Sun Jun 2912:30Adley Rutschman Throwing but Not Swinging
Baltimore Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said that switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman (oblique) has done some throwing but hasn't resumed swinging a bat yet. Rutschman is making progress from a left-oblique strain, but it's still unclear if the 27-year-old backstop will be ready to roll for the start of the second half of the season after the All-Star break on July 18. In the meantime, veteran Gary Sanchez will serve as Baltimore's primary catcher. Sanchez has plenty of swing and miss in his game, but the 32-year-old Dominican does still have some pop in his bat and recorded four hits and four RBI in a big game in Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. Sanchez's fantasy value in two-catcher leagues receives a boost until Rutschman returns. Rutschman, the former first overall pick, has been a fantasy disappointment in 2025 with eight homers, 20 RBI and a .227 average (55-for-242).

Sun Jun 2211:02Adley Rutschman Will Not Return Until After All-Star Break
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (oblique) will not return until after the All-Star Break. The Orioles placed their top catcher on the injured list on Saturday with a left oblique strain. However, his injury appears to be rather significant as he will remain sidelined throughout most of July. Before his injury, Rutschman was beginning to find his footing at the plate. Over his last 16 contests, the former top prospect has posted a strong .309/.381/.509 slash line with two doubles, three home runs, and an 8:7 K:BB. However, during his first two months, Rutschman carried an underwhelming .203/.300/.332 line. While he remains out of action, fantasy managers should expect veteran Gary Sanchez to see most of the opportunities behind the dish.

Sat Jun 2113:11Adley Rutschman Placed on 10-Day Injured List
The Baltimore Orioles have placed catcher Adley Rutschman (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. In a corresponding move, the Orioles promoted 27-year-old backstop Maverick Handley from Triple-A Norfolk. Rutschman was held out of action on Friday and was not slated to be in Saturday's starting lineup as well due to this injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as it is unclear when the catcher sustained this injury. Since June 3, the 27-year-old has begun to find his footing in the batter's box, posting a .309/.381/.509 slash line with two doubles, three home runs, five RBI, and an 8:7 K:BB. However, prior to this surge, Rutschman held a .203 AVG with a .632 OPS. While he remains sidelined, Gary Sanchez should handle the majority of the catching duties.

Sat Jun 2112:05Adley Rutschman Undergoes MRI Exam
Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (abdomen) had an MRI exam on Saturday morning, and the team will see if he needs a trip to the injured list, according to interim manager Tony Mansolino. With Rutschman banged up, Maverick Handley is on the team's taxi squad. Mansolino said the team hasn't discussed catching prospect Samuel Basallo as a potential option if Rutschman misses additional time. Rutschman is out of the starting lineup in the Bronx on Sunday against the division-rival New York Yankees and could miss additional time after being scratched from Friday's series opener with abdominal tightness. Gary Sanchez is behind the plate on Saturday and is hitting seventh versus Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt. Basallo is considered Baltimore's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and the No. 2 catching prospect in all of baseball.

Sat Jun 2109:58Adley Rutschman Dealing with Abdominal Tightness
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman was scratched from the team's lineup on Friday against the Yankees due to what's being described as abdominal tightness. Interim manager Tony Mansolino stated that the issue "flared up" during batting practice, and that Rutschman will be examined with more information to come on Saturday. For now, consider the 27-year-old day-to-day. If it is anything more than a minor injury, it would be very unfortunate timing, as after a poor start to the season, the switch-hitter had begun to turn things around in June. The 6-foot-2 slugger was hitting .309 with five extra-base hits (two doubles, three home runs) and a 7:8 BB:K through 15 games this month. The hot stretch had only pulled his season-long slash line to .227/.319/.372.

Wed Jun 1819:11Adley Rutschman Out of Lineup Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is out of the lineup for the club's tilt with the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Gary Sanchez will take over behind the plate and bat sixth against right-hander Taj Bradley. Rutschman will presumably return to the lineup Thursday. He has been swinging a hot bat in June, having gone 17-for-50 (.340) with three home runs, five RBI, and nine runs scored.

Tue Jun 1707:43Adley Rutschman Homers in Orioles Defeat
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman homered in the fourth inning off Rays starter Ryan Pepiot, but that was all the offense the Birds could get going in their 7-1 loss to Tampa on Monday. Rutschman finished the game 1-for-4 with the homer, which was his eighth of the season. The 27-year-old backstop is still hitting only .233 on the season, but he has shown signs of coming around since the calendar flipped to June. In his 12 games this month, he is hitting .356 (16-for-45) with two doubles, three homers, and a .437 wOBA. His hard-hit rate and barrel rate are also trending up, so he could be set to continue to heat up headed into the summer after his very slow start to the season.

Sun Jun 1512:10Adley Rutschman Sitting Against Angels
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Angels at Camden Yards. Gary Sanchez is behind the plate to catch right-hander Scott Blewett and will hit fifth against Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. It will be Rutschman's first day off since June 1. The 27-year-old switch-hitting backstop has had a good month of June so far after a slow start to the 2025 season, going 15-for-41 (.366) with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored in 11 games. Although six of his seven homers on the year have come against right-handers, Rutschman has gone just 34-for-157 (.217) against them. His batted-ball metrics show that more positive regression should be on the way. Sanchez came off the injured list on Saturday and promptly homered in Saturday's win. He's hit .286 in seven career at-bats against Kikuchi.

Thu Jun 523:51Adley Rutschman Goes Yard in Three-Hit Performance
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman hit a key home run to help the O's to a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. With the Orioles trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Rutschman took Seattle starter Bryan Woo deep to right for a two-run, game-tying homer. Rutschman added a pair of singles to finish 3-for-4 and collect his second three-hit game of June. He has also homered in back-to-back games, raising his line to .225/.314/.375 with seven dingers and 18 RBI in 226 plate appearances. The switch-hitter is miles off the 80-RBI pace he set in the previous two seasons, though he could approach or reach the 20-HR mark for the third consecutive year. He'll face Athletics lefty JP Sears on Friday. Their meetings have worked out well for Rutschman, who's 4-for-10 with two HRs against Sears.

Sun Jun 112:24Adley Rutschman Absent on Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Chicago White Sox at Camden Yards. Maverick Handley is doing the catching for right-hander Charlie Morton and is in the nine-hole versus White Sox right-hander Adrian Houser. Rutschman has really struggled at the plate in 2025 and finished the month of May hitting just .182 (16-for-88) with a homer, five doubles, a triple, six RBI, eight runs scored and 19 strikeouts in 25 games played. It's not a big surprise that with the 27-year-old switch-hitting backstop struggling, the Orioles have also been a bad team so far in 2025. His fantasy managers will be hoping things turn in the month of June. Handley has gone 2-for-28 (.071) with three RBI, a walk and 13 strikeouts in his first 11 MLB games. DFS gamers should avoid him on Sunday.

Wed May 2816:06Adley Rutschman Back in Action on Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (head) is back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Miles Mikolas, serving as the designated hitter and batting out of the two-hole. Rutschman took a foul tip off his mask on Sunday and was removed as a precaution before sitting out the first two games of the series against St. Louis on Monday and Tuesday. Maverick Handley will make another start behind the dish on Wednesday and hit eighth. Rutschman will look to get going at the plate in his return after starting the year with just a .211/.310/.349 slash line in his 175 at-bats. He's been even worse in May, going 15-for-76 (.197) with a homer, five doubles, a triple, six RBI, eight runs scored, eight walks and 14 strikeouts in 22 games played. Rutschman has never faced Mikolas in his career.

Tue May 2716:13Adley Rutschman Missing Another Game
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (head) is being held out again for Tuesday's contest versus the visiting St. Louis Cardinals at Camden Yards. Chadwick Tromp will catch right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano and will hit ninth against Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante. Rutschman will miss his second straight game on Tuesday after taking a foul tip off his mask on Sunday and being pulled for precautionary reasons. It's unclear if the 27-year-old backstop is in the league's concussion protocol, but interim manager Tony Mansolino said he is scheduled to take batting practice on Tuesday, so it's possible he could be back in the starting lineup as soon as Wednesday. Consider Rutschman to be day-to-day for now. Tromp will be making his debut with the O's on Tuesday after going 0-for-5 at the plate with the Braves earlier this year. Avoid him as a sleeper in DFS.

Mon May 2614:48Adley Rutschman Not Playing on Monday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (head) is not in the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals at Camden Yards. Maverick Handley is catching right-hander Charlie Morton and is batting ninth against Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Rutschman took a foul tip off his mask on Sunday and was removed for precautionary reasons. The 27-year-old backstop will also sit out to begin the week, and it's unclear if he's in the league's concussion protocol. Even though the O's said Rutschman's exit was precautionary, there's a chance he'll need to go on the seven-day concussion injured list if he doesn't improve in the next couple of days. This will be Handley's 10th major-league game on Monday, and he has just one hit in his first 26 big-league plate appearances with two RBI, one walk and 10 strikeouts.

Sun May 2521:14Adley Rutschman Makes Precautionary Exit With Head Injury
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (head) was hit in the mask by a foul tip in the third inning of Sunday's game and was replaced from the lineup one inning later. However, Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said the move was a precautionary one, reports Jake Rill of MLB.com. The catcher will be monitored over the next 24 hours, and it's unknown if he is officially in concussion protocol. Expect more updates on his condition tomorrow, but he may not be ready for Monday's afternoon contest against St. Louis.

Thu May 2200:14Adley Rutschman Snaps Long Home Run Drought
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman delivered a great performance in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Rutschman drilled a three-run home run in the 11th inning off Brewers left-hander Tyler Alexander to help the O's snap their eight-game losing skid. It was the second hit of the game for Rutschman, who chipped in a double earlier in the contest and finished 2-for-6. Rutschman ended a long drought of his own with the homer, his first since April 20, and knocked in his first run since May 11. Mainly due to his 13-for-65 offensive performance in May, the 27-year-old has stumbled to a disappointing .213/.299/.360 line with five homers in 184 plate appearances this season. However, his xBA (.270), xSLG (.474), and xwOBA (.358) do provide reasons for optimism. Despite his struggles in May, fantasy managers should continue to roll with Rutschman in all leagues.

Mon May 1918:17Adley Rutschman Getting a Breather on Monday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is retreating to the bench for Monday's series opener against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers. Maverick Handley will do the catching for right-hander Dean Kremer and will bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester. Like most of the Orioles players, Rutschman has been a massive disappointment in fantasy so far in 2025. The 27-year-old switch-hitting backstop is batting just .209 (32-for-153) with four home runs, 11 RBI and 18 runs scored. He's been even worse in May, going 10-for-54 (.185) with four doubles, a triple, two RBI, four runs, three walks and nine strikeouts in 15 games. Rutschman hasn't homered since April 20. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere at the catcher position in DFS than Handley, who has gone 1-for-14 with two RBI as a backup catcher in Baltimore this year.

Thu May 812:04Adley Rutschman, Cedric Mullins Out On Thursday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and outfielder Cedric Mullins are both taking the day off in Thursday's series finale against the hosting Minnesota Twins. Maverick Handley will be the catcher and hit ninth, while Ramon Laureano will patrol center field and hit fifth against Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. Rutschman will take the day off after starting each of the last eight games for the O's. Like most of the team's bats this year, the switch-hitting backstop has been cold, hitting .212 (25-for-118) with four homers, 10 RBI and 15 runs on the year. Mullins will sit out for the first time since April 27. The 30-year-old has been one of the O's most productive offensive players with seven homers, 21 RBI and five steals in 33 games in 2025. Handley has never faced Ober, while Laureano is hitless against him in just two career at-bats.

Mon Apr 2818:03Adley Rutschman Back In Baltimore's Lineup On Monday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (hand) is doing the catching for right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano on Monday and is hitting third against the division-rival New York Yankees and right-hander Will Warren at Camden Yards. Rutschman did not play on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers due to a sore right hand that stemmed from when he blocked all ball in the dirt on Saturday. It wasn't a serious concern, though, and the 27-year-old backstop will end up missing just one game. Rutschman has been a disappointment for fantasy manager early on in the season, hitting just .209 (19-for-91) with four home runs, eight RBI and 12 runs scored. He's been especially bad in the last 11 games, going 5-for-37 (.135) with a homer, two RBI, seven walks and 10 strikeouts. We're expecting the former No. 1 overall pick to turn things around sooner than later.

Sun Apr 2713:51Adley Rutschman Out With Hand Injury
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (hand) will not be in the team's lineup on Sunday when they line up against the Detroit Tigers on the road. The switch-hitting backstop was apparently hit in the hand on Saturday during Baltimore's second game of the doubleheader, though he was not pulled from the contest. Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports that he'll be available off the bench for the series finale. Rutschman has been struggling at the dish over the last few weeks, tallying just five hits (one home run) over his previous 37 at-bats (.135). Per statcast, the former first-round pick is due for some positive regression, as his xBA of .276 is quite a ways off his actual .209. Gary Sanchez is behind the plate and batting fifth against Detroit to close out the series.

Sat Apr 2612:54Adley Rutschman, Ryan Mountcastle Not In Game 1 Lineup
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle will take a seat in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers with Casey Mize on the mound. Both Orioles hitters have been struggling lately; however, the decision by manager Brandon Hyde not to start them in Game 1 is due to the nature of the doubleheader, so fantasy managers should not look too much into it. In the meantime, Gary Sanchez will start behind the plate and bat eighth in place of Rutschman. Ryan O'Hearn will start at first base because of Mountcastle, moving Jordan Westburg into the designated hitter spot while Ramon Urias starts at third base.
