Mon Sep 1519:41Marcus Semien Takes Batting Practice on Monday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) took batting practice on Monday at Daikin Park before the series opener against the division-rival Houston Astros, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Semien is three and a half weeks removed from a broken left foot that he suffered in late August. The 34-year-old veteran is certainly making progress, but there's no timetable for his return at the moment while Texas battles for a wild-card spot in the American League. Until Semien can return, the Rangers will move forward with Cody Freeman as their primary starter at the keystone. Semien, a three-time All-Star, has struggled at the plate in 2025 for a second straight season, hitting .230 (108-for-470) with 15 home runs, his lowest total since the shortened 2020 campaign. Still, Texas would love to have him back for the stretch run.

Sun Aug 2423:11Marcus Semien Out 4-6 Weeks, Could Miss Rest of Season
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) was diagnosed on Sunday with a fractured third metatarsal bone and a Lisfranc sprain in his left foot and could miss the rest of the season, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. The durable Semien, who's on the 10-day IL for the first time since 2017, suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot in a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. The 34-year-old won't require surgery, but with his recovery expected to take four to six weeks, he might not play again in 2025 unless the Rangers rally for an improbable playoff berth. They're 4 1/2 games back in the AL wild-card race and 6 1/2 behind the AL West-leading Houston Astros. If Semien's season is over, it'll end with a subpar .230/.305/.364 line, 15 homers, 62 RBI, 62 runs, and 11 stolen bases in 534 plate appearances. Ezequiel Duran, Cody Freeman, and Josh Smith could all see time at the keystone in Semien's absence.

Sat Aug 2321:31Marcus Semien Placed on Injured List
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 22. Semien has been absent from the lineup since fouling a ball off his foot during Thursday's contest. The veteran slugger is scheduled to meet with a foot doctor on Sunday, but the Rangers decided to place him on the shelf anyway. The expectation is that the Rangers are going to use a committee approach at second base while he's out. Ezequiel Duran will probably see the biggest boost, but Josh Smith could also see starts there. Duran could be worth a look in deep leagues given how well he has been hitting in August.

Sat Aug 2316:23Marcus Semien Out Saturday, Will Visit Doctor on Sunday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) will not play Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. Semien, who also missed Friday's game, has a left-foot contusion and is in a walking boot. The 34-year-old has been in pain since he fouled a ball off his foot in a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday and will undergo a fourth round of testing with a doctor on Sunday, according to McFarland. A stint on the 10-day injured list looks like a possibility for Semien, who has hit .230/.305/.364 with 15 homers, 62 RBI, 62 runs, and 11 steals in 534 plate appearances this year. The Rangers haven't released a lineup for Saturday yet, but they started Ezequiel Duran in Semien's absence on Friday.

Sat Aug 2310:54Marcus Semien has Inconclusive MRI
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) was held out of action on Friday, after X-ray imaging came back negative on his left foot contusion. He remained in a walking boot after an inconclusive MRI on Friday, indicating that the injury could be more serious than first believed. Ezequiel Duran played in place of the injured 34-year-old and may see additional playing time should Semien's absence persist. The three-time All-Star has struggled all season with a .230 batting average to go alongside 15 homers and 11 steals. A trip to the Injured List has not yet been ruled out.

Fri Aug 2218:13Marcus Semien Could be Out All Weekend, IL Stint Possible
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday night's contest versus the Cleveland Guardians. Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports reports that Semien could miss the entire weekend series against the Guards and might need to go on the 10-day injured list. Ezquiel Duran will make the start at the keystone on Friday against Guardians right-hander Slade Cecconi and will hit eighth. The 34-year-old Semien fouled a ball off his left foot in Thursday's loss to the Kansas City Royals and was initially diagnosed with a foot contusion. He's apparently still sore and will need at least a couple more days to recover. If Semien isn't ready to go early next week, an IL move could be made. If Semien goes on the IL, both Duran and Josh Smith could share playing time at second. Semien has had a disappointing year and hasn't turned it around in August, hitting .221 (15-for-68).

Thu Aug 2117:07Marcus Semien Leaves Thursday With Foot Contusion
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) left Thursday's series finale early against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium with a left-foot contusion after fouling a ball off of himself in the first inning, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Semien tried to stay in the game before ultimately being pinch hit for during his second plate appearance in the third inning. The 34-year-old veteran struck out in his only trip to the plate on the day. The Rangers will likely send Semien for X-rays, and if they are negative, he could return for Friday's series opener at home against the Cleveland Guardians. If it's a serious injury that requires Semien to go on the injured list, fantasy managers should expect utility man Josh Smith to take over at second base. He is showing his age in 2025 and is hitting .230 (108-for-469) with 15 homers, 62 RBI, 62 runs and 11 steals in 126 games.

Sun Aug 1712:30Marcus Semien Back for Rangers on Sunday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (wrist) is back at second base and will hit sixth for Sunday's series finale in Toronto against the Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios. Semien was hit by a pitch on his right wrist in Friday's loss and then was held out of Saturday's contest as a result. X-rays on the 34-year-old veteran's wrist came back negative, though, which will allow him to return for the final game of the series as Texas looks to avoid a sweep. It's been a disappointing 2025 campaign for the three-time All-Star, as he enters Sunday's tilt slashing .223/.299/.353 with a career-worst .652 OPS, 14 home runs, 59 RBI, 58 runs and 11 stolen bases in his 122 games played. He's been much worse in August, hitting .157 (8-for-51) with a homer, six RBI and seven strikeouts in 13 gaems. Semien has hit .250 with a homer and two RBI in 12 career at-bats versus Berrios.

Sat Aug 1621:47Marcus Semien Avoids Serious Injury
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (hand) was absent from the starting lineup during Saturday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Semien missed this game after waking up on Saturday with a swollen wrist after getting hit by a pitch during Friday's contest. He underwent X-rays which came back negative for any fractures or serious damage. That being said, Semien could miss a few days until the swelling goes down, but he shouldn't require a stint on the injured list. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday for another update on his status.

Sat Aug 1613:07Marcus Semien Out on Saturday, Going for X-Rays on his Wrist
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (wrist) is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the hosting Toronto Blue Jays after he was hit by a pitch on his wrist in Friday night's game, according to Shawn McFarland of th Dallas Morning News. Semien said he woke up on Saturday and his wrist was swollen, so he will go for X-rays. Ezequiel Duran will start at the keystone and bat eighth on Saturday against Blue Jays left-hander Eric Lauer. It's the first time that Semien has been out since April, and depending on his X-ray results, this could result in a trip to the injured list for the 34-year-old veteran. Fantasy managers need to prepare for that possibility. Semien has been a disappointment in 2025 and has hit just .157 (8-for-51) with a homer, two doubles, six RBI and seven strikeouts in 13 games in August.

Thu Jul 1007:06Marcus Semien Homers, Drives in Four in Wednesday Loss
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien had a big night in an 11-8 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Semien went 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk, and four RBI to lead the Rangers in the high-scoring loss. The veteran infielder ripped a two-run homer in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie on a blast that traveled 423 feet with an exit velocity of 104.8 MPH. Semien also drove in runs on an RBI groundout in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the third. The veteran is slashing .231/.312/.359 with 10 homers, 41 runs, 46 RBI, and seven steals in 334 at-bats this season, but is hitting just .148 over his past seven games. Hopefully, his big game on Wednesday is a sign of things to come for his fantasy managers.

Tue Jul 110:48Marcus Semien Blast Not Enough in Texas
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien hit his eighth home run of the year on Monday night, but the Rangers couldn't quite complete their comeback, falling 10-6 in extra innings. Semien went 3-for-3 out of the No. 3 spot in the batting order with two walks, two runs scored, and two RBI. He is still only hitting .237 on the season with eight homers and a .298 wOBA, but he has shown some signs of turning things around lately. This 3-for-3 night extends his hitting streak to six games, and during that stretch, he is 11-for-29 (.379) with two doubles, a homer, and a 47.8% hard-hit rate. It's a vast improvement on his season-long stats, but it still remains to be seen if Semien is back to a fantasy-relevant level or just going through a decent stretch. He's worth a look as a streaming or DFS value play in favorable matchups in the short term to find out.

Fri Jun 609:51Marcus Semien Goes Deep Twice on Thursday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Rays. The two home runs were his fifth and sixth of the season. Semien has gotten off to a slow start for his standards this season. Still, he showed some life on Thursday by providing some power, clutch hitting, and showed fantasy managers some signs of better days to come as we move forward into the middle part of the season. In his last seven days, Semien is slashing .611/.682/1.222, and has raised his line to .210/.298/.308 on the season with 23 RBI, 21 runs scored, and five stolen bases. He will look to keep it rolling in the Rangers' three-game series against the Washington Nationals over the weekend.

Fri May 3023:33Marcus Semien Swipes Bag, Homers Amidst Four-Hit Effort
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 4-for-4 with three singles and a two-run homer during Friday's 11-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He also drove in three runs, scored three times, and stole a base. It's no secret that this season hasn't gone according to plan for Semien, who is slashing just .190/.273/.255 with a 21.1 percent strikeout rate. However, Friday's breakout night at the plate reminded fans and fantasy managers what he's capable of doing. He's worth monitoring as he continues to get a consistent stream of at-bats heading into the summer months.

Fri May 2317:13Marcus Semien Drops to Ninth in Batting Order
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is being dropped to ninth in the batting order for Friday's series opener against the hosting Chicago White Sox and right-hander Sean Burke. Semien was dropped from the leadoff spot in late April after a rough start to the 2025 campaign, and now he finds himself all the way at the bottom of the order while sporting a .180/.271/.236 slash line with a .507 OPS, three home runs, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases in 178 at-bats. The 34-year-old three-time All-Star has struck out 46 times and walked 21 times in his 50 games. Semien has remained durable, but he just hasn't hit the ball well through the first third of the season. The good news is his xBA sits at .230, so positive regression should be coming, but fantasy managers may want to bench him until he starts seeing some results.

Wed Apr 2307:32Marcus Semien Snaps Power Skid
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI, and a walk during their 8-5 victory over the Athletics on Tuesday evening. Semien would bring in his first run of the evening on a sacrifice fly in the opening frame. In the fifth inning, Semien would launch a three-run shot, which extended their lead by five runs. This home run scored outfielder Adolis Garcia and shortstop Corey Seager. The veteran second baseman has had a difficult start to the campaign. Entering Tuesday, Semien held an underwhelming .156/.227/.200 slash line through the first 16 games of the month. During this stretch, he hit just one double and one home run. Tuesday's performance was also Semien's first multi-hit game of the campaign. Given his slow start, fantasy managers in shallow formats should continue to monitor his production before viewing him as a must-start option. He will look to continue this momentum on Wednesday, facing Athletics southpaw JP Sears.

Tue Apr 2219:07Marcus Semien Dropped To Five-Hole On Tuesday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is being dropped to fifth in the batting order for Tuesday's contest against the hosting Athletics and right-hander Osvaldo Bido. It's the first time that Semien has hit lower than third in the lineup since joining the Rangers back in 2022, and it comes with Semien entering Tuesday's tilt with a .141/.209/.192 slash line, only one home run, six RBI and five runs scored in his first 78 at-bats of the 2025 season. The good news, though, is that he has recorded a hit in four of his last five games. With the 34-year-old veteran moving down the batting order temporarily, utility man Josh Smith will start in center field and bat leadoff for a Rangers offense that is looking to shake things up. Fantasy managers can only hope the drop in the batting order can get Semien going. He has a hit in just two career at-bats against Bido.

Thu Mar 1312:28Marcus Semien Back On Thursday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (illness) is back at second base and batting leadoff on Thursday in the Cactus League game against the San Francisco Giants. A stomach bug is going around the Rangers' clubhouse in camp, and the 34-year-old veteran wasn't feeling good enough to play on Wednesday. He's now back in there a day later and is hoping to pick it up offensively with Opening Day just several weeks away. In 12 spring games to this point, Semien has gone 6-for-32 (.188) with two home runs, a triple, three RBI and three runs scored in 34 plate appearances. It was a down year for him at the plate last year, too, by his standards as he slashed .237/.308/.391 with 23 home runs, 74 RBI and eight steals in 159 games. Semien's underlying metrics didn't dip, though, so he's still a strong second base target in fantasy that has been one of the most durable players in the league.

Wed Mar 1213:15Marcus Semien Scratched With Stomach Virus
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (illness) was scratched from Wednesday's Cactus League lineup against the Cincinnati Reds due to "a little stomach virus," manager Bruce Bochy said. Sam Haggerty is replacing Semien in the starting lineup at second base and will bat seventh. Semien is a bit under the weather but should be fine in a few days. The 34-year-old has gone just 6-for-32 (.188) with two homers, a triple, three RBI and five strikeouts in 12 Cactus League games to this point, but fantasy managers shouldn't read too much into it. Although Semien disappointed fantasy managers in 2024, his underling metrics really didn't waver, giving him plenty of bounce-back potential in a strong Rangers lineup. He's also been one of the most durable players in the game. Semien is ranked as RotoBaller's No. 6 fantasy second baseman.

Thu Dec 19 202414:25Rangers Could Look To Rest Marcus Semien More
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien has been an iron man in his career. In his 12-year major-league career, he has played a full 162 games three times and played at least 155 games an additional five times. Semien played in 162 games in 2023 and 159 games last year. The last time he played fewer than 159 games in a full season was with the A's in 2017, when he played in 85 games due to a wrist injury. Semien is entering his age-34 season, though, and hit .237/.308/.391 in 2024, his worst offensive season since the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. Manager Bruce Bochy said the team has discussed giving Semien some built-in off days and also moving him around in the batting order. Semien's underlying metrics were on par with his recent seasons, so a bounce-back is entirely possible, especially if some more rest days give him more juice for the entire season.
