Tue Jul 2909:23Steven Kwan and Shane Bieber Could Be Traded at the Deadline
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Guardians are more likely to be sellers at the MLB Trade Deadline after the loss of closer Emmanuel Clase to non-disciplinary leave. He mentions both outfielder Steven Kwan and starting pitcher Shane Bieber (elbow) as top trade chips the team could move. Kwan is getting lots of interest with the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies, and Padres all in the mix. Kwan typically does a great job getting on base and is hitting .287 this year with nine homers, a .334 wOBA, and 11 stolen bases. He's under club control for two more seasons after this year, so the asking price is sure to be extremely high. Bieber is another interesting option for teams to consider since he's just returning from Tommy John surgery in April of 2024. He is making a rehab start in Double-A on Tuesday and is expected to be heavily scouted as teams evaluate if he can help them this year. He has a $16 million player option for 2026, which he could use to hit the open market this offseason, making him more of a short-term rental for the stretch run than a longer-term solution like Kwan.

Thu Jul 2416:22Steven Kwan Goes Deep Twice in Losing Effort
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan had the first multi-home run game of his career on Thursday in the series finale against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, but the Guardians were unable to pull off the four-game sweep in a 4-3 loss. Kwan went 2-for-4 in the contest with two solo home runs (both off Orioles starter Charlie Morton) and a walk. The 27-year-old has owned Morton so far in 2025, as the two homers off the veteran right-hander made it three on the year against him. Kwan was held out of the first three games of the second half of the season last weekend due to an injured right wrist, but he has now played in the last four games and has gone 5-for-15 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored. He seems to be past his wrist injury and could draw some interest at the trade deadline. However, with the Guards still very firmly in the mix for a wild-card spot, he's more of a long shot to be dealt.

Wed Jul 2312:05Teams Calling on Steven Kwan
The New York Post's Jon Heyman reports that many teams are calling about Cleveland Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan. The Guardians are listening on Kwan as well as some others, but it would have to be a compelling offer for them to seriously consider shipping him away. Cleveland enters play on Wednesday nine games back of the division-leading Detroit Tigers but only 2.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League. Heyman also mentions that the Guardians have a pretty soft schedule at the end of the season. Kwan was an All-Star for the second straight season this year and is currently slashing .285/.348/.393 with a .741 OPS, six home runs, 32 RBI, 44 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 94 games played. The left-handed hitter doesn't have much power, but he's one of the best contact guys in the league and sets the table nicely for Cleveland.

Mon Jul 2115:52Steven Kwan Back in Lineup on Monday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) is back in left field and is batting leadoff for Monday's series opener against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. The Guardians held Kwan out of each of the first three games of the second half from Friday through Sunday due to an injury to his right wrist. The 27-year-old is feeling better now, though, after receiving a pain-killing injection over the weekend. Kwan is hitless in three career at-bats against Sugano, but fantasy managers will want to get him back into their starting lineups for the week now that he's back. He made the All-Star team this year for the second straight season and begins the second half with a nice .285/.345/.396 slash line with a .741 OPS, six home runs, 32 RBI, 43 runs scored and 11 steals in 92 games.

Sun Jul 2011:49Steven Kwan Optimistic About Lingering Wrist Issue, Remains Out on Sunday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) received an injection for a nagging issue in his right wrist earlier this week but is "happy with the progression of it so far," according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Kwan is not in the lineup for his team's game on Sunday against the Athletics, which marks his third straight game on the bench. In 404 plate appearances, the 27-year-old has slashed .285/.345/.396 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. He remains one of the hardest hitters in MLB to punch out, posting a career-low 8.4% strikeout rate. However, Kwan struggles to generate power with a 1.8% barrel rate and 20.7% hard-hit rate. If this wrist injury continues to bother him throughout the remainder of the season, Kwan's already limited ability to impact the baseball could be even further diminished.

Sat Jul 1916:09Steven Kwan Absent Saturday
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Athletics. Kwan previously sat out Friday's game after receiving an injection in his right wrist. He remains day-to-day for now. Center fielder Angel Martinez will lead off versus Athletics right-hander Luis Severino in Kwan's stead, while Nolan Jones will handle left field and hit second. Kwan made his second All-Star team this year after slashing .285/.345/.396 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 43 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and 34:33 K:BB over 404 plate appearances in the first half of the season.

Fri Jul 1816:53Steven Kwan Receives Injection in Wrist, Considered Day-to-Day
MLB.com's Tim Stebbins reports that Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) received an injection in his right wrist on Wednesday, which is why he's out of the starting lineup to kick off the second half of the season on Friday against the Athletics. Kwan is being considered day-to-day for now. Fantasy managers will obviously want to remove him from their starting lineups on Friday and check back on Saturday to see if he's feeling good enough to return for Game 2 of the series at Progressive Field. While the 27-year-old All-Star is just day-to-day, this could turn into an injured list situation if Kwan is unable to get back onto the field this weekend. Left-handed-hitting outfielder Nolan Jones is taking over in left field for Kwan on Friday and will fifth against A's left-hander JP Sears.

Fri Jul 1816:13Steven Kwan to Get Another Day Off
Cleveland Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan will not be in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Athletics to begin the second half of the season. The Guardians will give Kwan another day off with a left-hander on the mound after he took part in the All-Star activities this week. Nolan Jones will make the start in left field and will hit fifth against A's lefty JP Sears, while center fielder Angel Martinez will bat leadoff. This will be Kwan's first day off since June 11. Jones, who also swings from the left side, won't be a popular DFS sleeper target in a lefty-lefty matchup. The 27-year-old is hitting just .229/.319/.330 with three home runs, 23 RBI, 18 runs and six steals in his 227 at-bats this year. Against lefties, he's gone 8-for-38 (.211) with none of his three homers and 14 strikeouts in 46 plate appearances.

Wed Jun 1112:58Steven Kwan Out Again Against Lefty
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan won't be in Wednesday's lineup when his team closes out its series against the visiting Cincinnati Reds. The Oregon State alum will again take a seat with left-handed hurler Nick Lodolo getting the nod, marking the second time he's sat against a southpaw in a week. He hasn't necessarily been bad against them, batting .260 (20-for-77) with four doubles on the season. However, Kwan was 0-for-7 over the last two contests as the Reds ran out lefties to the mound. The benching could be in response to his slight slump, as he has just six hits in 27 June at-bats (.222). Teammate Lane Thomas will occupy the leadoff spot, with fellow outfielder Nolan Jones handling left-field duties.

Fri Jun 618:23Steven Kwan Out Against Lefty
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Houston Astros at Progressive Field. Daniel Schneemann will get the start in left field and will bat fifth against Astros rookie left-hander Colton Gordon. Kwan doesn't hold much power but is still one of the best table-setters and contact men in the game, but he's struggled of late and went 7-for-32 (.219) with a homer, three RBI and a stolen base in his last nine games played. The 27-year-old is still hitting a strong .306 (72-for-235) on the year for fantasy managers with five homers, 21 RBI, 30 runs and eight steals. Schneemann will be a deep DFS sleeper while replacing Kwan. He has hit .200 (4-for-20) in limited at-bats against lefties this year, and all seven of his long balls have come off righties.

Fri May 3016:18Steven Kwan Returns Against Angels
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) is back in left field and hitting in his usual leadoff spot in the batting order for Friday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano at Progressive Field. Kwan is ready to go despite being removed early from Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with inflammation in his right wrist. It helped that Cleveland had an off day for travel on Thursday. Now back in the lineup, fantasy managers should get the 27-year-old back in their starting lineups this weekend. Kwan has minimal power but rarely strikes out and is an excellent table-setter for the Guardians' lineup. He enters Friday's game slashing .311/.371/.425 with a .795 OPS, four homers, 19 RBI, 28 runs and seven stolen bases. He has one hit in four career at-bats versus Soriano.

Wed May 2815:05Steven Kwan Leaves Early on Wednesday With Wrist Inflammation
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) was removed from Wednesday's series finale early against the Los Angeles Dodgers before the fourth inning due to right-wrist inflammation. Before departing prematurely, Kwan was hitless in his two plate appearances as the leadoff hitter for Cleveland. The 27-year-old was replaced in left field by Nolan Jones. The good news for Kwan is that the Guardians are off on Thursday for a travel day before beginning a three-game series on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. It's unclear how serious Kwan's injury is, but fantasy managers should check back on Friday for an update on his status. Kwan has very little power but came into Wednesday's game hitting .314 (66-for-210). Jones could see regular playing time going forward with both Kwan and Lane Thomas (foot) injured.

Sun May 2512:01Steven Kwan Sits Out of Sunday's Game
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan was left out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park with tough left-hander Tarik Skubal on the mound. Nolan Jones made the start in left field and was in the nine-hole for Sunday's matinee affair. This is Kwan's first day off of the 2025 season. The 27-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder has hit a strong .322/.378/.442 with an .820 OPS, four home runs, 18 RBI, 28 runs scored and seven stolen bases in his first 199 at-bats over 50 games played. Kwan doesn't have much power, but he can provide everywhere else for fantasy managers and is a must-start whenever he's in the lineup. Jones came into Sunday's game hitting just .179 (21-for-117) with only two homers on the season, including going hitless with seven strikeouts in 15 plate appearances against lefties.

Mon Apr 2112:12Steven Kwan Blasts Fourth Homer
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan went 1-for-4 with two RBI and his fourth home run in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He added a run scored and one walk. Kwan took Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller deep over the right-field wall in the top of the third inning to put Cleveland up 2-0. It'd be his only hit of the contest, but the 27-year-old is batting a robust .325 (27-for-83) with 14 RBI, 14 runs scored, and two doubles. Despite not walking much, he again holds a strong 10.9% strikeout rate. If Kwan can stay healthy all year, he's currently on pace to smash his personal best of 14 home runs, which he set a year ago. It seems unlikely that he'll hit that lofty total, but his fourth homer wasn't launched until June last season.

Wed Apr 1608:34Steven Kwan Homers In Impressive Showing Against Baltimore
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan continued his strong start to the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's victory. Kwan's blast in the fifth inning, which left the bat at 102.3 mph and traveled 380 feet, was his third home run of the season. He reached base three times on the night and is now slashing .333/.391/.492 with a .362 wOBA over 63 at-bats. Kwan will look to maintain his high level of production as the Guardians aim to secure a series win in Baltimore on Wednesday.

Thu Apr 1019:08Steven Kwan Tallies Four Hits, Four RBI In Win Over White Sox
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan was quite the table-setter in Thursday's 6-1 win over the division-rival Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field, going 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, two runs scored and four RBI. The home run was his second of the season, and the big day at the plate raised his season average to .356 and his OPS to a strong .931. The 27-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder now has 11 runs scored and seven RBI in his first 51 plate appearances of the 2025 campaign. Although Kwan hit a career-high 14 home runs as a first-time All-Star for the Guardians last year, he shouldn't be considered a lock to repeat double-digit home runs again in 2025. Still, he's proven to be an elite contact hitter and should provide double-digit stolen bases as long as he stays healthy.

Mon Apr 714:44Steven Kwan Opens The 2025 Season With A High Average
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan went 1-for-4 on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels and is now batting .353 in the 2025 season on 38 plate appearances. Although the Guardians lost two of three games to the Angels over the weekend, leadoff hitter Kwan is off to a hot start to begin his 2025 campaign. Kwan is slashing .353/.405/.471 with one home run, eight runs scored, and three RBI. Kwan has had 12 or more stolen bases over the past three seasons, so fantasy managers can expect him to steal more bases as the season progresses. Although his lack of power limits fantasy production, Kwan remains a reliable points league outfielder and helps carry a high average in category leagues. Next up for Kwan is a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox at home, where he will look to continue to lead the Guardians' offense by batting at the top of the order.

Thu Jan 919:20Steven Kwan, Guardians Avoid Arbitration
According to Mandy Bell of MLB.com, the Cleveland Guardians and outfielder Steven Kwan have agreed to a one-year contract worth $4.175 million to avoid arbitration. In 2024, Steven Kwan enjoyed the best season of his career as he posted a .292/.368/.425 line. He launched a career-best 14 home runs. He also swiped double-digit bags for the third straight campaign. This was a nice bounce-back compared to the .268/.340./.370 line he held in 2023. Last summer, he generated an impressive .284 xBA, which placed him in the 94th percentile among qualified hitters. In addition, the 27-year-old showed a great eye at the plate with a 9.4% K rate, 8.2% whiff rate, and 19.2% chase rate, which placed him within the 96th percentile among qualified hitters. Despite his lack of power, Kwan remains a top pick for batting average, given his elite contact skills.

Wed Oct 16 202400:20Steven Kwan Extends Hit Streak To Seven Games In Loss
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALCS. Kwan has now hit safely in each of the seven postseason games that the Guardians have played, slashing .448/.500/.483 over that time. Unfortunately, so far in the ALCS, it has yet to translate into wins with Cleveland now facing a 2-0 deficit as they head back home for Game 3 on Thursday. Clarke Schmidt is slated to start for the Yankees and Kwan is 4-for-8 off of the righty in his career, so look for the 27-year-old to get the home crowd into it early as they try to claw their way back in the series.

Wed Sep 25 202416:28Steven Kwan Activated And Starting On Wednesday
The Cleveland Guardians activated outfielder Steven Kwan (back) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, and he is starting in left field and batting leadoff against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Jakob Junis at Progressive Field. The Guardians have to be happy to get one of their best hitters back in the lineup at the tail end of the regular season before the playoffs kick off next week. The 27-year-old has been sidelined with inflammation in his back since the middle of September. He has hit a strong .291/.364/.419 with a .783 OPS, 13 home runs, 43 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 475 at-bats in 2024, but Kwan hasn't looked as good since the All-Star break. He is currently riding a four-game hitting streak, but he also went 6-for-36 (.167) with two RBI, nine walks and eight strikeouts in 10 games in the month of September before going on the IL.
