Fri Jul 2509:38Josh Naylor Expected to Join the Mariners on Friday
Newly acquired Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor is expected to join the Mariners on Friday in Anaheim, MLB.com's Daniel Kramer reports. The Mariners acquired Naylor on Thursday, July 24, as they look to keep pace with the Houston Astros in the AL West. As it stands today, they are currently sitting five games back in the division and are in the driver's seat in the AL Wild Card race, as they sit half a game ahead. Naylor has enjoyed his time in Arizona in 2025, where he's slashed .292/.360/.447 with 11 home runs, 49 runs scored, 59 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. Naylor coming to town will likely push Luke Raley and Donovan Solano to a bench role, as he's expected to have an everyday role with this Mariners lineup. He will likely bat fourth or fifth in the lineup, behind Julio Rodriguez, J.P. Crawford, and Cal Raleigh, which will provide him with plenty of opportunities to continue to produce for a team pushing for the playoffs. Naylor continues to be a top first baseman to deploy in all fantasy formats.

Fri Jul 2500:34Ashton Izzi Included in Josh Naylor Deal
The Seattle Mariners traded pitching prospects Ashton Izzi and Brandyn Garcia to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for first baseman Josh Naylor. The right-hander has started 12 games at High-A this year and has struggled a bit with a 5.51 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, with a better 15.2 percent strikeout-minus walk-rate in 47.1 innings. The 21-year-old had better surface-level results at Low-A in 2024 with a 2.85 ERA. Izzi owns a wide five-pitch mix with a four-seam, sinker, slider, sweeper, and changeup. He's able to get great extension down the mound at 7 feet with a 5.8' release height. The slider is his best chase and whiff pitch, and his strike-throwing will be an area to watch for his development.

Fri Jul 2500:16Brandyn Garcia Sent To Arizona in Josh Naylor Trade
Seattle Mariners left-handed pitching prospect Brandyn Garcia was included in a trade package along with right-handed pitcher Ashton Izzi for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor on Thursday night. Garcia has split time between Double-A and Triple-A in a relief role this year, totaling a 3.51 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 16.8 percent strikeout-minus-walk percent between the two levels. The 25-year-old made two appearances in the majors this week against Milwaukee and had mixed results. He had a rough debut, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with no strikeouts in an inning on Monday. Then he pitched a cleaner inning in relief on Wednesday, with no runs and two walks, and a strikeout. The lefty boasts a three-pitch mix, featuring a sinker that sits at 97 MPH. He complements it with a cutter and sweeper, and he consistently pounds the strike zone, as well as producing plenty of weak contact on the ground. He projects as a solid reliever with a foundational fastball in his new home in Arizona.

Thu Jul 2420:46Josh Naylor Traded to Seattle
The Seattle Mariners have acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for left-handed pitching prospect Brandyn Garcia and right-handed pitching prospect Ashton Izzi. With the Diamondbacks falling out of the Wild Card race, several of their top hitters have been linked to competing rosters, including Naylor and third baseman Eugenio Suarez. The Diamondbacks acquired Naylor in the offseason via a trade with the Cleveland Guardians that sent right-hander Slade Cecconi to Cleveland. Naylor enjoyed a productive tenure in the desert as he posted a strong .292/.360/.447 slash line with 19 doubles and 11 home runs. Naylor scored 49 runs and tacked on 59 RBIs. Under the hood, he generated an elite .288 xBA with an above-average .350 xwOBA. In Seattle, Naylor should continue to see everyday at-bats, which will push Luke Raley and ... [More]

Thu Jul 316:12Josh Naylor Getting a Day Off on Thursday
After returning to the starting lineup on Wednesday after dealing with some neck soreness, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor is getting the day off in Thursday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants with left-hander Robbie Ray on the mound. Rookie Tim Tawa is starting at first base and is batting eighth for the Snakes. After missing four straight games with a neck injury, Naylor returned on Wednesday and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in an extra-innings loss. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate this summer after slashing a strong .303/.357/.471 with an .828 OPS, 10 home runs, 54 RBI, 42 runs and 10 steals in his 297 at-bats in his first year in the desert. Tawa has two hits in just three plate appearances against Ray.

Wed Jul 219:31Josh Naylor Returning to Diamondbacks Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) is serving as the designated hitter and will bat cleanup on Wednesday against the division-rival San Francisco Giants and right-hander Landen Roupp. Pavin Smith will make another start at first base and bat third for Arizona. Naylor was in the original lineup on Tuesday before being scratched and missing his fourth straight game due to lingering soreness in his neck. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger will give it another go on Wednesday, though. Naylor's 10 homers for a first baseman leave plenty to be desired, but he hit .311/.366/.486 with three homers, 16 RBI and 12 runs in the month of June and is hitting .304 (89-for-293) on the year with 53 RBI, 42 runs and 10 steals in his first year with the Snakes. Nine of his 10 homers on the year have come against righties. Get him back into your starting lineups.

Tue Jul 120:39Josh Naylor Scratched From Tuesday's Lineup Against Giants
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival San Francisco Giants. Naylor was originally in Tuesday's lineup against Giants right-hander Hayden Birdsong as the designated hitter, but he'll now miss his fourth straight game due to neck stiffness that he's been dealing with. Pavin Smith is playing first base and batting third, while Randal Grichuk will serve as the DH and hit out of the six-hole on Tuesday. The D-backs are likely exercising an abundance of caution, but if Naylor suffered a setback or is dealing with another injury, we'll pass it along when we know. Check back on Wednesday to see if Naylor can finally return to action for the third game of a four-game series in the desert. In addition to a neck injury, Naylor was pulled out of a game early last week with a shoulder injury.

Tue Jul 119:27Josh Naylor Back in Action on Tuesday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) is serving as the designated hitter and will bat cleanup for Tuesday's contest against the division-rival San Francisco Giants and right-hander Hayden Birdsong at Chase Field. Naylor has had several injury issues in the last week, most recently neck stiffness keeping him out for the last three games. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is feeling better now, though, and will return for Game 2 of the series against San Fran. Pavin Smith will get the start at first base. Fantasy managers will want to get Naylor back in starting fantasy lineups now that he's back. The Canadian first baseman is hitting over .300 in his first year in the desert, including batting .330 (67-for-203) with nine of his 10 home runs against right-handers. Naylor has a hit and an RBI in only three career at-bats against Birdsong.

Mon Jun 3018:29Josh Naylor Remains Sidelined on Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants. This marks the third game in a row that Naylor has missed due to neck spasms. This doesn't seem like an issue that would land Naylor on the injured list. For now, fantasy managers should consider Naylor as day-to-day until further notice. In the meantime, Pavin Smith will cover first base and bat third versus right-hander Logan Webb on Monday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Naylor sidelined once again.

Mon Jun 3009:10Josh Naylor Misses Second Game in a Row With a Neck Injury
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) was out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Naylor was unable to play for the second consecutive day due to neck stiffness, and in his absence, Pavin Smith has been playing first base. It was a tough week for Naylor, as he had dealt with a shoulder injury earlier in the week, returned to the lineup for a few games, and then re-injured himself Friday night against the Marlins. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Naylor is "improving." Still, he is considered day-to-day, and fantasy managers will want to continue monitoring his latest injury. Naylor has had a nice season thus far, slashing .304/.359/.474 with 10 home runs, 53 RBI, 42 runs, and 10 stolen bases.

Sat Jun 2809:00Josh Naylor Exits Friday's Contest Early with Neck Stiffness
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (neck) exited Friday's 9-8 loss to the Marlins before the seventh inning due to neck stiffness, according to manager Torey Lovullo. For now, the 2024 All-Star should be considered day-to-day, although he likely will not be in Arizona's lineup on Saturday. The 28-year-old is having a productive first season with the D-backs, hitting .304 with 10 home runs, 53 RBI, 42 runs scored, and 10 steals with a .361 wOBA and 130 wRC+, so hopefully he can get back out there soon.

Wed Jun 2523:23Josh Naylor Goes Yard in Multi-Hit Game
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor smacked his 10th home run of the season in a 7-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Naylor, returning from a one-game absence because of a minor shoulder injury, made his presence felt immediately with a two-run blast off right-hander Sean Burke in the first inning. The Diamondbacks had little else to celebrate after that, but Naylor added a single and a walk in a 2-for-3 afternoon. While Naylor is not on pace to approach his 2024 HR total of 31, this has still been another productive season for the 28-year-old. He's slashing .307/.363/.479 with 53 RBI, 42 runs scored, 10 steals, and an excellent 12.9% strikeout rate over 321 plate appearances.

Wed Jun 2513:04Josh Naylor Back in Wednesday's Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) is back at first base and is hitting cleanup for Wednesday's series finale in Chicago against the White Sox and right-hander Sean Burke. Naylor injured his right shoulder on a swing in Monday's win over the White Sox and was then scratched from Tuesday's lineup as a result. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is feeling better now, though, and should be returned to all starting fantasy lineups. Naylor has faced Burke just once in his career and picked up a hit. Although fantasy managers would prefer more power from the former Cleveland Guardians first baseman, they can't complain otherwise, as the Canadian has hit .303/.358/.467 on the year with an .824 OPS, nine homers, 51 RBI, 41 runs and 10 stolen bases. The D-backs will need more production from him with Corbin Carroll (wrist) going on the injured list this week.

Tue Jun 2419:08Josh Naylor Scratched From Tuesday's Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday against the hosting Chicago White Sox. Naylor was pulled from Monday's series-opening win early due after tweaking his right shoulder on an aggressive swing. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger was initially included in Tuesday's starting lineup before being scratched, and Pavin Smith will now take over at first and bat third against White Sox right-handed opener Jordan Leasure. The fact that Naylor was initially in the lineup on Tuesday means he shouldn't need a trip to the injured list, but it's unclear if he'll be back on Wednesday. The Canadian's name has been floating around as a potential trade option this summer after hitting a strong .303/.358/.467 with an .824 OPS, nine homers, 51 RBI and 10 stolen bases in his first year with the Snakes.

Tue Jun 2413:10Josh Naylor Returns to Starting Nine
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) is returning to the team's lineup for their meeting with the hosting Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reported the news. Naylor exited Monday's matchup early when he showed some discomfort after taking a hack at the dish. However, it appears to be a minor tweak as he'll reenter the starting nine a day later. The Canadian native is batting a cool .303 through 75 appearances in 2025, with nine homers, ten swipes, 51 RBI, and 41 runs scored.

Tue Jun 2413:05Josh Naylor Will be in Tuesday's Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) will be in the starting lineup as the team continues their series in Chicago against the White Sox and right-handed opener Jordan Leasure, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro. Naylor injured his right shoulder on an aggressive swing during Monday's series-opening win over the White Sox, but it turned out to be nothing serious and he'll return the very next day. It's good news for a D-backs club that will place star outfielder Corbin Carroll (hand) on the 10-day injured list and had third baseman Eugenio Suarez (hand) leave Monday's game early after being hit by a pitch. The 28-year-old Naylor has only nine home runs in 287 at-bats, but fantasy managers can't complain about his .303 average, .824 OPS, 51 RBI, 41 runs or 10 stolen bases in his first year in Arizona.

Mon Jun 2322:12Josh Naylor Leaves Monday With Shoulder Discomfort
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) left Monday's contest against the Chicago White Sox early with right-shoulder discomfort and is considered day-to-day, according to the team. Naylor looked to be in pain after an aggressive swing in the top of the second inning and was replaced at first base by rookie Tim Tawa. Before leaving, the 28-year-old left-handed slugger went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a strikeout. Third baseman Eugenio Suarez (hand) also left this game after being hit on the hand by a pitch, but X-rays came back negative. The D-backs will likely send Naylor for an MRI exam to rule out any structural damage, and if he were to miss extended time, Pavin Smith would become the starting first baseman. Although he has only nine homers, Naylor has swung the bat well in his first season in the season in the desert, entering Monday with a .303 average, 49 RBI and 10 steals.

Thu Jun 1900:33Diamondbacks Could Move Josh Naylor at the Trade Deadline
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand speculates that the Arizona Diamondbacks could look to move first baseman Josh Naylor at this year's July 31 trade deadline with the 27-year-old set to reach free agency after this season. Third baseman Eugenio Suarez could be another trade candidate. A number of teams could use a big corner-infield bat this summer, and Feinsand mentions the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox as potential fits for Naylor. However, the D-backs have climbed back into the playoff race with a good start to June and are within striking distance of a wild-card spot in the National League. How the next month plays out could drastically affect whether they seriously consider moving Naylor, who entered Wednesday hitting a strong .302/.356/.474 with an .830 OPS, nine homers, 49 RBI, 37 runs and nine stolen bases in 268 at-bats.

Tue Jun 1009:46Josh Naylor Mashes Walk-Off Grand Slam
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Monday's 8-4 win against the Seattle Mariners. He singled, doubled, scored twice, and drew a walk. The 27-year-old entered the contest in a 1-for-21 slump, but promptly broke out of it to deliver a massive performance. Naylor picked up his first RBI with a double in the seventh, but saved his best for last when he approached the dish in the bottom of the eleventh inning. With the bases jacked, he battled Mariners' reliever Carlos Vargas, fouling off three straight balls before blasting a walk-off grand slam to send everyone home. It was homer No. 8 for the former first-round pick, who's added nine steals, 44 RBI, 32 runs scored, and a solid .290/.346/.457 triple slash.

Fri Jun 616:29Josh Naylor Out on Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (hand, shoulder) is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener in Cincinnati against the Reds at Great American Ballpark. Rookie Tim Tawa is starting at first base and will hit eighth against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo. Naylor was pulled from Thursday's come-from-behind win over the Atlanta Braves with soreness in both his hand and shoulder, and the D-backs will hold him out a day later against a left-handed pitcher. The 27-year-old is being considered day-to-day and could be back as early as Game 2 of the series in Cincy on Saturday. Tawa, who has never faced Lodolo in his career, will be a low-upside DFS dart throw as a sleeper on Friday. He's hitting just .218 (24-for-110) in a utility role and has six home runs and six RBI in his first 40 major-league games.
