Wed Jul 223:31Kevin Alcantara Goes Deep Wednesday
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 10-6 win over Triple-A Omaha. Alcantara slugged his 10th homer of the season and is knocking on the door for 10 stolen bases with nine so far in 282 plate appearances. The 22-year-old is coming off a strong month of June, slashing .306/383/.486 with a 9:22 BB:K. He's consistently made hard contact with a 49 percent hard-hit rate for the year. However, the 6'6" outfielder has some contact issues as he also owns a 30% strikeout rate. The upside is through the roof with Alcantra's power and speed combo, although we are unlikely to see him in the majors this season.

Thu May 2207:02Kevin Alcantara Hits Two Home Runs on Wednesday
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-3 with two round-trippers during their contest against Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Alcantara tallied three RBI. Over his last four contests, Alcantara has gone deep three times and tallied eight RBI. However, prior to this stretch, Alcantara carried a 16-game power slump. During this skid, the 22-year-old posted a modest .203/.282/.266 slash line with just four doubles. Through 37 total games at Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara has posted a solid .248/.325/.426 slash line with 10 doubles and five long balls. Last season, the No. 74-ranked prospect in the sport received a brief taste of MLB action and tallied one hit across three games. However, given Chicago's depth in the outfield, Alcantara may have to wait for his first extended look in the major leagues.

Thu Apr 1708:10Kevin Alcantara Tallies Four Hits On Wednesday
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI during their contest against Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday. This was Alcantara's first round-tripper of the young campaign. Through the first 13 games of the regular season, Alcantara has posted a strong .271/.368/.417 slash line with four doubles. He has swiped two bags and held an 8:20 BB:K. Alcantara enjoyed similar success during his first taste of Triple-A last summer when he posted a .292/.378/.469 slash line with eight doubles and five home runs. Across this 35-game stint, Alcantara swiped seven bags and held a 17:43 BB:K. Even though the Chicago outfield is quite crowded, fantasy managers should expect Alcantara to be in the mix to return to the majors later this summer.

Mon Mar 1709:32Kevin Alcantara Sent To Triple-A Iowa
The Chicago Cubs have optioned outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa. Alcantara was in the mix for a spot on the Opening Day roster but will instead begin his season at the top level of the minor leagues. Last season, the 22-year-old made his MLB debut. Across a short three-game stint, the outfielder tallied just one hit. Earlier in the season, he appeared in 76 contests at the Double-A level and posted a .271/.342/.409 line with 13 doubles and nine long balls. He was then promoted to Triple-A, where he held an impressive .292/.378/.492 slash line with eight doubles and five long balls across his first 35 games at that level. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his progress, as he should return to the majors when the Cubs need additional depth in their outfield. During the start of the regular season, Vidal Brujan will operate as the depth outfielder.

Tue Mar 1118:54Kevin Alcantara Not Traveling To Tokyo
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara will not travel with the team to Tokyo. While the 22-year-old has not been officially optioned to Triple-A, this suggests he will likely open the 2025 campaign in the minor leagues. Alcantara is one of the top bats in the Chicago system. Last season, he made his brief MLB debut. Across three contests, he tallied just one hit. He spent most of his campaign with Double-A and held a strong .271/.342/.409 slash line with 13 doubles and nine home runs. Across 35 games with Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara held a stellar .292/.378/.469 line with eight doubles and five long balls. While Alcantara has flashed elite upside in the upper levels of the minor leagues, he will have trouble finding time in the majors given the depth in the Chicago outfield. He is worth monitoring in deeper NL-only formats but should not be targeted in any drafts.

Mon Feb 2423:48Kevin Alcantara Stays Hot With RBI Double On Monday
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 10-5 Cactus League win over the Padres. He's now 6-for-11 this spring with a pair of doubles and four RBI. The 22-year-old is putting his best foot forward in his audition to make the Cubs roster out of camp, but there isn't room for him in the outfield right now, so a start at Triple-A is more likely rather than having him get sporadic playing time on the bench. At this point, it is only a matter of time until he's roaming the outfield, though, as he'll surely be called upon if one of the regulars gets injured. The Dominican began at Double-A last season, but earned a promotion to Triple-A where he slashed .292/.378/.469 over 35 games (148 PA), then made a three-game cameo with the Cubs at the end of the year. The 6-foot-6 outfielder is ranked 90th overall per MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects list and has the potential to be a 20/20 player if given the proper playing time. Assuming he starts at Triple-A, redraft managers will want to be ready to pounce and grab him off of the waiver wire as soon as he gets the call.

Wed Feb 1908:06Kevin Alcantara Could Be No. 2 Option In Center Field
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara is expected to be the team's No. 2 option in center field to open the season. While former top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong is slated to be the team's everyday center fielder, Alcantara could get the call if he struggles or suffers an injury. Alcantara is ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the system and 65th best in the sport on MLB Pipeline. He made his MLB debut last season and tallied one hit across three games. However, last season, the 22-year-old was also given his first extended look at both Double and Triple-A and was able to hold his own. In 76 games at Double-A, the outfielder held a .271/.342/.409 line. Across 35 games at Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara posted a strong .292/.378/.469 slash line. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his production in spring training, as he could be a viable stash candidate in NL-only leagues if he performs well.

Wed Sep 25 202417:02Cubs Recall Kevin Alcantara
The Chicago Cubs recalled outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday and optioned outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni to the Arizona Complex League in a corresponding move. Alcantara, the team's No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, earned the late-season call-up after batting a combined .278/.353/.428 with a .781 OPS, 14 home runs, 61 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 61 runs scored in 111 total games with Iowa and Double-A Tennessee this year. The 22-year-old outfielder is extremely athletic for his size (6-foot-6, 188 pounds). He hits from the right side and also throws right-handed. Alcantara could get a little run to close out the Cubs' 2024 season this weekend, especially if Seiya Suzuki (ankle) is unable to return. Alcantara can get long with his swing because of his size, but if he can shorten his swing down, he has easy 30-homer power at the next level.

Thu Aug 8 202408:10Kevin Alcantara Hits First Triple-A Home Run
Although it has been only two games, Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara has not missed a beat since his promotion to Triple-A Iowa. The big outfielder went 1-for-3 with a home run on Wednesday and is now 2-for-6 in his first two games with Iowa. The 22-year-old spent most of his season with Double-A Tennessee, but his recent promotion makes him one step closer to making his big-league debut with the Cubs. Between both levels, Alcantara is hitting .273 with 10 homers, 40 RBI and seven stolen bases in 297 at-bats. Alcantara has really improved his plate discipline this season and his all-around potential gives him a very high ceiling moving forward. Managers in dynasty leagues should consider giving Alcantara a look in his new home.

Mon Aug 5 202407:42Kevin Alcantara Set To Join Teammates In Triple-A
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara will join fellow prospects Matt Shaw and James Triantos in Triple-A Iowa on Monday. Alcantara, 22, is the currently the Cubs No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline and has spent the entire season with Double-A Tennessee. With Tennessee, Alcantara hit a respectable .271 with nine homers, 39 RBI and nine stolen bases in 291 at-bats. Alcantara stands tall at 6'6, 188 pounds, offering plenty of athleticism to go along with his powerful bat. He has also improved on his plate discipline since last year, allowing him to continue to improve at the dish. Although he isn't the Cubs top prospect, he may have the highest ceiling of their position players and should be on the radar of dynasty league managers.

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara stayed hot on Thursday by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This extended his hitting streak to an eye-catching 10 games and an extra-base hitting streak to four games. Alcantara was in a bit of a slide through June as he held a disappointing 1.79 AVG but has clearly put those struggles way behind him as he is riding a season-best .365 AVG through July. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a nice season at Double-A and could see the final weeks of the season at Triple-A if he continues this strong play.

Fri Jul 12 202413:15Kevin Alcantara Swinging A Hot Bat In July
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara has performed very well in the batter's box through the first half of July at Double-A Tennessee. Across nine games, the 22-year-old has posted a remarkable .368/.419/.526 line with one home run, 10 RBI, and a 4:11 BB:K ratio. This is a stark contrast to the disappointing .179/.289/.205 line he held through June. Overall, the outfielder has been able to perform very well at times through his first extended look at Double-A pitching. Alcantara could earn an opportunity to get a brief taste of Triple-A before the end of the season and remains on track to make his major league debut next summer.

Sat May 25 202407:55Kevin Alcantara Breaks Out Of Skid With Four-Hit Performance
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 4-4 at the plate on Friday with a double, one RBI, and a stolen base. Alcantara entered this game, hitting a mere .200/.286/.280 line over the past week. This is the 21-year-old first true look at Double-A pitching, as he only appeared in five games at this level last year. This season he holds a solid .248/.298/.376 line with four home runs three stolen bases, but a poor 10:37 BB:K ratio. Alcantara has showcased his strong power and speed combination in the minor leagues before, with a 15/14 season at Single-A in 2022 and a 12/15 season at High-A last year. He is projected to join the major league roster next season but may have a difficult time finding a steady opportunity as the Cubs have three established outfielders on their roster and top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is expected to be the center fielder of the future. Nonetheless, Alcantara could be worth adding in dynasty leagues if he joins Triple-A Iowa this summer.

Thu Apr 18 202407:45Kevin Alcantara Hits First Homer
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-4 with a home run on Wednesday for Double-A Tennessee. The home run would be the first of the year for the 21-year-old. Alcantara has been off to a very slow start this year, hitting just .086 with a stolen base and hopefully Wednesday round-tripper will get him going. It is only nine games in, so there is no concern for the talented outfielder. Alcantara offers loads of potential and the power should continue to blossom as his body fills out, but he needs to become more disciplined at the dish to reach his full potential. The Cubs have plenty of outfield depth throughout their system, but Alcantara has arguably the most upside. If he can improve his vision at the plate, Alcantara could be a star at the next level. Dynasty managers should consider Alcantara moving forward.

Mon Mar 4 202408:29Kevin Alcantara Goes Deep
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 1-for-2 with a solo home run versus the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Alcantara, 21, spent most of 2023 in High-A South Bend with limited action in Rookie Ball and Double-A. Between all three levels, Alcantara hit .284 with 13 round trippers, 71 RBI and 15 stolen bases to go along with 105 strikeouts and 36 walks over 435 plate appearances. The Cubs have a crowded outfield at both the big-league level and on the farm, which should lead to the likely outcome of the 6'6 power hitter to remain in the minor leagues in 2023. Strikeouts will be a big part of his game, but his blend of raw power and speed are intriguing enough to roster him in dynasty leagues with the expectation that he could be a few years away.

Wed Jun 7 202313:41Kevin Alcantara Homers In Four-Hit Game
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara went 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI, three runs, and a stolen base in a game for High-A South Bend. The 20-year-old has disappointed in his first season with South Bend, slashing .253/.280/.393 with a 24.6% strikeout rate and 3.2% walk rate in 41 games. However, he has heated up lately with a 1.074 OPS and seven runs in his last seven games. The 6-foot-6 outfielder has displayed his elite power and speed, with four home runs and 11 stolen bases on the season. He is years away from the MLB, but his raw talent makes him a must-roster in dynasty leagues.

The Chicago Cubs reassigned first baseman Matt Mervis, outfielder Kevin Alcantara, infielder David Bote, pitcher Nick Burdi, outfielder Ben DeLuzio, pitcher Brendon Little, catcher Dom Nunez, pitcher Manuel Rodriguez and pitcher Cam Sanders to minor-league camp on Thursday. Alcantara, 20, looked really good in Single-A in 2022 and has intriguing power/speed capabilities, but he's likely a couple years from his potential big-league debut.
