Mon Sep 116:06Jackson Merrill Back From Injured List
The San Diego Padres announced on Monday that they reinstated outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) from the 10-day injured list and also recalled right-hander Sean Reynolds from Triple-A El Paso. Merrill is back in the fold for the Friars, but he won't start in Monday's series opener against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. Ramon Laureano will get another start in center field, but Merrill should soon return to starting duties in center field, which will in turn move Laureano back to left and Gavin Sheets into more of a bench/DH role. Merrill is returning after missing the last two weeks with a sprained left ankle. After a breakout rookie year in 2024, the former first-rounder has dealt with various injuries in 2025 and is hitting .261/.317/.413 with a .729 OPS, only nine home runs, 51 RBI and 42 runs scored. Since the All-Star break, he' hit .255 (27-for-106) with only two homers and 19 RBI in 27 games.

Fri Aug 2920:12Jackson Merrill Could Return Next Week
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) is in Arizona getting live at-bats and could return for next week's home series against the Baltimore Orioles if all goes well, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Merrill will not return from the 10-day injured list when eligible on Saturday, but the 22-year-old's return may not be far off, barring a setback. He's attempting to return from a left-ankle sprain. The Padres could really use his bat back in their lineup down the stretch now that shortstop Xander Bogaerts could miss most of the final month of the regular season with a fractured foot. With Merrill out of late, it has afforded Gavin Sheets more playing time in left field with Ramon Laureano moving to center field. Merrill's power has been down since the All-Star break, as he's hitting .255 (27-for-106) with only two home runs in 27 games in the second half.

Sat Aug 2321:17Jackson Merrill Heads to 10-Day Injured List
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. This doesn't come as a surprise after Merrill was held out again on Saturday to mark his sixth absence in a row. The Padres have decided to place him on the shelf, retroactive August 20. The Padres are hopeful that Merrill will be ready to go by September. The absence of Merrill means Ramon Laureano should play everyday center field. Laureano has hit well enough to warrant rostering in 12-team formats if you need another bat.

Sat Aug 2318:29Jackson Merrill Missing Sixth Straight Game
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This marks the sixth game in a row that Merrill has missed due to a bruised left ankle. For now, Merrill is considered day-to-day, but it's a bit surprising he hasn't been placed on the injured list at this point. The Padres are likely going to need to make a move if Merrill isn't available within the next few games. In the meantime, Ramon Laureano will cover center field and bat seventh versus right-hander Tyler Glasnow on Saturday.

Fri Aug 2219:32Jackson Merrill Still Absent From Padres Lineup
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. Ramon Laureano is getting another start in center field and will bat seventh against Dodgers left-hander Blake Snell. Merrill suffered a left-ankle contusion in last Sunday's loss to the Dodgers and hasn't played since, missing five straight games. The 22-year-old's injury wasn't considered serious, but if he's unable to play this weekend, the Padres will certainly be considering putting him on the injured list. Merrill was an All-Star in his rookie season in 2024, but things have been tougher in 2025. He has only two home runs while hitting .255 (27-for-106) in 27 games since the All-Star break. Laureano has been hot since joining the Pads at the trade deadline but is hitting .111 in nine career at-bats against Snell.

Thu Aug 2114:19Jackson Merrill Missing Series Finale Against Giants
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) will sit out of Thursday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants at Petco Park. Ramon Laureano will get another start in center field and will bat seventh against Giants right-hander Justin Verlander. Merrill will end up missing the entire four-game series against the Gigantes due to a bone bruise in his left ankle that he suffered in last weekend's series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The hope is that the 22-year-old will be available this weekend for another crucial series against L.A., but if he isn't, a stint on the injured list could be coming. An extended absence for Merrill would mean more playing time for Gavin Sheets, who homered twice in Wednesday night's victory. Laureano has been money since joining the Friars at the trade deadline, hitting .324 (22-for-68) with four homers, 12 RBI and 12 runs in 18 games.

Wed Aug 2021:14Jackson Merrill Could Land on 10-Day Injured List
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) was out of the lineup for the third straight game on Wednesday as a result of a left-ankle strain. Merrill suffered the injury last Friday and has been out of commission since he left Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers early. While the Padres have avoided placing him on the 10-day injured list, manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that "there is some bone bruising, which can take a while to heal." With that in mind, Merrill's status for the Padres' series against the Dodgers this weekend "appears questionable," according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic. If that's the case, the team may have to put him on the IL. Should Merrill go on the shelf on Thursday, the Padres would be able to backdate it to Aug. 18. The club should have an update on his status before Thursday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants.

Wed Aug 2018:30Jackson Merrill Remains Out on Wednesday
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. This marks the third game in a row that Merrill has missed due to an ankle injury. He tweaked his left ankle over the weekend, but it doesn't sound like he'll require a trip to the injured list. In his absence, Ramon Laureano will take over in center field and bat fifth versus right-hander Landen Roupp. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on Merrill's status.

Tue Aug 1921:15Jackson Merrill Not in Tuesday's Lineup
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) is not in the lineup on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. Ramon Laureano will take over in center field and hit sixth versus Giants right-hander Kai-Wei Teng, while Gavin Sheets will play left and bat seventh. This is the second straight night off for Merrill, who rolled his left ankle in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday. He started the Padres' next two games against the Dodgers over the weekend, but he left early on Sunday and hasn't played since. While it doesn't appear likely that Merrill will require a stint on the 10-day injured list, fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday to see if he returns to the lineup.

Mon Aug 1819:12Jackson Merrill Starting on the Bench on Monday
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) is not in the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Francisco Giants at Petco Park. Bryce Johnson will make the start in center field and will bat ninth against Giants left-hander Robbie Ray. Merrill initially tweaked his left ankle coming out of the box in Friday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers before being pulled early in Sunday's series finale at Dodgers Stadium. It sounds like more of a day-to-day injury for the 22-year-old, but fantasy managers will want to check back on Tuesday to see if he's able to return for the second game of the series. Johnson should be avoided as a DFS sleeper against Ray. Merrill got off to a strong start earlier this year but has been very mediocre with limited power since the All-Star break, going 27-for-106 (.255) with two homres, 19 RBI and nine runs in 27 games.

Sun Aug 1721:13Jackson Merrill Nursing Sore Ankle
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) left Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers in the fourth inning due to a sore ankle, reports Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego. He twisted his left ankle while running out of the box during Saturday's game, and it ultimately didn't heal to a point where the 22-year-old could finish Sunday's contest. Right now the youngster should be considered day-to-day, as there's nothing yet that suggests a trip to the injured list would be necessary. Merrill is having a down year after breaking out as a rookie in 2024, slashing just .261/.317/.413 with nine home runs and one steal in 91 games.UPDATE: Merrill said he's hopeful to play in Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Francisco Giants.

Mon Jul 2116:16Jackson Merrill Back From Illness
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (illness) is starting in center field and is batting sixth on Monday in the series opener in Miami against the Marlins and right-hander Eury Perez. Merrill was under the weather on Sunday and was scratched from the starting lineup in the series finale against the Washington Nationals, but he's feeling much better a day later and will return to center field duties. The 22-year-old is one of the best young outfielders in the game, but he hasn't looked like the same player at the plate since returning in late June from a concussion. Since June 22, Merrill is hitting a weak .163 (13-for-80) with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI, 10 runs, 11 walks and 19 strikeouts in 22 games played. Fantasy managers will be hoping he can break out of his funk in South Beach on Monday against Perez, a pitcher he has never faced in his career.

Sun Jul 2013:30Jackson Merrill Out Sunday with Illness
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (illness) is out of the team's lineup Sunday against the Washington Nationals with an illness. Bryce Johnson will start in center field in Merrill's place and bat eighth in a meeting with Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Merrill has slumped badly at the plate for several weeks, as the 2024 All-Star is just 26-for-130 (.200) with two home runs, 11 RBI, and 35:12 K:BB since June 1. The 22-year-old is hitting .259/.325/.406 with seven homers, 32 RBI, 34 runs, and just one stolen base over 281 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should check back Monday to see if Merrill returns to the lineup against the Miami Marlins.

Sun Jun 2214:53Jackson Merrill Activated, Playing on Sunday
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (concussion) was activated off the 7-day injured list on Sunday. Merrill is back in action after missing a little over a week due to a concussion. When healthy, Merrill is a stud, but keeping him on the field has been a problem this season. Merrill is slashing .304/.349/.474 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 44 games this season. He'll bat second and cover center field versus right-hander Seth Lugo on Sunday. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Merrill activated and back in their lineups.

Sat Jun 2109:46Jackson Merrill Beginning to Play Catch
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (concussion) played catch on the field prior to Friday's matchup with the Royals. The 22-year-old was placed on the 7-day injured list on Sunday after getting hit in the head with a hard tag on a stolen base attempt. It's not clear if he'll be ready to return once eligible, but the Padres and fantasy managers alike will welcome him back with open arms. Despite missing time earlier this year due to a hamstringinjury, the former first-rounder has been highly productive when on the field, registering a .304/.349/.474 slash line with five home runs, a .355 wOBA, and a 131 wRC+ through 44 games played.

Sun Jun 1523:10Jackson Merrill Placed on Seven-Day Concussion Injured List
The San Diego Padres announced that they have placed outfielder Jackson Merrill (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list. The team selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Trenton Brooks from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. Merrill had to leave the Padres' game early on Saturday after he was shaken up on a stolen base attempt. Considering the unpredictable nature of concussions, it's unclear how much time Merrill will miss. It's the second IL placement of the season for the 22-year-old standout, who missed most of April and a few days in May with a hamstring strain. When healthy, Merrill has hit a terrific .304/.349/.474 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 186 plate appearances. He's a big loss for the Padres and fantasy managers alike.

Sun Jun 1508:12Jackson Merrill Removed Early on Saturday
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (head) was removed early from Saturday's contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a possible concussion. Merrill suffered an apparent head injury while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning. He was on the ground for a while before exiting with the trainers. He went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk before leaving. Padres manager Mike Shildt said afterwards that Merrill was woozy, which is never a good sign. Merrill will undergo further testing on Sunday, so fantasy managers should get more information soon. Fantasy managers should consider Merrill as day-to-day for the moment.

Wed May 2805:48Jackson Merrill Homers in Win Over Marlins
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill had a productive night in his team's 8-6 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, two walks, and two runs scored in the win. With the score 7-6 in the eighth inning, the second-year outfielder gave the Padres an insurance run in the eighth inning with his fifth homer of the season. After a breakout rookie campaign, Merrill is enjoying an excellent sophomore season, hitting .333 with 18 runs, 19 RBI, and one steal across 111 at-bats. He remains one of the top outfielders in fantasy and should be active in starting lineups every day.

Mon May 1219:14Jackson Merrill Returns To Padres Lineup
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (illness) is back in center field and is batting in the cleanup spot for Monday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi at Petco Park. Merrill was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies in Denver because he was feeling under the weather, but he's good to go now and should be returned to all starting lineups in redraft leagues despite a lefty-lefty matchup against a pitcher he's never faced. The 22-year-old former 27th overall pick has been outstanding in his 56 at-bats for the Friars this year, going 25-for-56 (.446) with four home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs and a stolen base. Since returning from an injured-list stint due to a hamstring injury, Merrill has a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 11-for-19 with a homer, two doubles, six RBI and five runs scored.

Sun May 1113:42Jackson Merrill Scratched Due To Illness
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill (illness) was removed from Sunday's lineup due to an illness. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status leading up to their next contest on Monday evening against the Los Angeles Angels. Merrill recently returned from the 10-day injured list earlier this week and has picked up right where he left off, holding a stellar .579/.600/.842 slash line with two doubles, one home run, and six RBI. Before his injury, the former top prospect posted a strong .378/.415/.676 slash line with two doubles and three long balls during his first 10 games of the season. This afternoon, Merrill will be replaced by Tyler Wade, who will cover center field and bat in the nine-hole. The Padres are a strong team to target in DFS, facing Colorado right-hander German Marquez, who carries a high 9.90 ERA.
