Wed Aug 2014:48Ty Madden Not Expected to Pitch This Season
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Ty Madden (shoulder) is said to be completing a return-to-play throwing progression, however, the right-hander is not expected to return to the mound this season, even inclusive of any potential minor league rehab assignment, per manager A.J. Hinch. The 25-year-old strained his throwing shoulder in the spring and is now expected to miss the entire season. The 6-foot-3 hurler debuted with the Tigers in 2024, pitching to a 4.30 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and an 8.9 percentK-BB% in six appearances (one start, 23 innings pitched). He was unable to replicatethe strikeout stuff he maintained in the minors, owning a career 28.2 percent strikeout rate below the big leagues. The Tigers are looking for him to have a "productive offseason," so it sounds like he is in the team's plans for 2026, although it is unclear whether it willbe as a starteror a reliever.

Tue Apr 822:57Sawyer Gipson-Long, Ty Madden To Throw Bullpens On Wednesday
Detroit Tigers right-handers Sawyer Gipson-Long (hip, elbow) and Ty Madden (shoulder) are both scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Wednesday, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Gipson-Long is recovering from a left-hip labral repair and right-UCL reconstruction, while Madden is on the injured list due to a right-shoulder strain. Gipson-Long is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't expected to be an option for the Tigers at the major-league level until around the All-Star break. Madden, who is also on the 60-day IL, is recovering after straining his right rotator cuff in spring training but will not be eligible to make his 2025 season debut until late May. The Tigers might build Madden up as a starter as he continues along in his rehab and eventually goes on a minor-league rehab assignment, but there's no guarantee he'll have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's fully healthy.

Fri Apr 417:31Sawyer Gipson-Long, Ty Madden Scheduled For Bullpen Sessions
Detroit Tigers right-handers Sawyer Gipson-Long (hip, elbow) and Ty Madden (shoulder) are both scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Saturday. Gipson-Long is recovering from a left-hip labral repair and right-UCL reconstruction, while Madden is rehabbing from a right-shoulder strain. Meanwhile, right-hander Jose Urquidy (elbow) is playing catch out to 105 feet three times a week as he recovers from right-UCL reconstruction. Gipson-Long is on the 60-day injured list after having Tommy John surgery last April and hip surgery last July. Barring a setback, the 27-year-old won't be an option for the Tigers until around the All-Star break in mid-July. Madden, 25, suffered a right rotator-cuff strain in spring training and won't be able to return until at least the end of May while on the 60-day IL.

Sun Sep 8 202419:42Ty Madden Strikes Out Seven In Win
Detroit Tigers pitcher Ty Madden showed off his swing-and-miss stuff during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The rookie right-hander came in after opener Beau Brieske threw a scoreless inning. Madden looked sharp as he struck out seven batters while allowing only one run over five innings of work. The Tigers might not push Madden too hard in September, but he's expected to be a big part of their future. He holds a 2.57 ERA and 10/4 K/BB ratio over three appearances this season. He probably won't be worth adding in fantasy leagues this season, but is someone worth keeping an eye on heading into 2025.
