Thu Jun 1919:06Brett Baty Out on Thursday but Feeling Better
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty (groin) remains out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Atlanta Braves, but he said that his injured groin is feeling better. Baty was able to do some running and change-of-direction drills before the game and noticed some improvement. However, he's unclear if he'll be available off the bench. Ronny Mauricio draws another start at third base and will hit ninth against Braves right-hander Spencer Strider with Mark Vientos (hamstring) still on the injured list. Although Baty is feeling better, he could join Vientos on the IL if he's unable to return to the field during this weekend's big divisional clash in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Baty was one of the team's more consistent hitters in May but has gone 6-for-44 (.136) with two homers, four RBI and 14 K's in 14 games in June to drop his season average to .219.

Thu Jun 1900:27Brett Baty Could Land on Injured List
The New York Mets are considering an injured list stint for infielder Brett Baty (groin), who missed his second straight game in Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Braves with a groin injury, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Baty is making progress, but slower than the Mets had hoped. They are likely to make a decision before Thursday's series finale in Atlanta. Regular third baseman Mark Vientos (hamstring) is already on the IL, so if Baty heads there, too, young infielder Ronny Mauricio would continue to see the majority of the starts at the hot corner in Queens. Baty hasn't played since Sunday and has gone just 6-for-44 (.136) with two homers, four RBI, a steal and 14 strikeouts in 14 games in the month of June after having his best month offensively in May. Mauricio has intriguing long-term upside but lacks plate discipline and came into Wednesday's game hitting just .184 in 11 games in 2025.

Wed Jun 1818:34Brett Baty Remains Out on Wednesday
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty (groin) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Baty was forced to exit early during Sunday's game due to groin tightness. The Mets had a scheduled off day on Monday, but since then Baty has missed the next two games. For now, Baty should be considered day-to-day, but could end up requiring a trip to the injured list. The Mets are currently shorthanded with Mark Vientos (hamstring) on the shelf. That being said, Ronny Mauricio will cover third base and bat ninth versus left-hander Chris Sale on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineup accordingly ahead of first pitch.

Tue Jun 1716:06Brett Baty Heads to the Bench With Groin Injury
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (groin) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Ronny Mauricio will man the hot corner instead and will hit eighth against Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach. Despite a day off on Monday, Baty will not make the start after exiting Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays with tightness in his right groin. In addition to his injury, the 25-year-old has hit a rough patch at the plate in the month of June, going 6-for-44 (.136) with two homers, four RBI, a steal and 14 strikeouts in 14 games played to drop his season slash line to .219/.267/.419 with a below-average .686 OPS. The former first-rounder has been seeing regular playing time at third with Mark Vientos (hamstring) on the injured list. Mauricio has gone 7-for-34 with two homers, two RBI and two steals in his first 10 games of the season.

Tue May 2714:56Brett Baty Hitting Fifth on Tuesday
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty is making the start at second base and is batting fifth in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Chicago White Sox and right-hander Jonathan Cannon. Baty has been one of the team's most productive hitters in the month of May, leading to his highest lineup positioning of the year. The 25-year-old former 12th overall pick in 2019 has gone hitless in the last two games but is 14-for-50 (.280) with five home runs, a double, 13 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 17 games in the month of May to raise his season slash line up to .240/.275/.471 with a .746 OPS in 104 at-bats. It's nothing to write home about, but the post-hype prospect could finally be finding his groove offensively at the big-league level. Baty is worth a waiver-wire pickup if he's available in deep-mixed leagues and is an attractive DFS play on Tuesday as well.

Sat May 2409:04Brett Baty Homers, Gets on Base Three Times in Loss
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty went 2-for-4 with a walk anda solo home run in a 7-5 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers on Friday. It's the second straight multi-hit game for the left-handed hitter, a much-needed burst of offense that comes on the heels of a 1-for-15 (.067) stretch at the plate. Still, five of his six home runs and 11 of his 15 RBI have come in the last two weeks since the 6-foot-3 slugger's recall from Triple-A. Baty was not in the original lineup on Friday as he replaced Mark Vientos, who was scratched with abdominal soreness, but if Vientos remains out, Baty would get the nod against Tony Gonsolin on Saturday, whom he's seen just once in his career (0-for-1, K). Gonsolin allowed four earned runs on four hits and five walks his last time out and is allowing an .871 OPS to left-handed hitters in four starts this season compared to .556 against right-handed hitters, so Baty could be in play as a cheap DFS option.

Thu May 2201:18Brett Baty Has Big Night in Win Against Red Sox
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 5-1 road win against the Boston Red Sox. The 25-year-old singled twice, drove in three runs, and stole a base. In an attempt to shake up the lineup, manager Carlos Mendoza gave Baty his first start against a lefty all season, and he didn't disappoint with the opportunity. He ripped a single in the top of the second off Bo Sox starter Garrett Crochet to collect his first hit, driving in Mark Vientos -- and nearly Luis Torrens -- to give the Mets their first run. Then, in the top of the seventh, Baty singled again -- this time knocking in two. Since returning from Triple-A, he's notched four two-hit outings, but is just 1-for-21 across his other eight appearances.

Wed May 1400:36Brett Baty Hits Firth Homer Of Season Tuesday
New York Mets second/third baseman Brett Baty had a nice game at the plate in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Pirates. Baty went 2-for-3 with a single and a solo home run. The 25-year-old lined a seventh-inning Mitch Keller offering just over the left-field fence to put the Mets ahead for good. The former fantasy prospect hasn't hit for a high batting average but has provided power in 2025, slashing .239/.270/.521 with five HR, 11 RBI, and a stolen base in 75 plate appearances. While his power is somewhat intriguing, Baty hasn't provided enough overall and has played very little against left-handed pitching, limiting his fantasy value.

Sun May 1111:56Brett Baty On The Bench Against Southpaw
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty will return to the bench with a left-hander on the mound in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. Mark Vientos is starting at the hot corner and is hitting cleanup against Cubs southpaw Matthew Boyd. Baty will take a seat after starting each of the last three games and going 4-for-12 with three home runs and six RBI. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter has struggled at the plate in the big leagues since his debut back in 2022, but he appears to be coming around of late and hit two homers and drove in all five of the team's runs on Saturday. If Baty continues to swing a hot bat, Vientos could find himself on the bench more often despite a breakout campaign in 2024. Baty is still hitting only .227 (15-for-66) on the season with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and seven runs scored in 22 games played.

Sun May 1108:23Brett Baty Hits A Pair Of Home Runs, Drives In Five In Loss
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty belted a pair of home runs in a 2-for-5 day at the plate during Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. The first home run was a three-run shot, and the second was a two-run blast, giving him five RBI and two runs scored in the contest. It was the second consecutivegame with a home run for the former first-round draft pick and the fourthof the season. Baty began the year with the Mets but was sent to Triple-A in late April, however, he was recalled this past Monday. After an 0-for-4 in his first game back, Baty is 4-for-8 with three home runs and six RBI in the last two games. Perhaps the 25-year-old goes on an offensive binge here, but caution is warranted as the left-handed slugger has been unable to maintain success at the major league level with a career .216/.280/.343 slash line over 672 plate appearances. He's eligible at both 2B and 3B on Yahoo! and available in most leagues for those willing to test their luck.

Mon May 519:15Mets Recall Brett Baty From Triple-A
The New York Mets are recalling infielder Brett Baty from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday before their series opener in the desert against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets optioned Baty to Syracuse on April 24, but only because of a roster crunch upon Jeff McNeil's return from the injured list. The 25-year-old had been dealing with a sore right toe in recent days, but it wasn't severe enough to prevent his call-up. Baty had three hits in his 10 at-bats with Syracuse and will return to a .204/.246/.352 slash line in the big leagues with a homer, four RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base. The former top prospect just hasn't been able to put it all together at the big-league level since debuting in 2022, and he'll serve as infield depth at both second and third base behind McNeill and Mark Vientos. Baty can be ignored in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu Apr 2421:44Brett Baty Optioned To Minors
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Well, this was expected with fellow infielder Jeff McNeil (oblique) being activated from the 10-day injured list. Someone needed to be sent down and Baty seemed like the good choice considering his struggles. So far, Baty is slashing .205/.246/.352 with one home run, four RBI, and a 19/3 K/BB ratio this season. The Mets are hopeful that Baty can still be an everyday contributor at some point. For now, Baty will head back to the minors to get everyday at-bats in Triple-A.

Tue Apr 117:07Brett Baty Sitting Against A Right-Hander
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty is on the bench for Tuesday's contest in Miami against the Marlins at loanDepot Park. Luisangel Acuna will make the start at the keystone and will hit eighth against right-hander Sandy Alcantara. Baty did not play on Opening Day last Thursday against a left-hander but then made three straight starts against righties, going 1-for-9 with a double and three strikeouts at second base. Acuna made the start at shortstop on Monday night with Francisco Lindor out for the birth of his son, but he'll slide back to second on Tuesday. On most days moving forward with Jeff McNeill (oblique) on the injured list to start the season, Baty will be on the strong side of a platoon at second for the Mets against right-handed pitching. Acuna, the younger brother of Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr., has just one hit and a stolen base in his first nine plate appearances in 2025 over four games.

Fri Mar 2817:07Brett Baty Starting At Second Base In Game 2
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty is starting at second base and batting eighth on Friday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown at Daikin Park. In the Opening Day loss to the Astros, Luisangel Acuna made the start at the keystone against left-hander Framber Valdez. With Jeff McNeil (oblique) on the injured list to begin the year, Baty and Acuna are expected to be in a platoon at second, with Baty facing righties and Acuna facing lefties. Especially after slashing .353/.441/.745 with four home runs in 20 Grapefruit League games during spring training, Baty is an interesting post-hype prospect for the Mets in the strong side of a platoon at second. However, hitting out of the eight-hole isn't great for his DFS upside. Baty comes into this one with one hit in three career at-bats against Brown.

Wed Mar 2616:43Brett Baty Makes Opening Day Roster For Mets
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty has made the team's Opening Day roster, according to the New York Daily News' Abbey Mastracco. The 25-year-old former top prospect made it a no-brainer move for the Mets to carry him on the big-league roster to open the year after he hit .353 (18-for-51) with four home runs, six doubles, a triple, 11 RBI and a stolen base in 20 Grapefruit League games. Mark Vientos is locked in at third base after his breakout season in 2024, but with Jeff McNeil (oblique) opening the season on the injured list, Baty is in line to be in the strong side of a platoon at second base with Luisangel Acuna. If Baty continues to hit well in the early going, the Mets could have a decision on their hands when McNeil is ready to return. So far, Baty has struggled offensively in 169 big-league games, slashing .215/.282/.325 with a .607 OPS, 15 homers and 55 RBI.

Mon Mar 1718:37Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuna Could Platoon At Second Base
It sounds like New York Mets infielders Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuna will both make the Opening Day roster out of camp and platoon at second base until Jeff McNeil (oblique) is able to return. Given his experience and the fact that he hits from the left side, Baty figures to open the year on the strong side of a platoon at the keystone in Queens with Acuna. The 25-year-old has deserved playing time to open the season, as he's currently hitting .343 (12-for-35) with two home runs and three doubles in Grapefruit League action. The former 12th overall pick in 2019 has yet to find much success at the big-league level in three seasons, though, hitting .215/.282/.325 with 15 homers and 55 RBI in 169 games. Acuna, 23, has hit just .226 in spring training, although he did go 12-for-39 (.308) with three homers and six RBI in his first 14 big-league games in 2024.

Thu Mar 1312:21Brett Baty Could Open The Year At Second Base
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty is projected to open the year at second base while batting eighth, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Regular second baseman Jeff McNeil (oblique) is being shut down for seven to 10 days and is likely to open the year on the injured list, which could open the door for Baty to get regular playing time at the keystone in Queens. The 25-year-old started 27 games at second last year at Triple-A Syracuse, although he's never played the position in the big leagues. Another scenario would include both Baty and Luisangel Acuna splitting second base duties until McNeil is healed up. Baty, one of the team's former top prospects, hasn't panned out yet, although he did see some progress with a lowered strikeout rate in his limited playing time in 2024. When everyone is healthy in New York, Baty will find it hard to see the field regularly.

Fri Feb 2117:23Brett Baty Getting Work At Shortstop
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty has been taking ground balls in camp at shortstop, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The skipper isn't ruling out Baty playing the position in exhibition games later in camp. "He's got the arm. It comes down to, can he get to the ball? Range and all that," Mendoza said. Baty's primary focus in spring training will be at third base and second base, though. The 25-year-old is slated to open the season as a utility infielder for the Mets, which makes sense that he's looking to increase his versatility around the infield to make himself more valuable in that role. He hasn't played anywhere besides third base in the big leagues, but he has played a little second and left field in the minors. Once one of the Mets' top prospects, Baty lost out on the third base gig in 2024 to Mark Vientos, and the re-signing of Pete Alonso didn't help Baty's cause this year.

Fri Dec 6 202419:49Brett Baty Drawing Trade Interest
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is drawing trade interest. Baty was drafted by the Mets with the 12th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Baty made his major league debut in 2022 but has never been able to find his footing at the big league level as he holds an underwhelming career .215/.282/.325 line with just 15 home runs. However, in Triple-A, Baty has shown solid upside as he sits with an overall .272/.368/.531 with 26 long balls across 94 games. Given his young age, Baty is an intriguing option for rebuilding teams to target, as he has dropped in trade value, given his struggles in the majors. In addition, given Mark Vientos' emergence this past season, Baty may face an uphill battle to find consistent playing time in Queens in 2025. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats should continue to monitor Baty's status during the offseason, as he could be worth looking into if he finds a full-time role with a new club.

Tue Nov 5 202416:18Brett Baty Could See Action In The Outfield
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns isn't ruling out the possibility that third baseman Brett Baty will see action in the outfield moving forward. The Mets were impressed with how quickly Baty picked up second base in 2024 and could further add to his versatility by playing him in the outfield in 2025. The 24-year-old lost out on the starting gig at the hot corner this year to Mark Vientos, so he'll need to move around more next season if he wants to stick around in the big leagues. Baty did see some time in left field in the minors in 2024, so the outfield won't be completely foreign to him. The former 12th overall pick in 2019 made his MLB debut in 2022 and has so far disappointed in 169 games, slashing .215/.282/.325 with a .607 OPS, 15 homers and 55 RBI. He's likely heading for a platoon role with the Mets in 2025.
