Fri Jun 27 | 10:34 | Spencer Torkelson Breaks Out of Slump |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson has been in an ugly slump, but was able to do some damage with the bat on Thursday. Before this game, Torkelson was 2-for-27 over his last seven games prior to Thursday's contest. He got the scoring started with a solo home run off left-hander Jeffrey Springs in the second inning. He would finish this game 2-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, and two runs scored in the win. The slump has certainly hurt his overall numbers, but Torkelson is still putting up his best season of his career. Fantasy managers should continue to hold him through his mid-season slump. |

Tue Jun 24 | 16:23 | Spencer Torkelson, Javier Baez Out on Tuesday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Spencer Torkelson and shortstop/outfielder Javier Baez are both out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Athletics. Colt Keith is at first base and is batting leadoff, while Trey Sweeney starts at the 6 and is hitting ninth against A's right-hander Luis Severino. Torkelson has had a strong 2025 season with 16 home runs and 49 RBI in 264 at-bats, but he's now been absent for two of the last three games and is in the midst of a 4-for-32 slump at the plate in his last nine games to lower his season slash line to .223/.330/.470. In more of a part-time utility role for Baez in 2025, he has come back from the dead to hit .290/.328/.473 with an .801 OPS, nine homers, 36 RBI and 37 runs scored for the first-place Tigers. Neither Keith nor Sweeney have faced Severino in their careers. |

Wed Jun 11 | 00:31 | Spencer Torkelson Hits 16th Homer Of Season Tuesday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson continued to hit for high-end power in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Orioles. Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two strikeouts. The 25-year-old turned on a fifth-inning Cade Povich fastball, getting it just over Colton Cowser's glove in straight-away center. The former top fantasy prospect is now providing the power fantasy managers had dreamed of, slashing .237/.341/.509 with 16 HR and 47 RBI in 273 plate appearances. He should continue to be a solid fantasy option while hitting in one of baseball's most surprisingly productive offenses. |

Fri Jun 6 | 21:52 | Spencer Torkelson Hits Go-Ahead Homer |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson came up clutch for his team during Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. It was a low scoring affair with a 1-1 tie heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Torkelson changed that quickly with a go-ahead solo home run off right-hander Ben Brown. It was his 15th home run of the season as Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a single, homer, and one RBI in the win. His stats have taken a dip lately, but Torkelson is still worth rostering in most fantasy formats. |

Mon Jun 2 | 18:35 | Spencer Torkelson Sitting Out on Monday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Torkelson will get a rest day here after registering only two hits over his last three games. The right-handed slugger has lost some steam after coming out of the gate hot to begin the season. Despite that, Torkelson still has good value because of his pop with the bat. Torkelson has 14 homers and 42 RBI, which makes him worth rostering in most fantasy formats. In his absence, Colt Keith will cover first base and sixth versus right-hander Jonathan Cannon on Monday. |

Sat May 31 | 09:09 | Spencer Torkelson Hits Home Run No. 14 on Friday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and one run scored on Friday in the 7-5 win over the Royals. The former first-overall draft pick continues to enjoy a resurgence at the plate after a disappointing 2024, now with 14 home runs and 42 RBI on the year. The 25-year-old is hitting .242, which is just below league average, but with a 12.7 percent walk rate, he's been able to record a solid .352 OBP with a .374 and a 145 wRC+. The right-handed slugger even dropped his strikeout rate to 21.9 percent in the month of May, which is slightly better than league average. Hopefully he can continue to produce for the rest of the season, but after going undrafted in most fantasy leagues before the season began, he's already far outperformed expectations. |

Wed May 14 | 17:04 | Spencer Torkelson Resting Against Red Sox |
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Spencer Torkelson is getting a breather in Wednesday's game against the visiting Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park. Torkelson will take only his second day off of the season despite clubbing his 11th home run in the extra-inning win over Boston on Tuesday night. The former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State is currently hitting a career-best .240 (37-for-154) and ranks first among all MLB first basemen so far in 2025 with his 11 long balls. He's also added 34 RBI in his 43 games played and has earned everyday playing time for the first-place Tigers. Expect him to be back in action after Thursday's off day for Friday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. Kerry Carpenter is serving as the DH and is batting leadoff on Wednesday, with Colt Keith at first and hitting third against Red Sox right-hander Hunter Dobbins. |

Thu May 8 | 23:51 | Spencer Torkelson Goes 5-For-9 In Doubleheader |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson went 5-for-9 throughout Thursday's doubleheader in two lopsided wins. The 25-year-old doubled twice, singled thrice, scored two runs, and drove in four, with the Tigers outscoring Colorado 21-3 across the twin bill. Torkelson has cooled off a bit from his power binge a few weeks ago and slumped slightly to end April. However, he's turned it on since the calendar flipped to May with at least one run scored in seven straight appearances. It's been an excellent start to 2025 for him, and his batted ball metrics look much closer to his 31-homer 2023 campaign than the lackluster 2024. Torkelson has tied the home run total he bolstered a season ago (ten) in 204 fewer at-bats. |

Wed Apr 30 | 12:19 | Spencer Torkelson Sitting For First Time This Year |
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Spencer Torkelson will get his first day off of the season in Wednesday's series finale against the hosting Houston Astros. Colt Keith will shift to first base and bat fifth, while outfielder Kerry Carpenter handles the DH duties and hits leadoff against Astros right-hander A.J. Blubaugh. Torkelson will get his first day of rest in 2025 after going 4-for-31 in his last nine games. However, the former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State has provided fantasy managers with plenty of production through the first month of the season, hitting .243 (26-for-107) with eight home runs, 24 RBI, 20 runs scored and a stolen base in 30 games played. He should be back for Thursday's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Nobody in Detroit's starting nine on Wednesday has faced Blubaugh. |

Fri Apr 18 | 07:19 | Spencer Torkelson Drives In Three On Thursday |
Detroit Tigers DH Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, three RBI, and a walk in a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Torkelson plated the first runs of the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning and later came back to add an RBI single in the eighth inning. Torkelson is off to a good start in 2025, hitting .286 with six homers, six doubles, 15 runs, 16 RBI, and a stolen base across 70 at-bats. He remains a solid corner infielder in all fantasy leagues. |

Sun Apr 13 | 08:56 | Spencer Torkelson Connects On Two-Run Homer |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson has been a nice surprise for this offense early in the season. Torkelson continued his success at the plate during Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 25-year-old smacked a two-run home run off Kody Funderburk in the sixth inning to help extend the lead. Torkelson would finish his day 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored in the victory. He's slashing .314/.419/.647 with four home runs and 10 RBI this season. He's red-hot right now so fantasy managers should take advantage of it while they can. |

Sun Apr 6 | 18:27 | Spencer Torkelson Smacks Game-Winning Hit |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson was struggling at the plate, but he came up clutch for his team during this game. Torkelson was hitless with one strikeout until he came up in the ninth inning. He smacked a two-RBI double to help give his team the lead in the final frame. It seemed like coming into this season that the Tigers were nearly ready to give up on the former first-overall pick. So far, Torkelson is slashing .324/.439/.618 with two homers and six RBI in the first nine games. He'll likely continue to pick up steam on the waiver wire, assuming his hot streak at the plate continues. |

Fri Mar 28 | 10:13 | Spencer Torkelson Hits A Home Run On Thursday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson hit a 423-foot laser to left field off of Alex Vesia in the seventh inning of the Tigers' 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Thursday's season opener. It was an excellent night for Torkelson, as he got on base in all five plate appearances and went 1-for-1 with four walks, two runs scored, and one RBI. Torkelson spent some time in Triple-A last season working on cutting down his strikeout percentage and getting on base more, so this is exactly what the Tigers and fantasy managers wanted to see to begin his 2025 campaign. He's off to a good start and will look to continue his success Friday and Saturday as the Tigers look to win a few games versus the Dodgers before heading to Seattle early next week. |

Wed Mar 26 | 15:39 | Spencer Torkelson Makes Opening Day Roster |
Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Spencer Torkelson, the former No. 1 overall pick, has made the team's Opening Day roster, sources tell the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold. Torkelson, who has so far been a disappointment for the Tigers despite hitting 31 homers and driving in 94 runs in 2023, will open the 2025 season on the big-league roster after slashing .340/.389/.680 with a 1.07 OPS, two doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI and a stolen base in 19 Grapefruit League games. Not only is the 25-year-old right-handed power bat on the Opening Day roster, but he figures to open the season as Detroit's primary designated hitter with Kerry Carpenter being needed full time in the outfield. After an impressive 2023 campaign, Torkelson's hard-hit numbers plunged and his strikeout rate went back up in 2024. The power is there, but he will need to perform and make more contact in order to keep regular playing time. |

Sat Mar 22 | 13:04 | Spencer Torkelson In Position To Make Opening Day Roster |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson has continued to impress in spring training and has put himself in a good position to make the Opening Day roster. Torkelson has been one of the most consistent bats in the Detroit lineup during camp, as he has posted a strong .302/.364/.581 slash line with four home runs. He held a 4:10 BB:K and swiped one bag. In addition to his improving bat, Torkelson has begun to see time in right field, which has only improved his chances of making the Opening Day roster. Throughout the start of his professional career, Torkelson has exclusively only played at first base. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he could open the season as a depth option on the roster. Last season, he posted an underwhelming .219/.295/.374 line with 10 home runs. If he continues to impress, he could eventually carve out time as first base behind Colt Keith, at right field, or even as a designated hitter. He is worth taking as a late-round flier in AL-only formats. |

Mon Mar 17 | 21:31 | Spencer Torkelson Could Play Regularly As DH |
The Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold writes that first baseman Spencer Torkelson could see regular at-bats this year at designated hitter. The Tigers could be rotating players around early in the year in the outfield with both Parker Meadows (arm) and Matt Vierling (shoulder) injured, which could mean more looks for Torkelson at DH if Kerry Carpenter is needed more in the outfield. The former No. 1 overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State University hasn't lived up to his draft stock to this point, even after clubbing a career-high 31 long balls and driving in 94 runs in his second season in 2023. The 25-year-old right-handed slugger took a step back last year, though, posting a .669 OPS with only 10 home runs in 92 games played. However, he's hitting .286 (10-for-35) with four homers and nine RBI in 14 spring training games and could be a sneaky late-round flier for some power in deeper fantasy leagues. |

Sat Mar 8 | 13:25 | Spencer Torkelson Goes Deep Twice On Friday |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson had a big day at the plate on Friday in the Grapefruit League win over the Baltimore Orioles, going 3-for-3 with two solo home runs. The former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State University is now hitting .350 (7-for-20) with three home runs, four RBI, one steal and four runs scored in eight spring training games this year as he vies for playing time in 2025 in Detroit. The 25-year-old right-handed power bat clubbed 31 home runs and drove in 94 runs in 2023, but he slashed just .219/.295/.374 with a .669 OPS, 10 home runs and 37 RBI in 92 games for the Tigers last year and looks to be the odd-man out as Opening Day approaches this year. However, Torkelson is still young and could force his way into regular playing time, either at first or DH, if he can continue making consistent contact given the raw power he possesses. |

Mon Feb 3 | 21:17 | Tigers Haven't Given Up On Spencer Torkelson |
The Detroit Tigers say they haven't given up on first baseman Spencer Torkelson despite trade speculation and the fact that he's posted a disappointing .693 career OPS in 1,469 MLB plate appearances. The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen writes that Torkelson's path to a roster spot in 2025 as a right-handed first baseman/designated hitter is difficult, and it might take an injury for him to have a shot. At the very least, he'll be competing with Justyn-Henry Malloy in spring training. Stavenhagen thinks the Tigers would rather have Torkelson around at Triple-A Toledo as an insurance policy than trade him away for nothing. The 25-year-old former first overall pick has a tougher path to playing time in Motown this year after the Tigers signed second baseman Gleyber Torres, which will push Colt Keith to first base. Torkelson had a .669 OPS last year and was demoted to the minors. |

Sat Jan 25 | 08:23 | Mets Interested In Acquiring Spencer Torkelson |
According to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, the New York Mets have shown interest in trading for Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson. The former No.1 pick in the 2020 MLB Draft had a disappointing campaign last summer and could be without a role in the starting lineup this season. In 2024, Torkelson posted an underwhelming .219/.295/.374 line with just 10 home runs. Earlier this offseason, the Tigers acquired second baseman Gleyber Torres and plan to move Colt Keith to first base. However, in 2023, the Arizona State product flashed some upside as he held a .233/.313/.446 line with 31 home runs. With Torkelson not having a defined role for the upcoming season, it could make him easier to acquire if the Mets are unable to resign Pete Alonso. The Mets might also acquire Torkelson to provide some depth at first base, as Mark Vientos will likely cover that position in the short term, which will leave Brett Baty, ... [ More] |

Fri Dec 27 2024 | 16:19 | Spencer Torkelson's 2025 Role Not Defined |
Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson's role for the 2025 season has yet to be defined, according to general manager Scott Harris. The Tigers signed infielder Gleyber Torres on Friday in free agency to be their everyday second baseman next year. Colt Keith, who was the starter at the keystone as a rookie in 2024, will shift over to first base next year. With the 25-year-old Torkelson's role up in the air, the Tigers will most likely look to shop him on the trade market. But if he stays in Detroit, the former top overall pick from Arizona State could end up being on the short side of a platoon at either first base or designated hitter. Torkelson hit 31 homers and drove in 94 in 2023 but took a big step backwards in 2024, was demoted to the minors for a bit and had a .219/.295/.374 slash line with just 10 homers and 37 RBI in 92 games. His stock is way down heading into fantasy drafts next spring. |
