Sun Jul 2716:36Keegan Akin Scheduled to Return Monday
Baltimore Orioles left-handed reliever Keegan Akin (shoulder) is set to come off the 15-day injured list on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Akin dealt with inflammation in his left shoulder, which has kept him out since June 30. Before landing on the shelf, the 30-year-old recorded a 3.32 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB over 38 innings. Now that he's healthy again, Akin may draw interest from teams looking for bullpen help before Thursday's trade deadline. The out-of-contention Orioles have already shown a willingness to part with veteran relievers, having traded Bryan Baker and Gregory Soto in recent weeks.

Wed Jul 2319:45Keegan Akin Moving on up in His Rehab
Baltimore Orioles left-hander Keegan Akin (shoulder) began his rehab assignment at the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday. He is expected to have a few rehab outings before being activated from the injured list. His rehab assignment has now been moved to Triple-A Norfolk as he continues to work his way back from left shoulder inflammation. Before his injury, the lefty owned a 3.32 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 39 innings and could see an expanded role if the Orioles are sellers at the trade deadline. Baltimore could activate Akin soon to showcase him before the MLB trade deadline next Thursday.

Sun Jul 1310:17Keegan Akin to Face Hitters Monday
Baltimore Orioles left-handed reliever Keegan Akin (shoulder) will face hitters Monday before beginning a potential rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Akin has been on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation since July 1. The Orioles had to shut him down from throwing earlier this week after he received an injection in his shoulder, but he's now progressing toward a return. The 30-year-old has gone 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, 38:16 K:BB, and 12 holds over 38 innings.

Thu Jul 1008:46Keegan Akin Gets Injection in Shoulder
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Keegan Akin (shoulder) will likely go on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, but the 30-year-old lefty has been shut down for the next five to seven days after receiving an injection in his shoulder. Akin has been on the 15-day injured list since July 2 after going 3-0 in his 39 games for the O's with a 3.32 ERA and 4.30 FIP. The lefty has made a few starts this season as an opener and has been a fairly versatile piece out of the bullpen for Baltimore over the past few seasons. He still has one more year of team control, becoming a free agent after the 2026 season. He could be a name to watch at the trade deadline if the Orioles sell off parts, but he'll need to prove he's healthy and over this shoulder issue first.

Thu Jul 309:05Keegan Akin Lands on the Injured List
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Keegan Akin (shoulder) was placed on the injured list on Wednesday with left shoulder inflammation. The 30-year-old lefty has appeared in 39 games for the Orioles this season, spanning 38 innings with a 3.32 ERA, 4.30 FIP, 1.42 WHIP, and 23.3% strikeout rate. Akin's WHIP is up this season, and his strikeout rate is down after a strong 2024. He has worked as an opener for a few games this season but will now be sidelined through at least the All-Star break. Right-handed reliever Yennier Cano was recalled from Norfolk to take Akin's place in the bullpen.

Thu Jun 1213:20Keegan Akin to Open on Thursday, Dean Kremer Set for Bulk Relief
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer, who was originally scheduled to start on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers, will not start, according to the team. Instead, the O's will go with left-hander Keegan Akin as an opener. While Kremer won't start this one at Camden Yards, he's expected to serve as the bulk reliever. In both of Akin's opening assignments this year, he's gone a total of 2 2/3 innings, so he won't be a realistic streaming option for fantasy managers, especially against the first-place Tigers. Overall, he's posted a solid 2.89 ERA (3.87 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28 innings pitched. Kremer has an ERA just south of 5.00 on the season and allowed five earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out three in 5 2/3 innings in a loss the first time he faced Detroit back on April 27.

Fri Aug 23 202413:01Keegan Akin Back From Paternity Leave
The Baltimore Orioles reinstated left-hander Keegan Akin from the paternity list on Friday and optioned left-hander Nick Vespi to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Akin will return to the team after being away for the last three days for the birth of his child. The 29-year-old southpaw will return to Baltimore's bullpen this weekend for the remainder of their series against the Houston Astros at Camden Yards. The former second-round selection in 2016 out of Western Michigan has already appeared in a career-high 51 games (all in relief) for the O's in 2024 and has gone 2-0 with a 3.52 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 0.95 WHIP and 78:16 K:BB in 64 innings. Akin has been much better than his 3.52 ERA would indicate and will now return to a key role in Baltimore's bullpen.

Mon Sep 6 202111:49Keegan Akin Gives Up Grand Slam Sunday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin faltered after a string of successful starts in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. Akin pitched just 4 innings, allowing four runs on three hits (including a grand slam) and two walks with five strikeouts. The 26-year-old has pitched better lately but still owns a 7.00 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the season. His next start will be a tougher one against the Blue Jays at home. Fantasy managers should stay away from Akin despite his good recent starts.

Wed Sep 1 202101:04Keegan Akin Earns Second Consecutive Win Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin picked up his second win of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jays. Akin pitched 5 innings, allowing one run on two hits (including a solo home run) and three walks with five strikeouts. The 26-year-old has now strung together two solid starts, but his season ERA still sits at an unsightly 6.90. His next start will be a decent matchup against the Royals at home, but fantasy managers should not go anywhere near him with the fantasy playoffs starting.

Fri Aug 27 202110:10Keegan Akin Pitches Rare Gem Thursday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin found his groove in Thursday's 13-1 win over the Angels. Akin pitched 7 innings, allowing one run on three hits (including a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani) and two walks with six strikeouts. It was the first start all season for Akin in which he pitched 6 innings, let alone 7 and was his first win of the season. It was nice to see him find success, but Akin is now 1-8 on the season with a 7.26 ERA and 1.70 WHIP, so fantasy managers should not expect routine performance like this from him. His next start will be a tough one at the Blue Jays.

Sat Aug 21 202101:33Keegan Akin Takes Eighth Loss Against Atlanta
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin remained winless Friday, taking his eighth loss of the season against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings, striking out three batters along the way. He gave up two home runs. Akin sports a 7.92 ERA and 1.81 WHIP for the year, so it's hard to say he's been unlucky in the wins department. He'll continue to get opportunities in the Orioles rotation, but he should be far from fantasy rosters.

Mon Aug 16 202111:41Keegan Akin Takes Another Loss Sunday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin fell to 0-7 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox. Akin pitched 4 innings, allowing three runs on six hits (including a three-run home run) and three walks with two strikeouts. Nothing has gone right for Akin this season, as he has an 8.13 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over 58 2/3 IP. His next matchup will be a tough one against the Braves at home, but fantasy managers already know to steer well clear of Akin in all leagues.
