Wed Sep 1016:53Miguel Vargas Reinstated and Starting on Wednesday
The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas (hand) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Vargas is back at third base and will hit sixth in his return on Wednesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Griffin Jax. The 25-year-old has been out for two weeks with a left-hand sprain, but now that he's back, he should be a lineup regular for the Pale Hose the rest of the way in 2025. In his first full year in the Windy City, Vargas has slashed .234/.315/.404 at the plate with a .719 OPS, a career-high 14 home runs, 52 RBI, 69 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 121 games played. The Cuban infielder was hitting better in August before his hand injury, batting .281 (16-for-57) with a homer, five doubles, and eight RBI in 16 games.

Fri Aug 2916:17White Sox Place Miguel Vargas on Injured List With Hand Sprain
The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they placed infielder Miguel Vargas (hand) on the 10-day injured list with a left-hand sprain and recalled rookie first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. With Vargas heading to the IL, Curtis Mead will make the start at third in Friday's contest against the visiting New York Yankees and will bat fifth against left-hander Carlos Rodon. Vargas injured his hand in Thursday night's loss to New York when he was involved in a collision at first base. With Chicago's season practically already over, fantasy managers shouldn't be holding out hope that the 25-year-old will return before the end of the season. The Cuban infielder does have a career-high 14 home runs in his first full season on the South Side, but he's also hit a pedestrian .234/.315/.404 with 52 RBI, 69 runs and four steals in 121 games.

Fri Aug 2910:01Miguel Vargas Leaves Thursday With a Wrist Contusion
Chicago White Sox utility man Miguel Vargas left Thursday's game with a left wrist contusion. He will undergo further testing today, the Chicago White Sox report. Vargas attempted to field an errant throw at first base and collided with Aaron Judge, injuring his wrist in the process. While the initial diagnosis is a contusion, Vargas will undergo further imaging, and all indications point towards a trip to the injured list; however, at this time, he is considered day-to-day. Vargas has been solid for the White Sox lately, slashing .286/.444/.571 over his last seven days. Michael Taylor entered the game for Vargas after he left. Fantasy managers who are in a tight playoff race will likely want to move on from Vargas, as he was a streamer bat at best in most formats.

Thu Aug 2822:23Miguel Vargas Exits with Wrist Injury
Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas (wrist) was forced to make an early exit from Thursday's game against the New York Yankees. Vargas was attempting to make a catch at first base when Yankees' outfielder Aaron Judge ran into his arm which bent back his wrist. Vargas exited the contest and finished the game 1-for-2 with a home run and four RBI. The team is calling the injury a wrist contusion, but Vargas is likely going to undergo further imaging. For now, fantasy managers should consider Vargas as day-to-day. Curtis Mead moved over to first base and could see increased time at the cold corner if Vargas is forced to miss time.

Tue Aug 1217:20Miguel Vargas Reinstated and Starting Against Tigers
The Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, the team announced. Vargas is starting at first base and is batting sixth in Tuesday's contest against the division-rival Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty. The 25-year-old miss the minimum of 10 days due to a minor oblique strain, and he'll be hoping to continue swinging a hot bat after he had an .874 OPS in 13 games since the All-Star break. Overall, though, the Cuban infielder has hit a very mediocre .229/.305/.402 on the season with a .707 OPS, 13 home runs, 44 RBI, 57 runs and four stolen bases in his 393 at-bats. There's not a ton of fantasy upside here, especially in DFS. Vargas has faced Flaherty 10 times in his career and has two hits.

Mon Aug 1121:27Miguel Vargas Takes Batting Practice
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas (oblique) took batting practice on Monday, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He reportedly felt very good after the fact and is hopeful to return to the roster without a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since August 1 with an oblique strain, so it looks like he could return with missing almost the minimum amount of time. The youngster has been starting to find himself at the plate and establish himself at the big league level with everyday playing time in Chicago, tallying 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and 57 runs in 106 games.

Sun Aug 313:46Miguel Vargas Placed on 10-Day Injured List
The Chicago White Sox announced that they have placed infielder Miguel Vargas (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique, retroactive to Aug. 2. The club recalled infielder Curtis Mead from Triple-A Charlotte to take Vargas' roster spot. The 25-year-old Vargas is one of the few White Sox to put up decent numbers over a large sample of work this season. He's hitting .229/.305/.402 with 13 homers, 44 RBI, 57 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 439 plate appearances. Defensively, Vargas has divided his time between the two corner infield positions. The White Sox started Lenyn Sosa at first and Brooks Baldwin at third in his absence on Saturday, and they'll do the same Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Sun Aug 309:04Miguel Vargas Dealing with Oblique Issue
Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas (oblique) was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. He was slated to start at first base, but pulled out of the lineup due to an oblique issue. The expectation is that Vargas will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider Vargas as day-to-day. Lenyn Sosa moved over to first base in place of Vargas. He could see a few more starts over at the cold corner if Vargas misses a few games.

Fri Jun 1307:07Miguel Vargas Doubles Twice, Triples in Loss to Houston
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas had a big day in his team's 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros on Thursday. Vargas went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, a walk, and two runs scored in the one-run loss. The veteran has been a productive bat for the Sox this season, hitting .242 with 17 doubles, one triple, nine homers, 32 runs, 30 RBI, and two stolen bases across 240 at-bats. After hitting under .200 in each of his previous three seasons, this season's modest breakout is a welcome sight for Vargas and fantasy gamers. He has worked his way into the conversation as a viable reserve corner infield option in most fantasy leagues.

Wed May 2806:24Miguel Vargas Homers in Loss to Mets
Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas had a big night in his team's 6-4 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday. Vargas went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, and three RBI in the loss. The veteran infielder plated the first runs of the game with his two-run homer off Mets starter Tylor Megill in the first inning. He later came back and added an RBI double in the seventh inning. Vargas is now hitting .244 with 14 doubles, eight homers, 24 runs, 26 RBI, and one steal as one of the few bright spots in the Chicago batting order this season. He has been on a tear of late, with six homers and 14 RBI over his past 15 contests.

Fri May 1621:53Miguel Vargas Homers Twice in Loss
Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas came out of the gate slowly, but has been crushing the ball over the last two weeks or so. On Friday, Vargas continued his hot streak at the plate during their Crosstown matchup against the Chicago Cubs. Vargas crushed a two-run home run off right-hander Cade Horton to open the game. He got Horton again in the third inning, but this time it was a solo shot. Vargas finished his day 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in the loss. Vargas is hitting .351 with five homers and 13 RBI over his last 20 games. He's going to be a popular waiver wire pickup with the way he has been swinging the bat lately.

Wed May 1410:10Miguel Vargas Homers, Drives In Three Vs. Reds
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in his team's 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. He also doubled and scored twice. The Cuban native played hero on Tuesday for the Pale Hose, providing valuable insurance late in the outing. He came up to bat in the bottom of the tenth with two on after teammate Chase Meidroth singled home Brooks Baldwin the batter before -- giving them a 2-1 lead. Then, Vargas sent Emilio Pagan's first-pitch fastball 373 feet to left field to add on three insurance runs. It was his third homer of 2025. On the season, the 25-year-old holds an uninspiring .221 average, but has been much better over the past few weeks. In that time (17 games), he's batting .327 (20-for-61) with seven extra-base hits (three HRs, four doubles), ten runs scored, and nine RBI.

Tue May 1315:39Luis Robert Jr., Miguel Vargas Back From Their Injuries
Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. (knee) and third baseman Miguel Vargas (calf) are both back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game on the road in Cincinnati against the Reds and left-hander Andrew Abbott. Robert is starting in center field and batting cleanup, while Vargas is at the hot corner and in the two-hole for the White Sox. Robert missed the team's last two games with soreness in his right knee but is back in there against the Reds after the team's off day on Monday. The 27-year-old Cuban slugger is hitting under .200 on the season but has been better in May and has 15 stolen bases in 129 at-bats. He has never faced Abbott, but he's hitting .273 (9-for-33) with two of his five homers against southpaws this year, making him more attractive in DFS on Tuesday. Vargas is in a good lineup spot but has done little to earn fantasy managers' trust this year with a .215 average and only two homers.

Sun May 1113:33Miguel Vargas Dealing With Ankle And Calf Injuries
Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas (calf/ankle) is dealing with a calf and ankle issue. Vinnie Duber noted that the infielder is available off the bench. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status as Vargas could be cleared to return to the starting nine prior to Tuesday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds. Before going 0-for-6 over his last two contests, the 25-year-old was enjoying a productive surge at the plate. Over his last 14 contests, Vargas posted an impressive .360/.448/.540 slash line with three doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. However, under the hood, the infielder has generated a low .297 xwOBA with .221 xBA, which suggests he could face some regression later in the season. This afternoon, Josh Rojas will cover the hot corner and bat in the two-hole.

Fri May 209:57Miguel Vargas Goes Deep, Drives In Three On Thursday
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning on Thursday against Craig Yoho to give the White Sox a comfortable 4-0 lead over the Milwaukee Brewers as they held on to win 9-0 in the ballgame and get their eighth win of the season. Vargas has been tearing it up at the plate lately, slashing .455/.520/.636 over his last seven days. On the season, he is now up to .222/.311/.333 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and 12 runs scored. Vargas began the season batting at the top of the order, but after a slow start, he's been batting towards the bottom half. Should he continue this production level, White Sox Manager Will Venable may need to consider moving him back to the top of the lineup, which will only increase Vargas' value down the stretch. Next up for Vargas and the White Sox is a three-game home series against the Houston Astros.

Fri Apr 2509:53Miguel Vargas Homers Against The Twins On Thursday
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas blasted his first home run of the season in the sixth inning to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead over the Twins in their victory on Thursday. The game was final after seven innings due to weather, but the win for the White Sox salvaged them from getting swept by the Twins in their three-game series. Vargas has been struggling this season, slashing .163/.258/.256 with nine runs scored and seven RBI. For now, he continues to occupy third base for the White Sox and bats towards the bottom of the order. In over four seasons in the MLB, Vargas is a career .173 hitter, so it's challenging to continue to trust Vargas in any fantasy formats. Up next for the White Sox is a three-game series in Sacramento to take on the Athletics.

Fri Mar 2809:42Miguel Vargas Tallies Two Hits In Season Opener
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas had an excellent game on Thursday to kick off the 2025 regular season. He went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels. What is most encouraging for fantasy managers is that he was slotted in the leadoff spot in the batting order and had a successful audition in this contest, which will help keep him in that role moving forward. With Luis Robert Jr. batting behind him in the two spot in the order, Vargas will have plenty of opportunities to score runs should he stay at the top of the order. The White Sox are off on Friday, but Vargas will look to stay hot in this series once they are back in action to finish the three-game series with the Angels on Saturday and Sunday.

Tue Sep 17 202400:42White Sox Prioritizing Playing Time For Bryan Ramos, Miguel Vargas
Chicago White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore said he doesn't have a set plan for third baseman Yoan Moncada, who returned from a lengthy stint on the injured list on Monday. Sizemore said the team is going to prioritize seeing infielders Bryan Ramos and Miguel Vargas at the tail end of the 2024 season. Moncada has been out since straining his groin in early April, so it makes sense for the White Sox to ease him back in while giving more run to Ramos and Vargas late in the year. In Monday's game in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, Vargas got the start at the hot corner, with Ramos serving as the designated hitter. Ramos, 22, has hit just over the Mendoza Line with two homers, five RBI and 14 K's in his first 22 big-league games in 2024. Vargas, 24, has had a rough year at the plate this year and is hitting just .112 (11-for-98) with a homer and five RBI in 31 games since being acquired from the Dodgers.

Sat Sep 7 202416:00Miguel Vargas Returns To Starting Nine
Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas (eye) is returning to the starting nine on Saturday afternoon and will bat in the eight-hole. Vargas has been kept out of the lineup for the past two games with an eye abrasion that was caused by a collision on September 3. In his past eight games, the 24-year-old has held a .200/.333/.300 line with just four total hits. Fantasy managers should expect Vargas to continue to serve as the everyday second baseman for the remainder of the regular season on the Southside. Vargas does have a favorable matchup this afternoon against Boston right-hander Cooper Criswell who carries a 4.14 ERA but is best to leave off your DFS lineup.

Wed Aug 21 202415:18Miguel Vargas Sitting Against Giants
Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas is out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for the series finale at Oracle Park against the San Francisco Giants. With Vargas on the bench, Lenyn Sosa will start at third base and will bat seventh against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Vargas, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline in late July in the trade that sent right-hander Jack Flaherty to LA, could find himself on the bench more often if he continues to slump at the plate. The 24-year-old Cuban has gone just 5-for-54 (.093) with a homer, double, three RBI and 17 strikeouts in 16 games with a bigger role in his move to Chicago. Overall this year, he's hit just .176/.271/.312 with four home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored in 125 at-bats. Vargas is losing his fantasy appeal in AL-only leagues quickly.
