Fri Jul 4 | 09:55 | Keibert Ruiz Reinstated, Starting on Friday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (concussion) has been reinstated from the injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Ruiz has been out since June 24 due to a concussion. He's back in the mix on Friday, Ruiz is batting eighth and starting behind the plate versus right-hander Lucas Giolito. Ruiz has been struggling at the plate over the last few weeks. He's not an ideal fantasy option right now and is someone that can be avoided in most formats at the moment. In a corresponding move, catcher Drew Millas has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester. |

Fri Jun 27 | 21:14 | Keibert Ruiz Moved to 7-Day Injured List |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (concussion) has been shifted to the 7-day injured list on Friday. Ruiz was hit in the head by a foul ball during Monday's game. As a result, Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list. However, he'll be moved to the 7-day injured list after being diagnosed with a concussion. That means, Ruiz is now eligible to come off the IL on Tuesday. In the meantime, Riley Adams and Drew Millas will split up the time behind the plate. |

Tue Jun 24 | 19:46 | Nationals Place Keibert Ruiz on 10-Day Injured List With Head Contusion |
The Washington Nationals placed catcher Keibert Ruiz (head) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a head contusion and recalled catcher Drew Millas from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Ruiz was sent to the hospital on Monday night for a CT scan after he took a foul ball to the side of his head off the bat of James Wood in the victory against the San Diego Padres. He's going to miss time, but the good news is Ruiz is not in the league's concussion protocol. Still, it's an injury on top of an already disappointing season for Washington's primary catcher. The Venezuelan backstop goes on the shelf hitting .247/.278/.320 with a .598 OPS, only two home runs, 24 RBI and 19 runs scored in 247 at-bats. The good news is he should be able to return from the IL when eligible. Riley Adams will now become the Nats' primary catcher for at least the next 10 days. |

Tue Jun 24 | 09:34 | Keibert Ruiz Sent to the Hospital for a CT Scan |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (head) had to be sent to the hospital for a CT scan after he was struck in the head by a foul ball while he was in the dugout on Monday night. In the fourth inning, Josh Bell fouled a hard line drive into the Nats' dugout, which ricocheted off the back wall and struck Ruiz in the side of the head. Manager Davey Martinez said that Ruiz had a lump on the side of his head and that he was "a little bit concerned." Ruiz could end up on the 7-day concussion IL at least, and if that's the case, the Nats would likely recall Drew Millas from Triple-A to platoon with Riley Adams. Adams is hitting just .097 in his 22 games in the majors this season, but does have three home runs. Ruiz is hitting .247 with two homers and a .265 wOBA in his 66 games, but he may be forced to miss time after this flukey injury. |

Mon Jun 23 | 23:09 | Keibert Ruiz Leaves Monday's Game With Head Injury |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (head) was hit on the right side of his head on Josh Bell's foul ball into the dugout at Petco Park in Monday's series opener against the San Diego Padres and was removed from the game, according to MASN's Mark Zuckerman. Riley Adams replaced Ruiz behind the plate and would become Washington's primary catcher if Ruiz is goes into the league's concussion protocol and is placed on the seven-day concussion injured list. Ruiz went 0-for-1 in the game before getting hit in the head in the dugout. The 26-year-old Venezuelan switch-hitting backstop is merely a No. 2 catcher in two-catcher fantasy leagues, as he came into Monday's action hitting a modest .248/.279/.321 with a weak .600 OPS, only two long balls, 24 RBI and 19 runs scored in 246 at-bats this year. |

Mon Jun 16 | 16:24 | Keibert Ruiz, Josh Bell, Luis Garcia Jr. Sitting Against Southpaw |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz, designated hitter Josh Bell and second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. are all out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Colorado Rockies with a left-hander on the mound. Riley Adams is doing the catching and hitting seventh, James Wood is the DH and is batting second, and Amed Rosario is at the keystone and in the five-hole versus rookie lefty Carson Palmquist. Andres Chaparro is manning first base and batting cleanup. Ruiz actually has reverse splits against lefties in 2025 with a .298 average (14-for-47) with one of his two home runs, but he has been sitting more frequently of late against lefty pitchers. Even though there's a lefty on the mound, Wood is an intriguing DFS play against the rookie southpaw. He's hitting .272 (25-for-92) with five of his 17 homers against lefties on the year. |

Fri Jun 6 | 16:05 | Josh Bell, Keibert Ruiz, Luis Garcia Jr. All Sitting on Friday |
Washington Nationals first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell, catcher Keibert Ruiz and second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. are all sitting for Friday's game in D.C. against the visiting Texas Rangers. Outfielder Alex Call is serving as the designated hitter and is batting fifth, Riley Adams is doing the catching and hitting sixth, and Nasim Nunez is starting at the keystone and in the nine-hole of the batting order against Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin. Nathaniel Lowe is starting at first base and batting cleanup for the Nats. While Ruiz is a switch-hitter, both Bell and Garcia bat from the left side and will get the day off against the left-handed pitcher. Call, Adams and Nunez have never faced Corbin before in their careers. Call has hit over .300 in 48 plate appearances versus southpaws this year, but he's still searching for his first homer. |

Sun May 11 | 11:15 | Keibert Ruiz, Jacob Young Sitting On Sunday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz and outfielder Jacob Young are not in Sunday's lineup when the Nationals face the St. Louis Cardinals. Ruiz has started each of the previous three contests. Over his last 10 games, the backstop has been very productive at the plate, holding a .282/.317/.308 line with a 6:2 K:BB. Fantasy managers should expect Ruiz to return to the starting nine on Monday when they face the Atlanta Braves. Young has been in the starting lineup in each of the past 12 games. During this stretch, the 25-year-old has posted a modest .220/.273/.268 line. As a result, Riley Adams will be behind the dish, and Dylan Crews will shift to center field, which opens right field for Alex Call. The Nationals are worth a look in DFS facing Miles Mikolas, who enters this game holding a 4.76 ERA. |

Tue Apr 22 | 15:35 | Keibert Ruiz Hitting Cleanup For The Nationals On Tuesday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz is batting cleanup for the Nationals on Tuesday against the Orioles. The switch-hitter is off to a solid start for the Nats, hitting safely in 16 of 19 games thus far, slashing .306/.359/.417 with a .346 wOBA and 121 wRC+, putting himself within the top 10 fantasy players at the position to this point. The 26-year-old owns a 10.3 percent strikeout rate in 2025, even better than his strong career mark of 11.0 percent, so he's very adept at putting the bat on the ball. Hitting fourth should afford a better shot at RBIs on Tuesday, and going up against the Orioles' Dean Kremer, who has allowed 13 earned runs in three road starts thus far (14 1/3 IP, 8.16 ERA), should put him under consideration for use in DFS lineups. |

Thu Apr 17 | 12:12 | Keibert Ruiz, Josh Bell Sitting On Thursday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz and first baseman Josh Bell are out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Riley Adams is behind the dish and is batting eighth, while Nathaniel Lowe is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup for the Nats against Pirates left-hander Andrew Heaney. James Wood is the designated hitter and is batting second. Ruiz is getting his second day off of the season after starting strong with a .317 average (20-for-63) with two homers and 11 RBI. The 26-year-old should be back for Friday's series opener in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. Bell will get the day off against a lefty after going just 3-for-27 with a homer in the last seven games. Adams has gone hitless in just two career at-bats against Heaney, while Lowe has two hits in both of his at-bats against Heaney. |

Sat Apr 5 | 12:04 | Keibert Ruiz, Jacob Young Resting On Saturday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz and outfielder Jacob Young are both resting on Saturday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks at Nationals Park. Riley Adams will do the catching for left-hander Mitchell Parker and will bat ninth, while Alex Call will start in right field and bat sixth against D-backs left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Dylan Crews is sliding from right field to center. Ruiz entered Friday's lost to Arizona riding a six-game hitting streak to begin the year but had it snapped when he went 0-for-4 . The 26-year-old Venezuelan has gone 8-for-25 in the early going with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored. Young, meanwhile, has struggled with just one hit in 15 at-bats in his first six games of the year. Adams is hitless in just one career at-bat against E-Rod, while Call has never faced him in his career. |

Tue Aug 20 2024 | 16:08 | Keibert Ruiz Sitting Against Rockies |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz is getting a breather on Tuesday versus the Colorado Rockies at Nationals Park. Riley Adams will do the catching for rookie left-hander DJ Herz and will bat seventh for the Nats against Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber. The switch-hitting Ruiz has fared better from the left side of the plate against right-handers in 2024, as he's hit just .224 (19-for-85) with two of his 12 home runs on the season from the right side against lefties. He'll take a seat on Tuesday in the midst of a modest five-game hitting streak in which he's gone 6-for-22 (.273) with three home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Adams will be cheap in DFS lineups, but he won't bring fantasy managers much upside at all. The 28-year-old backstop is batting .230 (26-for-113) on the year with only two homers and eight RBI. |

Fri Aug 16 2024 | 09:22 | Keibert Ruiz Launches Two Home Runs On Thursday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz went 2-for-4 with two home runs on Thursday evening. Ruiz hit his first long ball in the fifth inning and then did so again in the seventh frame. The switch-hitting catcher extended his current hitting streak to three games and boasts a strong .295/.340/.545 line through August. The 26-year-old has struggled in the batter's box for most of the season but his recent surge could suggest he might be turning the corner. However, he still has been a viable asset in points leagues with his excellent 10.3% K rate. Ruiz remains a solid option as a second catcher in deeper formats and should continue to see the majority of starting opportunities in D.C. |

Thu Aug 1 2024 | 13:45 | Keibert Ruiz Leaves Wednesdayâs Game Early |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz (groin) left Wednesday's game early after being hit by a bounced ball in the groin. Riley Adams eventually replaced Ruiz later in the game. Andrew Golden of the Washington Post reported that Nationals skipper Dave Martinez is concerned about the severity of the injury. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Nationals lineup prior to Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The switch-hitting catcher has struggled in the batter's box this season with a .216/.248/.334 line but has held a stellar 11.2% K rate. Adams would get a majority of the starts behind the dish if Ruiz were to be sidelined for an extended period, but he should be faded in all DFS competitions this weekend as he currently sits with a modest .233 AVG. |

Sun Jul 28 2024 | 09:27 | Keibert Ruiz Homers Saturday, Drives In Three |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz homered and drove in three runs in Saturday's 14-3 rout of the Cardinals. It was his eighth home run of the season but his only hit of the game, going 1-for-6 at the plate, while the RBIs pushed his season total to 33. For a contact-hitter like Ruiz, it's perplexing to see him batting just .217 on the season, however, he's been better in July, hitting .261 with four of his eight home runs coming this month. The backstop's 87.8% contact rate, low 11.3% strikeout rate, and xBA of .268 could mean things should keep trending up for the switch-hitter. |

Sun Jul 7 2024 | 12:02 | Keibert Ruiz Getting The Day Off On Sunday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz will take the day off on Sunday versus the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Riley Adams will do the catching instead for rookie left-hander DJ Herz while batting eighth against Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson. Ruiz will take a seat after getting hits in four of his nine at-bats with a home run, a double, four RBI, and two runs scored in the first two games of the series against the Cardinals. He's now gone 8-for-22 (.364) with a homer, double, five RBI and three runs scored in five games so far in the month of July, and fantasy managers are hoping that Ruiz can finally start to heat up this year. The 25-year-old Venezuelan backstop hasn't done much for fantasy managers in 2024, slashing .218/.257/.319 with five home runs, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored in 229 at-bats to this point in the season. |

Sat Jul 6 2024 | 22:12 | Keibert Ruiz Homers, Knocks In Three Runs Saturday |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz hit a home run and had three RBI on Saturday afternoon in a 14-6 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. He had not homered since June 9th. Ruiz is off to a good start in July, hitting .364 with a home run, five RBI, and three runs scored. On the season, the veteran is hitting .218 with five home runs, 25 RBI, a stolen base, and 21 runs scored. Look for Ruiz to continue to play five games per week and handle the bulk of the catching duties for the Nationals the rest of the season. |

Wed May 22 2024 | 12:03 | Keibert Ruiz Getting Wednesday Off |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz is taking the day off during Wednesday's matinee contest for the series finale against the visiting Minnesota Twins. With Ruiz on the bench, Riley Adams will do the catching for right-hander Jake Irvin and bat eighth against Twins rookie right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson. Ruiz dealt with a pretty serious illness early this year that caused him to lose over 10 pounds, so perhaps that's why he's been such a disappointment so far in 2024. The 25-year-old switch-hitting Venezuelan backstop is slashing .160/.198/.236 with only two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in 106 at-bats. Adams has been slightly better, going 16-for-69 (.232) with two home runs and six RBI. The 27-year-old will be a low-upside sleeper in DFS at catcher. |

Tue May 14 2024 | 14:41 | Keibert Ruiz Not In The Lineup For Game 1 |
Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz isn't in the starting lineup on Tuesday for the first game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. Washington will be starting Riley Adams at catcher who will be batting seventh in replace of Ruiz. This season, Ruiz is slashing .145/.193/.410 with two home runs and four RBIs. In his last 15 games, Ruiz is slashing .102/.159/.153 with one run and one RBI as he has struggled to produce much offense this season. The 25-year-old is 28% owned in Yahoo fantasy leagues while is owned in 46% of ESPN's fantasy leagues. However, due to the lack of offense, Ruiz is producing right now, he isn't worth a fantasy look, especially with Adams stealing some starts from him. |

Thu Apr 25 2024 | 15:53 | Keibert Ruiz Back From The Injured List |
The Washington Nationals reinstated catcher Keibert Ruiz (illness) from the 10-day injured list on Thursday and optioned catcher Drew Millas to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move, according to president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo. The 25-year-old Ruiz will return to the Nats after missing 11 games with influenza and he'll be back behind the dish while hitting fifth against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Ruiz appeared in two minor-league rehab games with Double-A Harrisburg this week. Before going on the injured list, he was hitting just .194 with a home run and three RBI in eight games. Ruiz will return as Washington's primary catcher, but fantasy managers may want to keep him benched until he can get going. |
