Wed Jun 25 | 01:03 | Hurston Waldrep Has Mixed Outing on Tuesday |
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings as he took the loss against Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Waldrep wasn't in the zone consistently enough, with 49 of his 94 total pitches thrown for strikes. The right-hander was able to generate 10 swing and misses on 34 swings in this outing. However, the lack of control continues to plague him. He's allowed three or more walks in eight of his 14 starts this season. The Braves could have called upon him to join the rotation recently, but instead opted for 20-year-old right-hander Didier Fuentes. Waldrep will likely continue to iron things out in the minor leagues for the time being. |

Mon Jun 16 | 06:48 | Hurston Waldrep Punches Out Six on Sunday |
Atlanta Braves right-handed pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep tossed six innings of one-run ball en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. In this outing, Waldrep struck out six batters and allowed seven hits and just one walk. This was a much-needed bounce-back outing for the former 24th overall pick as he allowed a season-high six runs in his last outing on June 8. Through 57 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett this season, Waldrep has had mixed results as he sits with a 5.84 ERA and a 170 WHIP. However, Waldrep has flashed decent strikeout upside, tallying 62 over this stretch. Last season, Waldrep made his MLB debut but only made two starts and served up 13 earned runs. If Waldrep can continue to find his footing at Triple-A, he could be in the mix to return to Atlanta in the second half. |

Wed Jun 4 | 00:57 | Mixed Outing From Hurston Waldrep on Tuesday |
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep took the loss in an 8-4 loss against Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four. It was a disappointing outing from Waldrep from a control standpoint, as it was his first start allowing four or more walks since April 25. Tabbed with a 70 grade splitter out of Florida, Waldrep threw the pitch only five times out of 87 pitches tonight. The 23-year-old has mostly struggled at Triple-A, with a 5.33 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and a 56:30 K:BB. The injuries continue to mount in the Braves' rotation, but it still would seem unlikely that Waldrep is called upon anytime soon. |

Thu May 15 | 01:06 | Hurston Waldrep Records Quality Start |
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep allowed two runs on three hits and three walks across six innings against Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. He struck out six. The 23-year-old has strung back-to-back effective outings, giving up only four runs and allowing five hits in 11 1/3 innings while striking out 16. The former Florida pitcher made his MLB debut last season and struggled with 13 runs allowed in only seven innings. The right-hander's season-long numbers in 2025 are still poor, with a 5.77 ERA and an elevated 14.7% walk rate. While the Braves have dealt with some injuries in the rotation, it appears Waldrep needs more refinement in the minor leagues before being brought back to the majors. He is currently ranked as the 2nd overall prospect in the Braves system on MLB.com. |

Thu May 8 | 23:12 | Hurston Waldrep Strikes Out 10 On Thursday At Triple-A |
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep got back on track on Thursday after a few less-than-stellar outings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out 10 hitters in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Even after this strong performance, the 23-year-old owns a 6.35 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in seven starts thus far (28 1/3 innings). With Bryce Elder and AJ Smith-Shawver up with the big-league club and pitching well enough, along with Spencer Strider (hamstring) about to rejoin the rotation, there's no need to rush the Braves' third-ranked prospect back to the majors. The righty made two starts for Atlanta last season but allowed 13 earned runs in seven innings pitched over two starts. The former first-round draft pick will likely be needed at some point later this season, but there is no need to stash him at this time. |

Tue Apr 1 | 23:14 | Hurston Waldrep Fans Seven In Win At Triple-A |
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep pitched well in his first start of the Triple-A season, going five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk whilestriking out seven on the way to earning the win for Gwinnett. The 2023 first-round draft pick made quick work of the minors, eventually getting a call-up to the majors in June of 2024. It was a quick audition, though, as the righty allowed 13 earned runs over his two starts on nine hits and a poor 8:3 BB:K. The 6-foot-2 hurler owns a 3.01 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 14.4 percent K-BB% in the minors, and if he performs well to begin the year, expect that the Braves will give him another shot at some point this season. He's likely rostered in dynasty leagues already, but with his arsenal and a first-round pedigree, redraft managers should be on notice again in the event he gets another call-up. With injuries already startingto rear their ugly head as Reynaldo Lopez goes on the IL, the Braves may need his services sooner than expected. |

Wed Feb 26 | 09:42 | Hurston Waldrep Optioned To Triple-A |
Atlanta Braves starting pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. As a result, Waldrep will begin the 2025 campaign at the top level of the minor leagues. Last season, the right-hander made his MLB debut but struggled as he allowed 13 earned runs across seven innings of work. The 22-year-old made one appearance during spring training before being optioned to the minor leagues. Waldrep spent the majority of the 2024 campaign with Double-A, where he held a strong 2.92 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP across 49 1/3 innings of work. During his first 40 innings at Triple-A, the former first-round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft held a high 3.38 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP. If Waldrep performs well at Triple-A during the opening months of the season, he should push an early return to the major leagues. |

Wed Feb 19 | 12:50 | Hurston Waldrep Bringing His Curveball Back |
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Justin Toscano writes that Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep is working to bring his curveball back this spring. Waldrep, the team's first-round selection in 2023, has a fastball, elite splitter and a slider that he's developed, in addition to the curve that he's reintroducing in spring training. It should give the 22-year-old hurler another weapon to attack left-handed hitters with as he attempts to win a rotation spot with the Braves in 2025. Waldrep will likely start 2025 at Triple-A Gwinnett, but he could be one of the first arms back with the big-league club if injuries hit the starting rotation. He struggled in his first two big-league starts in 2024 before suffering an elbow injury that cost him six weeks. Waldrep's stuff is real and nasty, but he's going to need to improve his command to succeed at the next level. |
