Tue Sep 9 | 21:33 | Joey Cantillo Dominates Royals on Tuesday |
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo dominated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, earning the victory by throwing eight scoreless innings and striking out five while allowing four hits and zero walks. In 80 1/3 big-league innings (31 games, 10 starts), Cantillo is 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts. He's been excellent in two starts for Cleveland since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on September 3, allowing just one run across 14 innings pitched. Walks (12.1% BB rate entering Tuesday) have been an issue for Cantillo this season, but he's consistently missed bats and could be an intriguing streaming option for fantasy managers down the stretch. |

Tue Sep 2 | 17:31 | Joey Cantillo Expected to Start on Wednesday |
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo is with the big-league club and is expected to make the start for Wednesday's game at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox, according to Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Left-hander Logan Allen will be either pushed back in the rotation or moved to the bullpen with the return of Cantillo. The 25-year-old southpaw won't be a recommended streamer for fantasy managers in his return to the Guards on Wednesday after sporting an ERA over 6.00 with 12 strikeouts and four walks in two starts for Triple-A Columbus since being sent down to the farm. In his 29 appearances (eight starts) in the big leagues this year, Cantillo has a decent 3.93 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP, 80 strikeouts and 36 walks in 66 1/3 frames. In a relief appearance against Boston on April 27, he allowed three runs (two earned) with a walk and three K's in just two innings. |

Thu Jul 3 | 10:40 | Joey Cantillo to Start for Guardians on Thursday |
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo will start their game against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Righty Luis L. Ortiz had been scheduled to take the mound, but Major League Baseball has placed him on paid leave for an unknown reason. The start against the Cubs' high-powered offense figures to be a short one for Cantillo, who has only totaled 28 1/3 innings in 21 appearances this season. The 25-year-old has registered a 3.81 ERA with 36:14 K:BB and a 1.38 WHIP. |

Tue Mar 25 | 07:54 | Joey Cantillo Starting Season In Bullpen |
Cleveland Guardians left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo will open the season in the bullpen. Cantillo was competing for a spot in the rotation but will instead begin his 2025 season pitching out of the bullpen. During spring training, Cantillo held a high 7.82 ERA with a 1.89 WHIP across 12 2/3 innings of work. During this stint, he tallied 18 punchouts but served up nine free passes. Last summer, Cantillo made his MLB debut, appeared in nine games, and started eight of them. Across 38 2/3 innings, the southpaw held a 4.89 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He posted a 15:44 BB:K while generating a strong .224 xBA. At the Triple-A level last season, Cantillo posted a 3.29 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP. Fantasy managers should monitor his progression in the bullpen as he could return to the rotation if he performs well. |

Tue Feb 25 | 09:49 | Joey Cantillo Sharp In Monday's Start |
Cleveland Guardians pitching prospect Joey Cantillo tossed two shutout frames during his start on Monday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cantillo allowed a leadoff single to Arizona's Ketel Marte but kept the bases empty after that. He tallied three punchouts and did not serve up a free pass. The 25-year-old is currently competing for a spot in the starting rotation. Last season, Cantillo made his MLB debut. He tossed 38 2/3 innings, pitching primarily in the rotation. He tallied 44 punchouts and held a 4.89 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He generated a strong .224 xBA and a 3.83 xERA. However, the former 16th-round pick will need to show stronger command of his pitches, as his 9.2 percent walk rate was below the average marks. He is competing alongside Triston McKenzie and Jakob Junis for the final spot in the rotation. He could have value in deeper formats if he earns the spot. |

Tue Sep 10 2024 | 00:37 | Joey Cantillo Fans 10 In Seven-Inning Start Monday |
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Joey Cantillo turned in the best start of his young career in Monday's 5-3 win over the White Sox. Cantillo, who was recalled from Triple-A Columbus ahead of the start, pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts, earning his first career win. The 24-year-old prospect has made six appearances (five starts) with the Guardians and owns a bloated 5.96 ERA in 25 2/3 IP. He has pitched better at Triple-A, but it does not seem he necessarily has a clear path to playing time down the stretch in the big leagues. It is possible he could make a few more spot starts, but he seems to be a more relevant player in dynasty or keeper fantasy leagues at this time. |

Mon Aug 26 2024 | 12:04 | Joey Cantillo Called Up By Guardians |
The Cleveland Guardians recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Monday, and he's expected to appear in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. Right-hander Nick Sandlin is getting the starting nod on the bump, but Cantillo, the team's No. 17 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could serve in a bulk-relief role. In Cantillo's first four big-league starts, he went 0-3 with an 8.47 ERA and 1.76 WHIP while striking out 14 and waking nine in 17 innings pitched. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid the 24-year-old southpaw in his first major-league appearance since Aug. 21, especially with a tough matchup against the Royals on tap. Cantillo is expected to be sent back to Columbus after the team's twin bill on Monday. |

Fri Aug 9 2024 | 12:51 | Joey Cantillo Called Up To Start Game 1 On Friday |
The Cleveland Guardians recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Friday to serve as their 27th man and start in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the hosting division-rival Minnesota Twins. Cantillo, the team's No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will be making his third major-league start for Cleveland after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits (two homers) while walking three and fanning seven in his first two starts versus the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old southpaw will get another difficult matchup on the road and will most likely head back to Columbus to continue his development after this spot start. In eight outings (seven starts) at Columbus this year, he's posted a 2.79 ERA, A 1.48 WHIP and a 39:19 K:BB in 29 innings pitched. Consider Cantillo a risky fantasy streamer with minimal upside on Friday. |

Sun Aug 4 2024 | 14:01 | Joey Cantillo Sent To Triple-A, Eli Morgan Recalled |
Cleveland Guardians starting pitching prospect Joey Cantillo is being optioned to Triple-A Columbus to make room for right-handed pitcher Eli Morgan. Cantillo made his first two starts at the major league level over the past two weeks and held a 7.36 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and a 3:7 BB:K ratio. Cantillo should get another opportunity in the big league later this summer as he performed well at Triple-A in the past with a 2.39 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. This transaction makes for Eli Morgan to return to the big leagues. Morgan has split this season, bouncing between the majors and Triple-A. In the big leagues, he has held a strong 1.98 ERA and 1.17 across 13 innings of relief. Morgan was typically deployed in the seventh inning in the past, and fantasy managers should expect him to reclaim a similar role. Morgan is worth a look in deeper leagues that score holds, as he should typically be pitching with a lead playing on a strong Guardians team. |

Sun Jul 28 2024 | 11:55 | Joey Cantillo To Make MLB Debut On Sunday |
Cleveland Guardians starting pitching prospect Joey Cantillo is being promoted from Triple-A Columbus to make his major-league debut on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 24-year-old battled a hamstring injury earlier this summer but has looked quite sharp since returning to the bump. In 29 innings at the top level of the minor leagues, the southpaw has held a 2.79 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 19:39 BB:K ratio. In his past three outings, he has carried a strong 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Cantillo could carve out a role in the Cleveland rotation especially since the Guardians are lacking a stable number five option. Cantillo is a name to keep an eye on in deeper redraft leagues going forward, but he is best to fade in DFS this afternoon as he will face one of the best lineups in baseball. |

Tue Jun 4 2024 | 09:16 | Guardians Assign Joey Cantillo To Triple-A |
After completing his rehab assignment, Cleveland Guardians pitching prospect Joey Cantillo (hamstring) has been reassigned to Triple-A Columbus. The left-hander had a nice spring before being sidelined with a strained hamstring. According to MLB Pipeline, Cantillo is the Guardians' No. 10 prospect, moving up from No. 19 in 2023. Cantillo has performed well in his professional career, but injuries have held him back. Cantillo rolled through the lower levels of the system, but had the worst ERA of his career at 4.64 for Columbus in 20 game (18 starts) last season. Cantillo has been an exciting strike-thrower for the Guardians, but he will need to maintain his health first and foremost. If he is able to stay on the hill, there is a chance he gets the call to the big leagues sometime this summer. |
