Sat Jul 12 | 21:08 | Shinnosuke Ogasawara Optioned Back to Minors |
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. The rookie left-hander will head to the minors following his lackluster outing on Saturday. Ogasawara allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out only one batter over four innings of work against the Milwaukee Brewers. This isn't a shocking move given Ogasawara has allowed seven runs over 6.2 innings of work so far in the big leagues. The assumption is that Ogasawara will be back after the All-Star break. This could be a procedural move in order to get an extra bullpen arm ahead of the break. The Nats haven't announced who will take the spot on the active roster or that Ogasawara would return following the break. Regardless, the rookie southpaw isn't someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats. |

Sun Jul 6 | 18:14 | Shinnosuke Ogasawara Struggles in Debut |
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara made his MLB debut against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. It was a rough debut for Ogasawara who gave up four earned runs in the first inning. He never really settled down as the Red Sox hit him around before he was pulled midway into the third inning. Ogasawara tossed 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, hit one batter, and struck out two in the loss. Ogasawara only made a handful of starts before getting called up for this outing. The southpaw could probably benefit from some extra time in the minors. If he stays in the rotation, Ogasawara would be in line to face the Milwaukee Brewers next week. The 27-year-old isn't a recommended streaming option, assuming he even gets the chance to make another start. |

Sat Jul 5 | 21:30 | Shinnosuke Ogasawara Called up to Majors |
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara was called up by the organization on Saturday. The 27-year-old is set to make his MLB debut against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Ogasawara was signed to a two-year, $3.5 million deal by the Nats over the offseason. He posted a 4.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 12/4 K/BB ratio across three starts at Triple-A. Those aren't great numbers, but apparently the Nats feel that Ogasawara is ready for the MLB. There's some low-end streaming value here, but Ogasawara doesn't offer a ton of upside against a tough Red Sox lineup. |

Fri Mar 21 | 19:31 | Shinnosuke Ogasawara Optioned To Minors |
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester. The left-hander signed a two-year, $3.5 million deal with the Nats this offseason. Before that, Ogasawara was posting solid numbers in Japan. This past season, Ogasawara 3.12 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 82/22 K/BB ratio across 24 appearances with the Chunichi Dragons. The expectation is that the 27-year-old will contribute to the Nats pitching staff at some point. For now, the Nats want him to continue getting in more work at the minor league level. |

Sat Feb 15 | 15:15 | Shinnosuke Ogasawara Sharp In First Bullpen |
According to Jessica Camerato of MLB.com, Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara performed very well in his first major league bullpen. Nationals pitching coach Jim Hickey noted that he was not only impressed that Ogasawara threw despite arriving to camp late at night but was also pleased with his performance. Hickey credited the shapes of pitches and his overall repertoire. After spending nine seasons with the Chunichi Dragons in Japan, Ogasawara signed a two-year contract with the Nationals earlier in the offseason. While Ogasawara is not a hard thrower, he is able to mix several different pitches in his arsenal. Ogasawara showed off his curveball and mixed in a fastball and changeup. Fantasy managers should expect the 27-year-old to compete for a spot in the starting rotation. |
