He's struggled to hit for power (1.4% barrel rate) while also whiffing too often (31% strikeout rate), an uninspiring combination. The Rockies have already traded away one infielder in third baseman Ryan McMahon, and could do the same with veteran middle infielders Thairo Estrada and Orlando Arcia, so there could be playing time available for Ritter upon his return.

He was riding an 18-game hitting streak at Triple-A, where he posted an elite .443/.489/.987 line. With Tovar hitting the IL, fantasy managers should expect Ritter to see close to an everyday role in the starting nine. Given his high power upside, he is worth adding in all standard leagues.

Ritter has had an outstanding season overall, but has been on another level in May. The 24-year-old is slashing .374/.436/.890 with 11 home runs in 91 at-bats. The quality of contact on the season looks strong, with a 42 percent hard-hit rate and 14 percent barrel rate. He's displayed a good approach to supplement his power, with a 17:10 K:BB in May as well. Ritter could be called up to help the Rockies' poor offense at some point in the summer to play second base.

Ritter launched three long balls on Monday evening and followed that performance up with another multi-home-run contest. This outing also extended his hitting streak to an impressive 12 games. During this stretch, the former fourth-round selection has been one of the most productive hitters at the Triple-A level. He has held an impressive .452/.492/1.053 slash line with nine doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. Fantasy managers should continue to closely monitor Ritter's production at Triple-A as he appears to be nearing his MLB debut. When he gets the call, he should take over the keystone, as Adael Amador has held a low .146 AVG.

The Rockies' 12th-ranked prospect has also now collected an extra-base hit in 10 consecutive games (regular hit streak at 11), pushing his season-long slash line to .284/.400/.580 and earning back-to-back Pacific Coast League (PCL) Player of the Week honors for his performance. With a 21.1 percent K% and strong 14.1 percent BB% to boot, the 24-year-old hasn't looked overmatched in his first run through Triple-A pitching. Ezequiel Tovar has shortstop blocked, but the longer second baseman Adael Amador scuffles in the big leagues, the better the chances of a call-up for Ritter become, and with the Rockies going nowhere this year, they may want to see what they have in their 2022 fourth-round draft pick. For now, however, Ritter isn't a stash candidate, but with a 20/20 season under his belt in 2023, he could eventually become a waiver wire add if all goes well.
