Thu Jun 5 | 00:29 | Orelvis Martinez Clubs Another Homer on Wednesday |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored against Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. It marked the second straight day with a home run after yesterday's two-homer outburst. He has matched his home run total from all of May in three days in June and looks to be rounding into form. Martinez slugged 28 homers in 125 games with good walk and strikeout rates in 2023. After a lost 2024 season with the suspension, Martinez has scuffled over the first two months, but has big-time power and could be called up at some point in the summer. He would be worthy of a speculative add in deeper formats. |

Wed Jun 4 | 00:41 | Orelvis Martinez Hits Two Homers on Tuesday |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI against Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. The 23-year-old bounced back to a solid .811 OPS in May after a miserable April when he slashed .147/.237/.279 with a 39.5 percent strikeout rate. The whiff rate is still high at 37.2 percent, and his batted ball metrics are decent, with a 40.6 percent hard-hit rate and 8.5 percent barrel rate. He's flashed impressively high exit velocities in the past, but there is a lot of swing and miss. There's a good chance we'll see Martinez up with the Blue Jays as we get into the summer. In which case, he'd make for a deep league or AL-only add. |

Thu Mar 20 | 19:34 | Orelvis Martinez Headed To Triple-A |
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday. Martinez missed a few games after getting hit by a pitch in the hip earlier in the week. He has since returned to action, but didn't make the big league club. Martinez did everything right this spring with a .320/.393/.480 slash line across 28 plate appearances. The Jays want Martinez to get everyday at-bats in the minors until they have a full-time role for him in Toronto. Dynasty managers should continue to hold Martinez as he should make a big impact once he's ready to play in Toronto. |

Mon Mar 17 | 19:39 | Orelvis Martinez Removed Early On Monday |
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez (hip) was forced to exit early during Monday's spring training contest. Martinez is considered day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch in the hip during his lone plate appearance. It sounds like he's only dealing with a bruised hip, so this isn't something that should sideline him for long. Martinez was already unlikely to make the Opening Day roster, but it shouldn't be long before he's playing everyday in Toronto. The 23-year-old has some legitimate power in his bat, so he could be an immediate impact player once he gets the chance to play everyday. |

Tue Feb 25 | 10:16 | Orelvis Martinez Showing Power Early In Grapefruit League |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez has gone 2-for-4 with a double and home run during his first two spring training games. Martinez has also held a 1:1 BB:K ratio. The infielder went deep during Saturday's contest against the New York Yankees. The 23-year-old is expected to see time at both the keystone and the hot corner throughout camp. Martinez made his MLB debut last summer but was only able to appear in one game before being hit with an 80-game PED suspension, which ended his season. However, Martinez will be eligible to return at the start of the season. Last summer, the 23-year-old flashed elite power at Triple-A as he went deep 17 times across 74 games. He posted a .267/.346/.523 line with a 27:76 BB:K ratio. Given the time he missed last summer, he will likely open the season with Triple-A Buffalo. |

Fri Feb 21 | 07:06 | Orelvis Martinez Bouncing Between Second And Third Base |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez is expected to split time between second and third base during spring training. Blue Jays manager John Schneider noted that the infielder still has a lot to prove on the defensive side of his game. Last season, Martinez got the call to the majors in June but was only able to play in one contest before being suspended for PED use. However, he has served his suspension and is eligible to return to the MLB. In 74 contests at Triple-A last season, the No. 2 ranked prospect in the system posted a .267/.346/.523 line with 19 doubles and 17 home runs. He held a 27:76 BB:K ratio and did not swipe a bag. During spring training, fantasy managers should expect Martinez to compete for a depth role alongside Addison Barger and Will Wagner. However, given the time he missed due to the suspension, he will likely open the campaign at Triple-A. |

Mon Sep 23 2024 | 21:28 | Orelvis Martinez Sent To Minors After Serving Suspension |
The Toronto Blue Jays optioned infield prospect Orelvis Martinez to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday after he finished serving his 80-game suspension. Martinez will now return to the team's spring training complex to close out the year after being suspended for 80 games due to performance-enhancing substances. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, made his big-league debut this year but played in just one game. In 74 games at Triple-A Buffalo, he hit .267/.346/.523 with an .869 OPS, 17 home runs, 49 RBI and 54 runs scored in 319 plate appearances. The 22-year-old Dominican will likely stick at either second or third base at the next level and has great power despite his shorter stature. Martinez has already shown impressive improvement in the plate-discipline department and seems likely to have a regular role in the big leagues in 2025 for a team looking for more offense. |

Sun Jun 23 2024 | 12:06 | Orelvis Martinez Suspended 80 Games For PEDs |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the league's drug prevention and treatment program. Martinez tested positive for clomiphene, a performance-enhancing substance. The move comes shortly after the 22-year-old received made his major-league debut on Friday. While Martinez could return later this season when his suspension is up, fantasy managers in single-year formats that picked him up after his promotion can now safely drop him. In his only game played for Toronto on Friday, he went 1-for-3 with a strikeout. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder out of the Dominican must remain stashed in all dynasty/keeper leagues for his plus power at a middle-infield position. |

Fri Jun 21 2024 | 16:52 | Orelvis Martinez Making MLB Debut On Friday |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez is making his major-league debut on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Carlos Carrasco, starting at second base and batting eighth. The Blue Jays' No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will be playing for the first time since he was called up from the minors earlier this week. The 22-year-old Dominican has impressive pop for a middle infielder, but he has a tendency to swing and miss a lot and could rack up the strikeouts in the early going in the big leagues. Martinez got the call to Toronto by hitting .260/.343/.523 with an .867 OPS, 16 homers, 46 RBI and 46 runs scored in 63 games for Triple-A Buffalo this year. The power is enticing in fantasy, but it doesn't look like he's going to be playing regularly and could be sent back to the farm at any time. |

Mon May 27 2024 | 16:51 | Orelvis Martinez Slumping In Triple-A |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez has been struggling at the plate over the last two weeks in Triple-A Buffalo. In 43 plate appearances, he's gone 4-for-37 with only three walks and 16 strikeouts. Interestingly, each of his four hits has been for extra bases (two doubles and two home runs). While he's had trouble making contact, he's been noticeably unlucky when he puts the ball in play. During this stretch, Martinez has a .100 BABIP. The league average BABIP is generally around .300, suggesting that some of his woes resulted from misfortune. Despite this recent slump, he's still having a solid year. In 192 plate appearances, Martinez is slashing .240/.325/.515 with 10 doubles, 12 home runs, and 36 RBI. |

Mon May 13 2024 | 14:25 | Orelvis Martinez Hits Tenth Home Run |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk on Sunday against the Worcester Red Sox. Over the previous five games, he had managed only one hit and three walks in 17 plate appearances. Despite a cold spell, Martinez has been excellent in Triple-A. Through 36 games with the Buffalo Bisons, he's hitting .277/.362/.569 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, and 31 runs scored. Positionally, he spent his first 22 starts at second base. However, two of his last six starts have seen him at third. It may be that Martinez is taking reps at the hot corner in preparation for his major league debut. According to MLB.com, that debut should come sometime this year. |

Mon May 6 2024 | 23:27 | Orelvis Martinez Stays Hot |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez continued to hit on Sunday for Triple-A Buffalo, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, putting his season slashline at .296/.367/.574. If there is a question as to whether or not Martinez is ready to face major league pitching, his RBI single was a liner to left field off of Pirates pitching prospect Paul Skenes, who is about as close to major league pitching as you'll find in the minors. The 22-year-old doesn't have much left to prove in the minors after hitting at least 28 home runs in each of the last three seasons between the ages of 19 and 21, and tallying eight so far in 2024. His promotion to the big league club feels more or less imminent, so managers in need of some power production should consider stashing him ahead of time if possible. |

Mon Apr 22 2024 | 10:29 | Orelvis Martinez Has Incredible Week |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez had an incredible week for Triple-A Buffalo. Martinez, 22, went 10-for-28 with five home runs and 13 RBI. The young budding star has been on a tear this season and overall has hit an astounding .333 with 6 six homers, 18 RBI and a 1.073 OPS over his first 18 games. Martinez has done enough offensively to prove his point to the Blue Jays front office, but it is his defense that it appears the club wants to be certain on with Martinez as he already has five errors. Martinez was brought up as a shortstop, but has exclusively played second base for Buffalo with Bo Bichette set at the shortstop position for the Blue Jays. Martinez is currently on the 40-man roster and offers much more upside than the currently second base operation of Davis Schneider and Cavan Biggio. If Martinez continues to tear the cover off the ball, he may force the Jays hand very soon. As of now, he is worth a speculative add in deeper formats and should already be rostered in dynasty leagues. |

Fri Apr 19 2024 | 07:56 | Orelvis Martinez Crushes Go-Ahead Home Run |
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop/second base prospect Orelvis Martinez launched his third home run of the season in the top of the ninth inning, which eventually served as the game-winner. The 22-year-old went 2-5 in Thursday's game and is batting .305/.359/.576 across the young part of the season. Martinez is doing much better in Triple-A this season compared to last year, where he hit for a .263/.340/.507 slash line with 11 home runs. Martinez is making quite a case for a promotion and should come up as a second baseman, since Bo Bichette will continue to serve as the team's shortstop. The second-ranked prospect in the Toronto system is worth stashing in deeper leagues for now. |

Wed Apr 17 2024 | 22:59 | Orelvis Martinez Crushes A Grand Slam Wednesday |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez launched a 469-foot grand slam on Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo. It was the only hit he had in the game, but it was a big one as it put the Bisons ahead in extra-innings and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. The 22-year-old is making his best case for a promotion, hitting .296 with six doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, and 13 runs scored over 14 games in 2024. Bo Bichette has him blocked at shortstop though, so he'd have to play third or second base. Wherever he ends up, he'll bring plenty of pop with his 60-grade power. |

Mon Apr 8 2024 | 15:00 | Orelvis Martinez Picks Up Three More Hits |
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Orelvis Martinez went 3-for-5 with three runs and a double for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. Martinez is now hitting ,296 on the young season. The 22-year-old hasn't homered yet, but the power should come as he has 28 or more in the past three seasons on the farm. With Bo Bichette entrenched at shortstop, Martinez has been playing second base and provides some added competition to Cavan Biggio and Davis Schnieder at the big-league level. Martinez has always shown plenty of power and his upside is much greater than Schnieder and Biggio. Should the Blue Jays feel comfortable with him defensively at second base and the later two struggle, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Martinez make his big-league debut in 2024. Martinez should already be rostered in dynasty leagues and is a name to keep an eye on in redraft formats. |

Sun Aug 27 2023 | 19:02 | Orelvis Martinez Continues Strong Season In The Minors |
Toronto Blue Jays prospect Orelvis Martinez has continued his strong offensive season, bouncing back from a horrid start to 2023. One month into the season, the shortstop was sitting at just .089/.159/.240 with three home runs. Since then, Martinez has hit .269/.377/.539 with 20 HRs in 87 games, including a July promotion to Triple-A Buffalo. The 21-year-old appears on most post-draft Top-100 lists and has answered some concerns regarding his on-base skills as he has hit .242/.344/.496 in 102 games. Even without an opening at shortstop, the bat could still play somewhere in Toronto in the coming weeks. Martinez could provide a power boost over the final stretch of this season and could earn a regular role in 2024. |

Wed Aug 2 2023 | 09:42 | Orelvis Martinez Has Plenty Of Power In His Bat |
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop/third base prospect Orelvis Martinez has struggled since being promoted to Triple-Buffalo on July 17. Martinez, 21, hasn't hit much for average at either stop this season, but has shown plenty of power out of his bat with 19 homers between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo. He has also driven in 56 runs with a .223 batting average. Martinez has always shown plenty of power in his bat, but his pitch selection has been his biggest barrier thus far. With Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette currently day-to-day with knee inflammation and the possibility of an injured list stint, Martinez would make for an exciting replacement, but the Blue Jays acquired Paul DeJong in a deadline deal and also have fellow shortstop Addison Barger in Triple-A. Martinez is worth rostering in dynasty formats due to his power, but managers shouldn't expect that to be on display in the big leagues this season. |

Wed Jul 12 2023 | 21:25 | Orelvis Martinez Expected To Be Promoted To Triple-A |
Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to be promoted from Double-A New Hampshire to Triple-A Buffalo in the coming days. After making pitch recognition and swing decisions a focal point after he hit just .203 with 30 home runs a year ago at New Hampshire, Martinez is currently slashing .230/.344/.494 with an .838 OPS, 17 home runs, nine doubles, a triple, 46 RBI and 33 runs scored in 69 games in 2023. He's hit .301 over his last 47 games. The 21-year-old's strikeout percentage is down from 28.5% to 19.8%, while his walk rate has gone from 8.1% to 14.2%. With Matt Chapman due to be a free agent after this year, Martinez could be the immediate replacement at third base for Toronto in 2024. |

Wed May 31 2023 | 16:22 | Orelvis Martinez Blasts 14th Home Run |
Toronto Blue Jays No. 4 prospect Orelvis Martinez launched his 14th home run of the season and the 11th in May alone. The power surge is nothing new for the 21-year-old, who managed 30 long balls across 118 games in 2022 and 28 over 98 appearances in 2021. Martinez's 60-grade power has never really been called into question. Instead, it's his plate discipline that leaves the organization wanting more. He's cut his strikeout rate to 22.4% while his walk rate is up to 12%. Still, Martinez carries just a .781 OPS due to his .179 batting average, down from .203 last season. His prolific power potential will make for an appealing fantasy asset, but it's clear Martinez has work to do before he gets called up to the majors. |
