Mon Sep 1516:21Masyn Winn to Undergo Arthroscopic Knee Surgery
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee), who has been shut down for the rest of the season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, will undergo arthroscopic surgery early in the offseason, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. Winn, who will be a National League Gold Glove candidate, played through his meniscus tear for weeks before finally being shut down. The good news is that his surgery will pose no risk of impacting his availability for next season. The 23-year-old leads all MLB defenders in Outs Above Average (22), and his .994 fielding percentage will be the highest full-season mark by a Cardinals shortstop in club history. Winn also finishes his second full MLB season with a .253/.310/.363 slash line, nine homers, 51 RBI, and nine steals. With Winn out the rest of the year, Thomas Saggese should see more starts at the 6 to close things out.

Fri Sep 1223:31Masyn Winn Shut Down for Rest of Season
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is done for the year, manager Oliver Marmol announced on Friday. Winn tried to play through a torn meniscus in his right knee, but the 72-76 Cardinals will instead shut him down for the rest of 2025. Winn, who hasn't played since Monday, was in the Cardinals' initial lineup on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The club made Winn a late scratch, though, replacing him with Thomas Saggese. The 23-year-old defensive stud will end his season with a .253/.310/.363 line, nine homers, 51 RBI, 72 runs, and nine steals over 537 trips to the plate. Winn is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery sometime in the coming months. Meanwhile, both Saggese and Brendan Donovan will see time at shortstop over the final two-plus weeks of the season.

Fri Sep 1218:30Masyn Winn Returns for Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is starting at shortstop and will bat in the six-hole for Friday night's divisional contest against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Quinn Priester. Winn will return to the field on Friday after missing the last three games with a meniscus tear in his knee. While the 23-year-old will need surgery in the offseason on his knee, he plans on playing through it for the final couple of weeks of the 2025 campaign. It doesn't exactly give fantasy managers a vote of confidence, especially since he has hit .164 (11-for-67) with no home runs, a double, five RBI, nine runs, and two steals in 18 games played since Aug. 17. Winn has faced Priester only two times in his career and has two hits off of him.

Wed Sep 1018:19Masyn Winn Absent on Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. It was recently announced that Winn is dealing with a meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery. Despite that, Winn plans to keep playing over the next few weeks and get surgery in the offseason. Fantasy managers should expect the Cardinals to be careful with Winn down the stretch of the season. Thomas Saggese will cover shortstop while Jose Fermin plays second base on Wednesday.

Wed Sep 1009:46Masyn Winn Will Require Offseason Knee Surgery
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to soreness in his left knee. It has been revealed that the 23-year-old has a slight tear of his meniscus, which will require surgery in the offseason. The team plans to let him play through it as there aren't concerns of further damage, it is just a pain tolerance issue at this point. The surgery is also not expected to delay his start to next season. The former second-round draft pick has not had a productive year at the plate, but more so in the second half, producing a .247/.298/.331 slash line with a .281 wOBA and 79 wRC+ since the All-Star break. Hopefully next year will show some improvement, as he currently stands as the 28th-ranked shortstop in terms of fantasy scoring.

Mon Aug 2516:23Masyn Winn Back in Action on Monday
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is starting at shortstop and will hit second for Monday's series opener at Busch Stadium against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Johan Oviedo. Winn had an MRI exam on his sore left knee on Sunday and didn't play in the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, but apparently he received good news and is back on the field for the start of a new week. The 23-year-old has only faced Oviedo twice in his career and has one hit. The former second-round pick in 2020 by St. Louis has a current season slash line of .258/.314/.378 with a below-average .692 OPS, nine home runs, nine stolen bases, 46 RBI and 66 runs in 445 at-bats as the team's starting shortstop. Winn will attempt to turn things around after a tough April that has seen him go 15-for-75 (.200) with two homres, three doubles, seven RBI, three steals and 19 K's in 19 games.UPDATE: Winn's MRI showed improvement from last month, and the team doesn't think he's risking anything for next season by continuing to play. The Cardinals will manage Winn on a day-by-day/pain-tolerance basis.

Sun Aug 2423:26Masyn Winn to Undergo MRI on Knee
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) will undergo an MRI on his sore left knee on Monday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Winn said that a previous MRI in July revealed "a little something," but he received an injection during the All-Star break and has continued to play through the issue. While the 23-year-old would like to finish the season before potentially undergoing arthroscopic surgery, the Cardinals should have a better idea of his status on Monday. Winn missed the Cardinals' 7-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday and has slumped to a .200/.259/.320 line over 19 games and 81 plate appearances in August. Across 486 trips to the plate this year, the defensive wiz has hit .258/.314/.378 with nine homers, 46 RBI, 66 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

Sun Aug 2411:37Masyn Winn Out With Knee Pain on Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (knee) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays due to knee pain, according to John Denton of MLB.com. Winn received an injection in his knee over the All-Star break in mid-July and has been playing in pain for weeks. While he's day-to-day for now, this is totally something that could land the 23-year-old starting shortstop on the 10-day injured list, so fantasy managers need to plan for the worst. With Winn out on Sunday, Thomas Saggese will draw into the lineup at the 6 and will hit sixth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Winn also had a day off on Saturday, but he's still in pain and needs more time off his feet. Since the All-Star break, Winn has hit .267 (32-for-120) with two homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI, four steals and a 23:4 K:BB in 31 games.

Wed Jun 2508:43Masyn Winn Homers in Win; Signs of Growth Emerging
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn launched his seventh home run of the season in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs. The blast came in the third inning off Jameson Taillona two-run shot on a 79.9 mph slider. Winn also added a double, finishing 2-for-4 with two additional RBI and another run scored. The 23-year-old is slashing .256/.324/.391 with a .715 OPS and .317 wOBA and is showing modest improvement in his third year. His walk rate is up slightly from last season at 8.3 percent. If Winn can make more consistent contact to pair with his elite glove, he could develop into a long-term impact player.

Thu May 2903:39Masyn Winn Tallies Four Hits in Victory
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two singles in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He added an RBI and three runs scored. Winn struck out in his first at-bat, but was a mainstay on the bases thereafter. He singled in the fourth and was sent home later on a Jordan Walker base knock. Then, he doubled in the fifth -- driving in teammate Lars Nootbaar -- and scored a batter later when Brendan Donovan blasted a two-run homer. The 23-year-old doubled again in the seventh and capped off the massive performance with another single in the eighth. Winn is having another solid season in 2025. Despite a small step back in strikeout percentage (22.7%), he's sporting a slightly increased walk rate (9.9%), average exit velocity (88.6 MPH), and hard-hit rate (36.1%) -- slashing .278/.357/.438 through 162 at-bats.

Wed May 1422:01Masyn Winn Homers, Tallies Four Hits
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn went 4-for-5 with a home run, a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies. This was his third four-hit game of the season and he is now slashing .281/.371/.465 with five home runs, 15 RBI, 23 runs, and two stolen bases in 33 games on the year. He was slow out of the gate but has turned things around after returning from the injured list on April 22, and he is showing the breakout potential that many drafted him for.

Tue May 615:30Masyn Winn Back In Tuesday's Lineup
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (ankle) is back at shortstop and is hitting second on Tuesday at Busch Stadium against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Paul Skenes. The Cardinals held Winn out of the series-opening win over the Pirates on Monday after he suffered a mild left-ankle sprain in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the New York Mets. The 23-year-old is back in there on Tuesday and back near the top of the batting order, but DFS gamers will likely be passing on him in this matchup against the hard-throwing Skenes, last year's National League Rookie of the Year. Winn has excelled in the two-hole, though, hitting .412 (7-for-17) in a small sample size with two home runs, three RBI and a stolen base. In 12 career at-bats versus Skenes, he's hitting .167 with a .334 OPS.

Mon May 516:40Masyn Winn Out On Monday Against Pirates
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (ankle) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener at Busch Stadium against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates. Jose Barrero will get another start at the 6 and will hit ninth versus Pirates right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski. Winn sprained his left ankle in Game 2 of a Sunday doubleheader against the New York Mets and won't be available to begin the week. However, the 23-year-old's injury isn't considered serious, so he could be back in there when the series continues on Tuesday. The former second-rounder in 2020 recently got bumped up near the top of St. Louis' batting order and has hit .333 (9-for-27) with two homers, four doubles, three RBI, a steal and eight runs scored in his last nine games. Barrero is 1-for-9 with a run scored in limited action so far in 2025 and should be avoided in DFS.UPDATE: Winn was encouraged by how his ankle felt on Monday. He said he could enter Monday's game as a defensive replacement (if needed) and is hoping to be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Sun May 421:12Masyn Winn Exits With Ankle Sprain
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (ankle) left the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with a left-ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in the third inning when he tripped rounding third base, and was later pulled from the game before the top of the fifth. The specifics of the severity of the injury are not yet known, but hopefully the shortstop won't need another trip to the injured list after already spending time there this season with back spasms. He was finally starting to come around in the recent weeks, batting .333 with two home runs and two steals since April 22.

Sun May 412:01Masyn Winn Out For Game 1 Of Doubleheader
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn will take a seat for the team's first game of a doubleheader on Sunday against the visiting New York Mets at Busch Stadium. Jose Barrero will start at the 6 and hit ninth for the Cards against rookie right-hander Blade Tidwell, who will be making his major-league debut. Winn has been red-hot at the plate since returning from the injured list and has been hitting near the top of the batting order as a result. The 23-year-old has gone 12-for-36 (.333) with two homers, four doubles, five RBI, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in his last 10 games since April 22. Fantasy managers will want to get him back into their lineups for Game 2 of the doubleheader later on Sunday. Barrero should be avoided in DFS in the nine-hole for St. Louis. He has just three at-bats with St. Louis this year and is hitless.

Thu May 100:12Masyn Winn Homers Twice In Game 1 Of Doubleheader
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn filled up the stat sheet in a 6-0 win over the Reds in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday. He was moved up into the second spot in the batting order and instantly showed he belonged there by hitting two home runs, walking twice, and stealing a base. He's gotten off to a slow start at the dish this season but has slowly raised his stat line to a respectable .260/.345/.425 with three home runs and two stolen bases. It's too early to give up on Winn as a potential breakout candidate with the upside for 20 homers and 20 steals.

Tue Apr 2917:09Masyn Winn In The Two-Hole Against Reds
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is hitting second on Tuesday against the hosting Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Brady Singer at Great American Ball Park. With Winn moving up from the nine-hole that he's occupied all season, the Cardinals will move center fielder Victor Scott II down to ninth on Tuesday. Although Winn hasn't done much with a .231/.311/.308 slash line in his first 65 at-bats of 2025, the 23-year-old being moved up to the No. 2 spot makes him much more attractive for DFS purposes. In his last six games, he's gone 5-for-20 with two doubles, two RBI, a steal and three runs scored for the Red Birds. Winn has never faced Springer in his MLB career. In his last nine games, Scott has gone 7-for-29 with three doubles, three RBI, two steals and four runs scored in 31 plate appearances.

Tue Apr 2215:52Masyn Winn Officially Reinstated And Starting On Tuesday
The St. Louis Cardinals officially activated shortstop Masyn Winn (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned center fielder Michael Siani to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move, according to the team. Wynn is starting at shortstop and is batting ninth on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Scott Blewett at Camden Yards. The 23-year-old will return to the Cards lineup after a minimal stay on the IL after dealing with mild lower-back spasms. As long as he continues to reside at the bottom of St. Louis' batting order, he won't have a ton of fantasy upside for managers in deep-mixed leagues. The former second-rounder has also gotten off to a slow start in 2025 offensively, batting .222 (10-for-45) with a homer, three RBI and eight runs scored in his first 13 games played.

Tue Apr 2212:20Masyn Winn Expected To Be Activated On Tuesday
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports that St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (back) rejoined the team in Atlanta on Monday and is expected to come off the 10-day injured list when he's eligible on Tuesday. There was a chance that Winn was going to rejoin St. Louis over the weekend after dealing with a minor case of lower-back spasms, but the Cardinals played it safe and will have him return this week. Fantasy managers will want to check back later on Tuesday to see if he's back in the starting lineup against the Braves. In three minor-league rehab games, the 23-year-old went 2-for-11, with both of his hits being home runs for Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Hopefully that will get him going at the plate in his return to the big leagues, as he went just 10-for-45 (.222) with a homer and three RBI in the early going before his injury. Thomas Saggese will head back to the bench upon Winn's return.
