safe with the No. 9 overall prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline. The 20-year-old Dominican backstop has been slowed by several injuries in 2025, but he's still hitting .264/.383/.591 with a .975 OPS, 19 home runs, 48 RBI and 40 runs scored in 62 games with the Tides. Baltimore has so far resisted the urge to call Basallo up to the big leagues despite a rash of injuries at the catching position this year, but they might not be able to keep him away for much longer.

Sat Jul 1914:12Samuel Basallo Dealing With Oblique Injury
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo (oblique) is dealing with an oblique injury that will prevent him from playing for Triple-A Norfolk this weekend, Jacob Calvin Meyer of the Baltimore Sun reports. It's unclear if Basallo will sit out beyond then, though oblique injuries often lead to lengthy absences. The Orioles are sure to play it safe with Basallo, MLB Pipeline's ninth overall prospect and the No. 1-ranked catcher in the minors. The 20-year-old has dazzled this season at Triple-A, where he has slashed .264/.383/.591 with 19 homers, 48 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 39 walks in 253 plate appearances. Basallo has made a compelling case for his first promotion to the majors and could be up later this season if he stays healthy.

Mon Jul 1414:32Samuel Basallo Cranks 19th Home Run on Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and four RBI on Sunday for Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles' top-ranked prospect (MLB No. 10) had been in a bit of a slump from late June toearly July, going 3-for-24 (.125) with one home run over a nine-game stretch, but is 7-for-18 (.389) over his last five games including three doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, and a 3:4 BB:K. The 20-year-old is now hitting .264 on the year along with a .383 OBP thanks to a strong 15.4 percent walk rate, and is boasting a .591 SLG. A bigleaguedebut in the second half is likely, and with the ability to play first base or DH as well, there are multiple paths to the majors and to at-bats once he gets there. The left-handed slugger with huge power is a top stash candidate in deep leagues ahead of his eventual call-up.

This is an excellent sign for the budding star as he posted a modest .222/.267/.370 through his first 22 games with Triple-A Norfolk during the 2024 campaign. The 20-year-old phenom hit a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Tides the lead for good and continues an outstanding season at Triple-A. He leads all hitters in hard-hit rate at 58.5 percent and only trails the recently promoted Roman Anthony in barrel rate. His prodigious power combined with his ability to make consistent contact make him one of the best prospects in baseball. The Orioles have gone through a flurry of injuries at the catcher position, but Basallo has yet to receive the call.
