Mon Jun 3010:34Dennis Santana Serving Three-Game Suspension
Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Dennis Santana began serving a three-game suspension on Sunday. Major League Baseball issued the right-hander a four-game ban for "aggressive conduct toward a fan" in Detroit on June 20. However, the league reduced the punishment by a game after Santana's appeal. The 31-year-old will be available out of the Pirates' bullpen beginning Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Santana has been a rare bright spot for the last-place Pirates this season, having pitched to a 1.50 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP, 28:6 K:BB, nine holds, and five saves in 36 innings.

Fri Jun 2021:40Dennis Santana Handed Four-Game Suspension
Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Dennis Santana has been suspended four games for his action during the second game of the doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Santana gets slapped with this suspension for allegedly attempting to jump up and hit a fan above the bullpen wall. The suspension was supposed to start on Friday, but Santana has decided to appeal it. That being said, Santana will remain active out of the bullpen until the league makes their decision. Santana has been a stud out of the bullpen with a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 25/5 K/BB ratio across 31.1 innings of work this season.

Wed May 2116:21Dennis Santana Records Fifth Save of the Season
Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed reliever Dennis Santana closed the door on the division-rival Cincinnati Reds in the 3-1 win at PNC Park on Wednesday for his fifth save of the season. Santana threw a scoreless inning to pick up his 10th hold of the year in Tuesday's win against the Reds while David Bednar picked up the save, but Pittsburgh gave Santana the nod in the save situation on Wednesday in the series finale. The 29-year-old didn't disappoint, throwing a scoreless inning with no walks and two strikeouts. Bednar had thrown in back-to-back days on Monday and Tuesday, but the closing situation in Pittsburgh appears to be a two-way committee between Bednar and Santana. It will be frustrating for fantasy purposes on a team that doesn't see many save situations, but Santana will remain valuable in holds leagues. Santana will be a prime trade candidate as the deadline approaches this summer.

Sun May 413:32Dennis Santana Activated From Bereavement List
Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana has been activated from the bereavement list prior to Sunday's contest against the San Diego Padres. In a corresponding move, the Pirates have optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle Nicolas to Triple-A Indianapolis. Through his first 12 1/3 innings of the season, Santana has been a reliable high-leverage option out of the bullpen, holding a stellar 1.46 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. Across this stint, Santana has struck out just seven batters but has tallied three saves. While Santana was sidelined, David Bednar returned to the closer role, but given Bednar's early-season struggles, Santana could still be in the mix to see the majority of save situations. However, given the potential for a timeshare, he should only be started in deeper 12+ team formats.

Wed Apr 3023:27Dennis Santana On The Bereavement List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed right-hander Dennis Santana on the bereavement list on Tuesday, according to manager Derek Shelton. Right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton took Santana's spot on the active MLB roster. Santana will be away from the team for a few days but could be back and available to work in relief for Friday's series opener at PNC Park against the visiting San Diego Padres. While Santana is away from the Bucs for a few days, right-hander David Bednar should see any save chances that arise. Santana has been sharp so far in 2025 in his 13 relief appearances for the Pirates, allowing only three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking three and striking out seven with three saves in 12 1/3 innings pitched. He should be back with the club at some point this weekend.

Fri Apr 1809:13Dennis Santana Locks Down Second Save
Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Dennis Santana earned his second save of the season on Thursday afternoon during their victory over the Washington Nationals. Santana entered the game in the ninth inning and only needed to record two outs as Ryan Borucki started the inning. Santana retired both batters he faced. First, he got outfielder Dylan Crews to hit a ground out, and then proceeded to strike out infielder Luis Garcia Jr. With David Bednar being optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, Santana has emerged as the favorite for save opportunities in the Steel City. Through his first nine innings of the season, the 29-year-old right-hander has held a 2.00 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. He has struck out five batters but has generated a high 5.54 xERA, which suggests he could face some regression. Despite his underwhelming metrics, he is a viable target for saves in deeper formats.

Wed Apr 218:50Dennis Santana Picks Up First Save Of The Year
Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed reliever Dennis Santana was handed the first save chance for the Pirates on Wednesday against the hosting Tampa Bay Rays since they demoted former closer David Bednar to the minors this week, and Santana capitalized by closing the door to earn his first save of 2025. The 28-year-old didn't allow a hit while walking one in his fourth appearance of the season. Colin Holderman pitched the eighth frame in the 4-2 victory and allowed a run. While things could change quickly in the back end of Pittsburgh's bullpen, Santana has to be considered the favorite for most of the team's save opportunities moving forward, so fantasy managers scrounging for saves in deeper leagues should take notice. After struggling to begin last year with the Yankees, Santana altered his approach and showed much better control in Pittsburgh.

Fri Mar 17 202314:23Mets Claim Dennis Santana Off Waivers From Twins
The New York Mets claimed right-handed reliever Dennis Santana off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Friday. It's the second time Santana has been claimed off waivers before the 2023 season, as the Twins previously snagged him from the Atlanta Braves not long ago. The 26-year-old was with the Texas Rangers in 2022, posting a 5.22 ERA (3.35 FIP), 1.33 WHIP, one save, 28 walks and a career-high 54 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings over 63 appearances (one start). He will provide some more relief depth for the Mets after losing closer Edwin Diaz (knee) for what is likely to be the entire 2023 season. Santana can be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Thu Aug 4 202222:18Dennis Santana Placed On The Injured List
Texas Rangers pitcher Dennis Santana (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left ankle sprain Thursday. The move is retroactive to August 3, and he will miss at least the next two weeks. He owns a 5.09 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 33:18 K: BB over 40 2/3 innings in 2022. The Rangers bullpen takes another hit as both Joe Barlow (finger) and Santana are now on the injured list. Cole Ragans was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old owned posted a 3.32 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP in 43.1 innings over eight Triple-A starts. Ragans is a speculative add in deep-league formats.

Thu Jun 17 202114:17Rangers acquire RHP Santana from Dodgers for minor leaguer
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers acquired right-hander Dennis Santana from the Dodgers in a trade Thursday, sending minor league lefty Kevin Bautista to Los Angeles. Santana had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Saturday. He had a 6.00 ERA (10 earned runs in 15 innings) in a career-high 16 relief appearances this season. The right-hander made 32 appearances over the past four seasons with Los Angeles. South Korean lefty Hyeon-Jong Yang was designated for assignment by Texas to make room on its 40-man roster for Santana. The Rangers have seven days to trade, release or outright Yang to the minor leagues. Yang went 0-3 with a 5.59 ERA in eight games (four starts) with the Rangers before getting was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock this week. Bautista has been with the Rangers’ group in Surprise, Arizona, for extended spring training games, but he has not seen action in an official game since 2019. He has a 3-1 record with a 3.70 ERA (23 ER/56.0 IP) over 32 relief appearances combined in the Dominican Summer League (2018-19) and Arizona League (2019). ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Sat Jun 12 202121:46Max Muncy on Dodgers' injured list with right oblique strain
LOS ANGELES (AP) — First baseman Max Muncy is going on the Los Angeles Dodgers' injured list with a right oblique muscle strain. The Dodgers recalled outfielder Luke Raley on Saturday night to take the roster spot of Muncy, who left Friday's game in the second inning with the defending World Series champions' latest significant injury woe. Muncy hit his 14th homer of the season in the first inning of the series opener against the Texas Rangers, but was replaced by Albert Pujols shortly afterward. Muncy is batting .264 with 33 RBIs in 60 games this season for Los Angeles. Before his oblique injury, he had been struggling with an injured right ankle since getting hurt June 4 in Atlanta. Outfielder Cody Bellinger also left Friday's game with left hamstring tightness, and he wasn't in the Dodgers' starting lineup Saturday. Manager Dave Roberts is cautiously confident Bellinger's injury isn't serious. The Dodgers' latest round of injury problems has left the champs shuffling their roster. Earlier... [More]
Sat Apr 17 202104:48LEADING OFF: Mets eye clear weather at last, Cubs HBP woes
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ WELL RESTED Jacob deGrom and the Mets hope to finally play some baseball. New York has had four games in six days either postponed or suspended due to weather, including a snow out Friday night for the opener of their series at Colorado. The club has had seven postponements this season, including all three games of its opening series against Washington, which was called off due to the Nationals’ COVID-19 outbreak. Saturday’s forecast in Denver looks chilly but clear, making it likely deGrom (0-1, 0.64) will finally get back on the mound two days after he was initially supposed to take his turn. New York’s ace will start the opener of a doubleheader against Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-0, 3.60), and Mets lefty Joe Lucchesi (0-0, 0.00) will face Germán Márquez (0-1, 4.02) in the late game. BEAT-UP BEARS Willson Contreras and the Cubs are feeling understandably unsettled in the box. Chicago batters were plunked four times by Braves starter Kyle... [More]
Sat Apr 17 202103:48Seager homers in 12th, Dodgers top Padres 11-6 in 1st tussle
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Corey Seager hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer on Tim Hill’s first pitch of the 12th inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 11-6 Friday night in a tense, entertaining first matchup this season between NL West rivals who have visions of deep playoff runs. It took 4 hours, 57 minutes to decide this one, which ended early Saturday morning. The benches emptied after Dodgers reliever Dennis Santana hit Jorge Mateo with a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out in the 10th. Trent Grisham walked to load the bases, but Santana struck out Fernando Tatis Jr. to escape. The teams met for the first time since the Dodgers swept San Diego in their Division Series last year en route to winning the World Series. The Padres responded by beefing up their rotation, trading for Yu Darvish, Blake Snell and Joe Musgrove. Darvish and Snell are scheduled to pitch in the final two games of the three-game series. Seager homered with Mookie Betts on second base after... [More]
Sun Apr 4 202115:47Tony Gonsolin goes on Dodgers' IL with inflamed shoulder
DENVER (AP) — Right-hander Tony Gonsolin was put on the 10-day injured list Sunday by the Los Angeles Dodgers with right shoulder inflammation, a move retroactive to Thursday. Righty Dennis Santana was recalled from the alternate training site at Glendale, Arizona, to fill the roster spot. Gonsolin, 26, made the opening-day roster for the first time but has not pitched this season. He was 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA and 46 strikeouts in eight starts last year for the World Series champions. “That shoulder inflammation, it’s something that’s been kind of lingering for the last few days,” manager Dave Roberts said. “He went out there and played catch today, didn’t feel great so I think it’s more being cautious with Tony being a big part of our club.” Santana, 24, is 2-2 with a 6.66 ERA and 28 strikeouts in parts of four seasons with Los Angeles. He made his major league debut at Coors Field on June 1, 2018. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
