Tue Jun 1717:18Jonathan India Returns to Royals Lineup
Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (shoulder) is back at second base and is hitting leadoff for the Royals in Tuesday's game at Globe Life Field against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Jack Leiter. India is returning to action in Arlington after suffering a left-shoulder subluxation last Friday against the Athletics that kept him out of the final two games of the series over the weekend. The 28-year-old is feeling better after a scheduled day off for travel on Monday. He hasn't really moved the needle in fantasy in his first year in Kansas City, though, hitting .248/.331/.335 with a .666 OPS, three home runs, 18 RBI and 27 runs scored in 242 at-bats. India does have a .277 xBA, though, so positive regression should be coming his way. However, he's currently in the 24th percentile in hard-hit rate and 41st percentile in maximum exit velocity.

Sat Jun 1414:13Jonathan India Not in Lineup Saturday
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) is not in the lineup Saturday for the club's meeting with the Athletics. Nick Loftin will man the keystone in India's place and bat sixth. India exited the Royals' 6-4 loss to the Athletics in the seventh inning Friday after suffering a shoulder subluxation diving for a ball. The injury doesn't seem severe, but India will get Saturday off as he recovers. The former Red, 28, is hitting .249/.332/.336 with three home runs and 18 RBI over 274 plate appearances in his first season as a Royal.

Fri Jun 1322:44Jonathan India Leaves With Apparent Shoulder Injury
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (shoulder) was looked at by a trainer after diving for a ball behind second base on Friday against the visiting Athletics. India initially stayed in the game but was holding his shoulder. MLB.com's Anne Rogers reports that India exited the game in the seventh inning. Nick Loftin moved from left field to second, with Drew Waters entering the game in left field. Before departing, India went 0-for-3 out of the leadoff spot for the Royals. The injury didn't look great for the 28-year-old, so it would be a surprise if he's back in action for Game 2 of the series at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday. If India misses extended time with his shoulder injury, Loftin would be the primary replacement at the keystone in KC. In his first year with the Royals, India hasn't been much of a fantasy asset, as he entered Friday's game with a .252 average, just three homers, 18 RBI and 27 runs.

Mon May 2613:26Jonathan India, Kyle Isbel Back in Action on Monday
Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (illness) and outfielder Kyle Isbel (illness) are both feeling better and back in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Nick Martinez. India is serving as the designated hitter and is batting out of the leadoff spot, while Isbel is manning center field and hitting ninth. Both India and Isbel were under the weather and were held out of Sunday's game, but they are back in there a day later. India has done little for fantasy managers in his first year in KC so far, hitting .226 (40-for-177) with a homer, 12 RBI and 19 runs scored. He's hitless in his only two career at-bats against Martinez. Isbel, meanwhile, has been more reliable with a .276 average (34-for-123), but his counting stats leave a lot to be desired, and he'll have minimal DFS upside in the nine-hole.

Mon May 1918:28Jonathan India Back as the DH on Monday
Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (knee) is back in the starting nine for Monday's series opener in the Bay Area against the hosting San Francisco Giants and left-hander Robbie Ray, serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff for KC. India will be back in action to begin the week after he was scratched from Sunday's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals with soreness in his knee. It obviously wasn't a very serious injury, as he's back in there a day later. The 28-year-old former fifth overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds out of Florida has contributed very little for fantasy managers in his first year with the Royals to this point, slashing a weak .238/.330/.311 with only one homer, 12 RBI and 17 runs scored in 164 at-bats. India has gone hitless in just two career at-bats against Ray, but he's better in May, hitting .274 (17-for-62) with his only homer, four doubles and seven RBI in 15 games.

Sun May 1812:52Jonathan India Scratched with Knee Soreness
Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (knee) was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to knee soreness. Jaylon T. Thompson of The KC Star noted that India is currently considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next game on Monday evening against the San Francisco Giants. Over his last nine games, India has been performing quite well, posting a .270/.325/.351 slash line with three doubles, five RBI, with a 3:2 K:BB. This afternoon, Michael Massey will cover the keystone for India instead. Through his first 43 games in Kansas City, India holds a modest .238/.330/.311 line, but his recent production suggests he is beginning to turn the corner on his slow start. If he were to miss more time, Massey should have close to an everyday role in the starting nine at second base, and Drew Waters should see more time in left field.

Tue Apr 1516:07Jonathan India Not Playing On Tuesday
Kansas City Royals infielder Jonathan India will not be in the starting nine when the Royals continue a series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday evening. India was held out of the starting lineup on Sunday due to a quadriceps injury but was able to return on Monday. However, India has returned to the bench. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case the 28-year-old suffered a setback. As a result, Cavan Biggio will get the nod at the hot corner and bat in the nine-hole. Through his first 16 games in Kansas City, India has seen time at both third base and the outfield. He has posted a .198/.328/.250 line with stellar 14.9 percent walk rate and an 11.9 percent strikeout rate. He remains a strong option in points leagues given his low strikeout rate and ability to draw walks.

Mon Apr 1417:22Jonathan India Back In Action Against Yankees
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (quadriceps) is back in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the New York Yankees and veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco in the Bronx, serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. Right-quad tightness kept India out of the series finale on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians, but he's back in there a day later. The Royals have been using the 28-year-old in both left field and at second base early on this year, but he'll serve as the DH for this one. India has only five career at-bats against Carrasco, hitting a solo home run against him. In his first 15 games with the Royals this year, India has gone 11-for-53 (.208) with no homers, three doubles, three RBI, five runs scored, nine walks and eight strikeouts. He hasn't torn the cover off the ball early on, but India will be an attractive DFS play against Carrasco.

Sun Apr 1312:04Jonathan India Not In Sunday's Lineup
Kansas City Royals infielder Jonathan India (quadriceps) is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. India was pulled in the sixth inning of the team's loss to Cleveland with right-quad tightness, so it's not a huge surprise that he's not in there. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if India is back in the lineup for Monday's series opener in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. The 28-year-old isn't too concerned about the injury and is hoping to be available off the bench on Sunday, so it sounds like something that shouldn't land him on the injured list. With India out on Sunday, Maikel Garcia is starting at third base and is batting leadoff against Guardians right-hander Ben Lively. Garcia is worth a look as a DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot. He has two hits and an RBI in four career at-bats against Lively.

Sat Apr 1221:15Jonathan India Removed Early On Saturday
Kansas City Royals infielder Jonathan India (quad) was forced to exit early during Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. India was pulled out of the contest in the sixth inning due to right quad tightness. It seems that he was removed for precautionary reasons, but the Royals are likely to do additional testing to determine the severity of the issue. India has been off to a slow start with his new team. He's hitting .208 with three RBI in 15 games. The Royals would likely use a combo of Maikel Garcia, Cavan Biggio, and Tyler Tolbert if India is forced to miss time.

Mon Mar 3112:13Jonathan India Back In At The Hot Corner
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (head) is back in the team's lineup on Monday at third base, batting leadoff against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old's status for Monday was unclear after a 98-MPH Emmanuel Clase fastball hit him in the head on Sunday night. However, it appears he's avoided a severe injury and will occupy the hot corner to start a three-game series against the Brewers on the road. India has done well as a table-setter for the Royals thus far, compiling a .429 OBP across 11 at-bats (three hits). He'll continue to be a viable source of runs as long as he's batting at the top of Kansas City's order.

Sun Mar 3021:12Jonathan India Hit In Head By Pitch
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (head) was struck in the head by a pitch in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against the Guardians. The initial belief is that the injury is non-concussive, but he will be evaluated further in the coming days, reports Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Thankfully, it appears that India has avoided a serious injury. He's done his job so far as the Royals' leadoff hitter through the first three games, posting a .429 OBP. He figures to be a useful middle infield option for fantasy once he returns to the field.

Wed Mar 1207:55Jonathan India Expected To Be Leadoff Hitter, Could Play Multiple Positions
Kansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India is expected to be the leadoff hitter to open the season. India has been productive in that spot during camp and will likely continue in this role. In addition, Anne Rogers of MLB.com noted that while India is expected to play every day, he will likely do so at multiple positions. Throughout camp, the Royals have provided India with opportunities in the outfield and he has seen previous work at third base in the minor leagues. If he were to shift to several positions, this could open the door for more opportunities for No. 2 second baseman Michael Massey. Last season, India posted a .248/.357/.392 slash line with 15 home runs and 13 stolen bases. He drew walks at an elite 12.6 percent rate. India carries great value in drafts as he should provide a high total of runs batting in front of Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez, and Vinnie Pasquantino.

Fri Feb 2114:08Jonathan India Starting In Left Field In Spring Opener
Kansas City Royals infielder Jonathan India will hit leadoff and start in left field in the team's Cactus League opener on Friday against the Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium. The Royals acquired India from the Cincinnati Reds in the offseason in exchange for right-hander Brady Singer. The 28-year-old has never played a position other than the keystone in the majors, but KC made the trade for him with a plan in mind for him to become more of a super-utility man. If India sees playing time in the outfield during the regular season, it would open up a spot at second for Michael Massey. India played in a career-high 151 games in his final season in Cincy and is a decent power/speed threat, but his move from hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark to Kauffman Stadium is definitely a downgrade. He could eventually gain 2B eligibility, but RotoBaller has India ranked as the No. 19 fantasy second baseman.

Sat Feb 115:37Jonathan India Will See Starts In The Outfield During Spring Training
According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, infielder Jonathan India will receive starts in the outfield during spring training. The 28-year-old said that he should also see opportunities at the hot corner. Even though India has never played in the outfield, he expressed, "I'm athletic, and I know I can do it. I'm going to get some work in, see how it goes." Throughout his major league career, India has only seen starts at the keystone. Last season, India posted a .248/.357/.392 line with 15 home runs and 13 stolen bases. He generated an impressive .352 xwOBA and a 12.6 percent walk rate, which placed him in the 87th and 97th percentile, respectively. Currently, Maikel Garcia is slated to cover third base, while MJ Melendez is slated to cover left field. India could see his fantasy value increase if he gains more positional eligibility during the 2025 season.

Fri Nov 22 202419:54Jonathan India Traded To Kansas City
The Cincinnati Reds are trading second baseman Jonathan India to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Brady Singer, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. India has spent the first four seasons of his major league career with the Reds and held a cumulative .253/.352/.412 slash line with 63 home runs. Last summer, India posted a .248/.357/.392 line with 15 home runs and 13 swiped bags. Under the hood, India boasted a stellar 12.6% walk rate and an above-average .352 xwOBA. Fantasy managers should expect the 27-year-old to operate as the starting second baseman in Kansas City with the upside to bat toward the top of the lineup. Batting in front of Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, and Salvador Perez should present India with solid scoring upside.

Mon Nov 18 202414:41Reds, Royals Discussing Jonathan India, Brady Singer
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India is one of several hitters that the Kansas City Royals are targeting in a trade, according to sources briefed on the team's talks. On the flip side, right-hander Brady Singer is drawing interest from the Reds and other clubs that are looking to bolster their starting rotations. India and Singer were both first-round picks out of Florida back in 2018. A trade is not imminent, though, and the Royals are also discussing the idea of trading left-hander Kris Bubic or righty Alec Marsh for a young hitter. The 28-year-old Singer is more attractive because he's coming off a career season and is under team control for two more years. Both India and Singer will be eligible for salary arbitration a final time in 2026. Landing India would solve KC's second base woes after they tried five different players at the keystone in 2024.

Thu Oct 10 202422:32Jonathan India Has "Clean-Up" Surgery On His Ankle
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (ankle) had surgery to "clean up" his ankle, according to president of baseball operations Nick Krall. India will have a normal offseason and is expected to be ready for spring training. The 27-year-old ended up playing second base all year in 2024 with Matt McLain dealing with multiple injuries. Second base is still the only defensive position India has played in the majors after starting 132 games there. However, first base and the outfield could be in play for India in 2025, as well as third base, with McLain returning to play the keystone. Playing time could be an issue for India if McLain can stay healthy next season. In a career-high 151 games in 2024, India slashed .248/.357/.392 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 84 runs scored as an everyday player over 637 plate appearances.

Fri Sep 27 202412:15Jonathan India Playing Against Cubs
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (head) is back at second base and atop the batting order as the leadoff hitter for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Chicago Cubs and right-hander Jameson Taillon at Wrigley Field. India was hit in the head by a pitch from Cleveland Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee on Tuesday and entered the league's concussion protocol. The 27-year-old only missed Wednesday's contest with the Reds having Thursday off. He'll be back in there for the final three games of the regular season this weekend. India has two hits with an RBI in four career at-bats against Taillon but enters Friday's contest on a cold streak of late, going 6-for-28 (.214) with a homer, triple, two RBI and three strikeouts in nine games since Sept. 15. The former National League Rookie of the Year in 2021 will be looking to finish off his 2024 campaign strong.

Wed Sep 25 202423:26Jonathan India Clears Concussion Protocol
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India cleared concussion protocol after being hit in the head with a pitch in Tuesday's game against the Guardians. Although India did not start Wednesday's game versus Cleveland, the 27-year-old did come on as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and later stayed in the game to play second base. The Reds are idle Thursday so look for the former N.L. Rookie of the Year to be back in the lineup for Friday's road game to take on the Cubs. It looked like India had finally found his stroke in June, slashing .380/.454/.587 during the month, but has limped to a .214/.327/.377 line since the beginning of July and owns a .246-15-58-83-13 stat line for the season.
