Tue Sep 209:32Tyler Mahle Will Make a Rehab Appearance Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is working his way back from an extended layoff but still hopes to return to the majors this season. The veteran righty is lined up to work two innings for the Triple-A Round Rock Express on Tuesday, which lines up nicely with Nathan Eovaldi's open spot in the rotation. Manager Bruce Bochy said that if things go well, there is a possibility that Mahle could be activated for the team's September 8 matchup against the Brewers the next time this spot in the rotation comes up. Obviously, after missing almost three months, Mahle would be on a pitch limit, but he could be the opener for a bullpen game soon. Mahle was very effective, going 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA and 3.40 FIP before being shut down with a right rotator cuff strain. The Rangers are just 1.5 games back in the AL Wild Card race, so getting Mahle back down the stretch could be huge as they try to push to the postseason.

Fri Aug 2923:40Tyler Mahle to Make Triple-A Rehab Start on Sept. 2
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) faced hitters on Thursday and will make a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sept. 2, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. While the plan is for Mahle to throw two innings in that game, the Rangers could ramp up his rehab process if he pitches well. Shoulder troubles have kept Mahle out of action since June 10, and with the season nearing an end, he may only have enough time to come back in a multi-inning role. Before he went on the IL, the 30-year-old made 14 starts and threw 77 innings - his most since 2022. Mahle has gone 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA (4.31 xERA), a 1.13 WHIP, and 56:27 K:BB this season.

Tue Aug 2609:54Tyler Mahle Could Still Return This Year
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) has been out since mid-June with shoulder fatigue, but he recently was able to resume throwing off a mound. He still has been limited to just fastballs, but he could advance to throwing live batting practice in the near future and possibly still work his way back to the majors by the end of the year. In his 77 innings over 14 starts before the injury, Mahle went 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA and 3.39 FIP. If the 30-year-old can return at anywhere close to that level, he could be a valuable spot start or DFS play in the right matchups down the stretch and also give the Rangers' injury-depleted rotation a nice boost. He still has a ways to go, but he's worth monitoring over the next few weeks.

Sat Jul 1909:05Tyler Mahle Plays Catch on Friday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) played catch for the first time on Friday, a small but positive step in the right direction as he works his way back from a strained rotator cuff. The veteran righty is not eligible to return until mid-August, but with the Rangers just 3.5 games behind in the Wild Card race, they'll welcome him back with open arms. The 30-year-old was in the midst of a career year before he succumbed to injury yet again, going 6-3 while posting a 2.34 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. The low strikeout totals (6.55 K/9) are a bummer for fantasy, but he's only rostered in 48 percent of Yahoo! leagues and can contribute in three categories, so he could still help fantasy managers get to the playoffs.

Thu Jul 1022:01Tyler Mahle to Start Throwing Next Week
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) will start throwing next week, manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday. Mahle hasn't pitched since June 10 because of a strained rotator cuff, which caused the Rangers to transfer him to the 60-day injured list on July 1. As a result, he won't be eligible to rejoin the Rangers until mid-August. Mahle was a key part of the Rangers' rotation before the injury interrupted his season, as he went 6-3 with a stingy 2.34 ERA and 56:27 K:BB in 77 innings. Unfortunately, staying healthy has been a problem for the 30-year-old, who has combined for just 22 starts since 2023.

Wed Jul 209:36Tyler Mahle Transferred to the 60-Day Injured List
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Texas Rangers PR reports. The veteran right-hander has already been ruled out through the July 31 trade deadline due to the injury, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his return timeline much. Mahle will be eligible for reinstatement in mid-August. However, it's unclear if he'll be ready to return at that point, considering he has yet to resume any baseball activities thus far. Mahle has had a long history of injuries over his career, so fantasy managers may want to consider dropping him if they need to make room on their roster. Mahle has been surprisingly good in 2025 with a 6-3 record and a 2.34 ERA in 77 innings pitched. Kumar Rocker continues to take his spot in the rotation in the meantime.

Mon Jun 3018:22Tyler Mahle Dealing With Rotator-Cuff Strain
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is dealing with a rotator-cuff strain, according to Rangers' president of baseball operations Chris Young. Mahle was placed on the injured list on June 12 due to shoulder soreness. It seems like a fairly significant injury that has stopped Mahle from throwing for now. The team is having Mahle rest right now, so his return to the mound isn't on the horizon. There is no timetable for his return, but some point in July seems possible.UPDATE: The Rangers aren't expecting Mahle back until after the July 31 trade deadline.

Sun Jun 1513:29Tyler Mahle Placed on 15-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers have placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list prior to their contest on Sunday due to right shoulder soreness. In a corresponding move, the Rangers are promoting right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker from Triple-A. Rocker will get the starting nod this afternoon as well. On Saturday, the team announced that the veteran was dealing with soreness and would likely hit the IL. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status while he remains out of action. The 30-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, posting a 2.34 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP across 77 innings of work. During this stretch, he has only tallied 56 punchouts and held an 8.8% walk rate. While he remains out, Rocker should see several opportunities in the rotation.

Sat Jun 1416:04Tyler Mahle Dealing With Shoulder Soreness
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) battled shoulder soreness in a start against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, manager Bruce Bochy revealed. The Rangers cruised to a 16-4 win in that game, but Mahle yielded four earned runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Arm problems have been a significant hindrance over the past couple of years for Mahle. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2023 as a member of the Twins. Mahle returned last August with the Rangers, but shoulder troubles ended his season after just three starts. Mahle may start Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, though it seems increasingly possible he will require a stint on the 15-day injured list. In that case, the club could recall righty Kumar Rocker from Triple-A Round Rock to take the ball. Rocker is with the Rangers in Arlington, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. The 25-year-old has dealt with his own shoulder woes this season and struggled to an 8.87 ERA in 23 1/3 innings in the bigs. Mahle, on the other hand, has registered a stingy 2.34 ERA (4.14 xERA) over 77 frames.

Tue May 1301:34Tyler Mahle Snags Fourth Victory
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (4-1) yielded one earned run on four hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings in his team's 2-1 victory against the Colorado Rockies. He struck out five while earning his fourth win of the season. The 30-year-old faced the minimum number of batters in four frames on Monday and allowed just one extra-base hit -- a Hunter Goodman double to lead off the top of the seventh. Mahle has been fantastic in 2025, sporting a 1.47 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through nine starts (49 innings). His strikeouts are up slightly from 2024 (19.3%), when he pitched just 12 2/3 innings while dealing with elbow and shoulder ailments. However, it's a far cry from the strikeout rates he posted earlier in his career. This is a different version of him than we're used to, but he's still been effective -- even if he is out-pitching his metrics by a good bit (4.10 xFIP).

Mon Apr 2102:45Tyler Mahle Keeps The Good Times Rolling On Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle had another impressive outing on Sunday, firing seven scoreless frames against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 1-0 loss. Mahle allowed just two hits while walking three and punching out four. It's been a strange formula for Mahle, who now has a 25:12 K:BB ratio over 26 IP, but it's working. The righty has been limiting hits at a ridiculous rate, with only 10 total hits allowed over those innings. He also hasn't given up more than three hits in any of his five outings this year. While regression will likely hit Mahle hard, he is certainly worth rostering in all fantasy formats during his current run.

Wed Apr 1605:34Tyler Mahle Strikes Out Nine Over Six Shutout Innings
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle was dominant in a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Mahle threw six shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking three, and striking out nine to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. The veteran hurler was on top of his game in the start, picking up 18 swinging strikes against the Angels. Mahle has been excellent to start the year for the Rangers, posting a 0.92 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings of work. He will be put to the test in his next start, however, as he is slated to face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

Wed Apr 917:31Tyler Mahle Delivers Quality Start, Second Win
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle had another strong start for the Rangers in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field to win his second game of the season. Mahle delivered a quality start for his fantasy managers by allowing only one earned run on two hits while walking one and fanning four in seven innings pitched. Although the strikeout numbers don't really jump off the page, it was an impressive outing on a chilly day in Chicago. The 30-year-old veteran, who made only eight starts combined with the Twins and Rangers the last two years due to injuries, has now pieced together three straight strong starts to begin the year after he gave up only an earned run while walking six and striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings in his first two starts against the Red Sox and Rays. Mahle's next start will come against the Angels, who have gotten off to a surprising 7-3 start.

Sat Apr 509:15Tyler Mahle Throws Five Shutout Innings In Win
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle tossed five innings of shutout ball in Friday's 5-2 victory over the Rays, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out five batters on the way to earning his first win of the season. The righty bounced back well after he was unable to get through two innings the last time out, which included walking four batters. The 30-year-old missed most of 2023 and 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery, but posted a 4.40 ERA (3.87 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, and a 16.5 percent K-BB% during his last full season in 2022. He'll look to keep the momentum going in his next turn through the rotation when he squares off with the Cubs in Chicago.

Thu Mar 1321:08Tyler Mahle Pitches In Minor-League Game
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (forearm) pitched in a minor-league game in camp on Thursday against Double-A Northwest Arkansas and allowed three runs in four innings while allowing six hits, walking none and striking out five. He threw 42 of his 55 pitches for strikes and tossed an extra 10 pitches in the bullpen after being scratched from his Cactus League start earlier this week with right-forearm tightness. The 30-year-old's MRI results didn't show any structural damage in his arm, though, and Mahle should be able to get back into a spring training game soon. It's great news for a pitcher who only made three starts in 2024 in his return from Tommy John surgery in 2023. He also missed time late last year with a shoulder injury. Because his innings will be limited in 2025, Mahle is really only worth stashing in deeper fantasy leagues.

Wed Mar 1213:21Tyler Mahle's MRI Comes Back Clean, Should Return In A Few Days
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle's (forearm) MRI exam came back clean after he was scratched from his Cactus League outing on Tuesday as a precaution. Mahle feels fine on Wednesday and will pitch sometime in the next few days, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. The 30-year-old dodged a bullet after having Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. Mahle didn't make his 2024 debut until early August and made only three starts for the Rangers before being shut down with right-shoulder soreness. Although his latest injury scare this spring isn't serious, it's hard to trust Mahle moving forward given all of his recent arm injuries. When healthy, he will be a part of Texas' starting rotation, but his workload will be managed, lowering his fantasy ceiling. Fantasy managers in 12-team leagues can ignore Mahle on draft day.UPDATE: Mahle is scheduled to pitch on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants.

Tue Mar 1118:28Tyler Mahle Scratched On Tuesday With "Forearm Soreness"
Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (forearm) was scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start on Tuesday versus the division-rival Los Angeles Angels with what was described as "forearm soreness." The Rangers are taking an abundance of caution, but as the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant points out, there is always caution and concern when it comes to a forearm injury. Young right-hander Jack Leiter took Mahle's place as the starter on Tuesday. It's especially concerning for the 30-year-old Mahle because of the fact that he made only three starts in 2024 before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery. If Mahle is unable to be ready for the start of the regular season, it would open up a starting rotation spot for either Leiter or Kumar Rocker. Mahle has started only eight big-league games the last two seasons with the Twins and Rangers due to injuries.

Sat Feb 1514:49Tyler Mahle A Full-Go For Spring Training
According to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Tyler Mahle enters spring training with a "clean bill of health" and will have "no restrictions." Mahle missed most of the 2024 season due to removing from Tommy John surgery. He returned to the bump in August but was only able to make three starts before being shut down with shoulder tightness. However, seeing him enter spring training without any restrictions is a great sign for his status. Mahle enjoyed a career season during the 2021 campaign with the Cincinnati Reds as he posted a 3.75 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 180 frames. He struck out 210 batters and served up just 64 free passes during that season. Fantasy managers should expect the 30-year-old to slot in the starting rotation. If he performs well in spring training, he could be worth a look later in drafts in deeper formats, given the strikeout upside he flashed earlier in his career.

Tue Sep 3 202421:08Tyler Mahle Likely Done For The Year
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy indicated on Tuesday that right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) is likely done for the remainder of the 2024 season. With the Rangers out of playoff contention in September, they aren't going to bother having Mahle try to build himself back up after landing on the injured list on Aug. 20 with right-shoulder stiffness. The 29-year-old spent most of 2024 trying to make his return from Tommy John surgery. He managed to make only three starts (12 2/3 innings) for Texas and was predictably shaky, allowing seven earned runs on 14 hits (one homer) while walking four and striking out 10 against the Astros, Red Sox and Twins. The Rangers are also shutting down fellow right-hander Jon Gray (foot) for the rest of the year due to a neuroma in his foot. Mahle was looking solid for the Twins early in 2023 before he needed TJ surgery, so perhaps he can bounce back in 2025.

Tue Aug 20 202417:47Tyler Mahle Heads To The Injured List
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said the team is putting right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right-shoulder stiffness and activating right-hander Jon Gray (groin) from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. Mahle returned from Tommy John surgery recently but only was able to make three starts for Texas before landing back on the shelf. The 29-year-old allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits (one homer) while walking four and striking out 10 in 12 2/3 innings in those three starts. It's unclear if Mahle will be able to come off the IL when he's eligible. In the meantime, Gray figures to fill Mahle's spot in Texas' starting rotation and is worth a look for starting depth in mixed leagues to close out the year. With Max Scherzer (shoulder) and Jacob deGrom (elbow) also returning soon, Mahle may not have a rotation spot to return to when he's healthy.
