Mon Sep 817:32Alec Burleson Returns From Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that they activated first baseman/outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) from the 10-day injured list and designated infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampon for assignment in a corresponding move. The Cardinals have yet to release their starting lineup for Monday's series opener in Seattle against the Mariners, but Burleson should be in it. Burleson is back in 10 days after recovering from right-wrist inflammation and should return to a regular role all over the diamond for the Red Birds in the final month of the regular season. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter has been one of the more consistent bats for the Cards this year, and he'll be returning to a .286/.337/.451 slash line with a .788 OPS, 16 home runs, 60 RBI, 47 runs and five steals in 122 games. Burleson is six homers from setting a new career high.

Sun Sep 716:32Alec Burleson Expected to Return on Monday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) is expected to come off the 10-day injured list before Monday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners. Burleson will end up with a minimum IL stay after landing on the shelf with right-wrist inflammation on Aug. 29. He underwent a pain-killing injection shortly after going on the IL, and it helped lead to a quick recovery. The 26-year-old will return with a .286/.337/.451 line, 16 homers, 60 RBI, 47 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 472 plate appearances. With three weeks left in the season, Burleson will have a chance to reach the 20-HR mark for the second straight year.

Wed Sep 312:23Alec Burleson Could Take Batting Practice Soon
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder/first baseman Alec Burleson (wrist) is recovering well after receiving a pain-killing injection in his injured right wrist. Burleson, who said he feels "drastically different" since the injection, could take batting practice soon, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The 26-year-old may even be able to return from the 10-day injured list next week without a minor-league rehab assignment. Burleson, out since Aug. 29, only mustered a .713 OPS in 24 games last month, but he has put up respectable numbers in 2025. He owns a .286/.337/.451 line with 16 homers, 60 RBI, 47 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 472 trips to the plate.

Mon Sep 118:56Alec Burleson Plays Catch on Monday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) was seen playing catch ahead of Monday's game against the Athletics. It's a good sign to see Burleson playing catch after landing on the injured list on Friday due to right wrist inflammation. Burleson received an injection to help with the discomfort. The fact he is already throwing the baseball means that the injection helped. The hope is that Burleson can be activated when first eligible on September 8. Burleson has 16 home runs, 60 RBI, and five stolen bases across 430 plate appearances this season.

Fri Aug 2914:09Alec Burleson Lands on Injured List With Wrist Inflammation
The St. Louis Cardinals placed infielder/outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with right-wrist inflammation and called up rookie second baseman Cesar Prieto from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo. Burleson's right wrist caused him to be pulled early from Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after he also missed a game last week with the same injury. The Cardinals are hoping that he'll be recovered in another 10 days, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to return when eligible to come off the IL on Sept. 8. At least until Victor Scott II (ankle) comes off the IL, expect Nathan Church to be a regular in St. Louis' outfield. The left-handed-hitting Burleson has been one of the Cards' more consistent offensive players in 2025, as he's hitting .286/.337/451 with a .788 OPS, 16 homers, 60 RBI, 47 runs and five steals.

Sun Aug 2411:44Alec Burleson Back in Cardinals Lineup
St. Louis Cardinals infielder/outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) is starting in left field and batting third in Sunday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Ryan Pepiot at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Burleson did not play on Friday against Tampa but is feeling better after the day off on Saturday, so he'll return to the starting nine. The 26-year-old left-handed swinger has never faced Pepiot in his career but has been hot at the plate of late, hitting .333/.364/.476 with a home run, double and eight RBI in his last 10 games. Fantasy managers will want to get him back in their starting lineups. In his fourth big-league season in 2025, Burleson is slashing a strong .285/.337/.449 with a career-best .786 OPS, 15 home runs, 59 RBI, 43 runs scored and five stolen bases in 451 plate appearances over 117 games played.

Fri Aug 2218:06Alec Burleson Scratched With Wrist Injury
St. Louis Cardinals infielder/outfielder Alec Burleson (wrist) has been scratched from the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Lars Nootbaar is now starting in left field and will bat leadoff, with Nathan Church re-entering the lineup in center field and in the nine-hole against Rays right-hander Adrian Houser. It's unclear exactly how serious Burleson's wrist injury is, so we'll consider him day-to-day for now. The 26-year-old has been an everyday player for St. Louis for the third straight year and is having a strong campaign at the plate with a .285/.337/.449 slash line, a career-high .786 OPS, 15 home runs, 59 RBI, 43 runs and five stolen bases in 117 games played. Nootbaar has 14 career at-bats against Houser but has hit only .214 against him with a .553 OPS.

Tue Jul 2219:53Alec Burleson a Late Addition to the Lineup
After initially being held out of Tuesday's starting lineup at Coors Field versus the Colorado Rockies, the St. Louis Cardinals have added outfielder Alec Burleson (foot) to the batting order. He will start in left field and bat third against Rockies right-hander Bradley Blalock. Initially, the Cards had Brendan Donovan in left field and rookie Thomas Saggese starting at second base, but now Donovan will head to the keystone and Saggese will start on the bench. Burleson fouled a ball off his right foot in Monday's series opener and was pulled early as a precaution. Thankfully, X-rays came back negative. Especially in a hitter-friendly venue, fantasy managers will want to get the 26-year-old left-handed hitter back in their starting lineups. The former second-rounder has been consistent with a .289/.336/.464 slash line, .800 OPS, 12 homers, 44 RBI and 32 runs in 304 at-bats.

Tue Jul 2200:58Alec Burleson Exits Early Monday With Foot Contusion
Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson (foot) exited Monday's 6-2 win over the Rockies in the seventh inning with a contusion on the top of his foot after fouling a ball off of himself, per the Athletic's Katie Woo. Burleson went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts before being replaced by Garrett Hampson. The 26-year-old underwent imaging after the game, with results coming back negative. He should be considered day-to-day, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out for lineups in the coming days. Burleson has put together a productive season to this point, slashing .289/.336/.464 with 12 home runs, 44 RBI, and four stolen bases in 332 plate appearances.

Mon Jul 2123:10Alec Burleson Fouls Pitch Off Knee, Leaves Early on Monday
St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Alec Burleson (knee) was removed from Monday's game early at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies after fouling a pitch off his right knee in the seventh inning, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Burleson looked to be in a lot of pain as he limped to the dugout. He was replaced in left field by Garrett Hampson. Before leaving, Burleson was 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts, so it was a pretty bad day all around. The Cardinals will most likely send him for X-rays, and we should know later on Monday or early Tuesday whether the 26-year-old is dealing with a serious injury. Losing the former second-rounder for a long stretch of time would be a big blow for St. Louis and fantasy managers as Burleson has been solid this year with a .293/.340/.470 slash line, .810 OPS, 12 homers, 44 RBI and 32 runs in 300 at-bats.

Sat Jun 2122:34Alec Burleson Homers, Drives in Three in Win

Burleson cracked a two-run homer in the first inning and later chipped in an RBI single in the fifth. He finished the day 2-for-5, extending his hitting streak to nine games. So far in June, Burleson has batted a sizzling .391 (27-for-69) with four homers, 14 RBI, 10 runs, and 7:4 K:BB while taking on an everyday role in the Cardinals' lineup. The club has even been starting the lefty-swinging Burleson against southpaws in recent games. He'll have a tough matchup Sunday with Reds lefty Andrew Abbott scheduled to toe the rubber. Burleson has gone 0-for-6 against Abbott.

Sun May 1111:50Alec Burleson Sitting Against Southpaw
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson is not in the starting lineup on Sunday when the Cardinals face Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore. Through the early part of the season, Burleson has yet to receive a start against a left-handed pitcher. Instead, this will open the DH spot for catcher Ivan Herrera, who will bat in the six-hole. Through his first 36 games of the season, Burleson has been effective at the plate, holding a .261/.311/.351 slash line with two home runs and three stolen bases. Under the hood, the 26-year-old has generated a low .279 xwOBA with a 3.2% barrel rate, which suggests he could face regression later in the season. Fantasy managers should expect Burleson to also sit on Monday as they are set to face Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. This afternoon, the Cardinals are best to fade in DFS facing Gore.

Sat Apr 1212:13Alec Burleson Heads To Bench Against A Lefty
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson will take a seat on the bench to start Saturday's contest at Busch Stadium against the Philadelphia Phillies with a left-hander on the mound. Luken Baker will get the start at designated hitter and will bat second against Phillies lefty Cristopher Sanchez. Burleson is hitting .286 (12-for-42) early on with five RBI and five runs scored and is currently on a five-game hitting streak, but the Cards will give him a break on Saturday against a left-hander that has been stingy so far in 2025. Despite Burleson's hot early-season hitting, he has yet to clear the fences for his fantasy managers. Baker is also in search of his first long ball on Saturday and is hitting a strong .286 (4-for-14) with a double, two RBI and a run scored in his eight games played as a reserve. Baker has never faced Sanchez in his career.

Thu Sep 26 202415:02Alec Burleson, Michael Siani Sitting On Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Alec Burleson and Michael Siani are both out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies and left-hander Kyle Freeland. Ivan Herrera is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup, while Victor Scott II is in center field and in the nine-hole against Freeland. Burleson will head to the bench again for the second straight day with a lefty on the mound. The 25-year-old hasn't started against a southpaw since Aug. 6 and came into the day hitting .196 (26-for-133) against them with only three of his 21 homers on the season. Herrera will be a popular DFS sleeper on Thursday at Coors Field against a lefty. The 24-year-old Panamanian catcher is batting .297 on the year with one of his four long balls coming against a southpaw. Siani takes a seat after starting in each of the first two games in Colorado.

Sat Aug 17 202423:04Alec Burleson Tallies Three Hits, Goes Deep On Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson went 3-for-4 with two singles and a long ball with two RBI on Saturday evening. Burleson launched his 21st round-tripper of the campaign in the third inning which scored shortstop Masyn Winn. Entering this game, the 25-year-old carried a .233/.250/.395 over his previous 11 games and will now carry some momentum into Sunday's series finale. Overall, Burleson is on pace to have a career season, holding an overall .278/.311/.465 line. Under the hood, he carries an above-average 40.8% hard-hit rate and a stellar 13.1% K rate. While the East Carolina product will occasionally sit against southpaws, he should remain in most lineups going forward and will be worth a look in favorable DFS matchups.

Mon Aug 12 202416:10Alec Burleson Sitting Against Southpaw
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson will head to the bench on Monday for the series opener against the hosting division-rival Cincinnati Reds with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. Burleson will get a day of rest after starting each of the team's last nine games. Jordan Walker will play right field and bat seventh in his return to the big-league team, while catcher Willson Contreras will serve as the designated hitter and bat second against Reds lefty Andrew Abbott. Pedro Pages is catching and batting eighth. Burleson is having a breakout campaign in 2024 in his second full season, slashing .277/.311/.463 with a .774 OPS, 20 home runs, 67 RBI and seven steals in 110 games. However, he's hit just .205 (24-for-117) with three of his 20 homers against lefties on the year. The return of Walker could mean that Burleson finds his way to the bench more often against southpaws.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman/outfielder Alec Burleson went 1-for-4 with a home run on Saturday afternoon. Through 103 games, the former East Carolina product sits with a strong .278/.314/.468 slash line, 64 RBI, and seven swiped bags. Under the hood, he holds an excellent 12.5% K rate, a .286 xBA, and a .466 xSLG, which are significantly above the average marks. Fantasy managers should continue to feel confident slotting Burleson into their lineup as he is slotted in the top half of the St. Louis batting order every day.

Sat Jul 13 202419:00Alec Burleson's Huge Day Fuels Cardinals Blowout Win On Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson had a huge day at the plate on Saturday in the Cardinals' 11-3 win over the Chicago Cubs in the first game of their doubleheader. Burleson went three-for-four with a three-run homer and a double, tallying three RBI and two runs. Burleson increased his OPS to .807 on the season. The lefty is scorching in July and has a 1.032 OPS in 46 AB during the month. As the Cardinals look to hold onto their wild card spot and put pressure on the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central (4.5 GB) his production is very welcome for an offense that has, at times, been underwhelming. Burleson is back in the Cardinals lineup for Game Two of their doubleheader against Cubs starting pitcher Javier Assad.
