Sat Aug 921:53Luis Morales Starting on SundayLuis MoralesP/RPAthleticsFree Agent
Athletics starting pitcher Luis Morales is scheduled to take the mound for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 22-year-old is set to make his first career start in the big leagues. Morales made one appearance for the A's before this and threw two innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. The expectation is that Morales will have a limited workload on the mound. The right-hander has a tremendous fastball, but control has been an issue for him. There is plenty of long term upside there, but Morales is unlikely to pitch deep into this game. He'll only offer low-end streaming appeal for Sunday's contest.

Sat Aug 914:13Michael Massey to Begin Rehab Assignment SaturdayMichael Massey2BRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Michael Massey (ankle, wrist, back) will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Saturday, the team announced. Massey went on the 10-day injured list with a sprained ankle back on June 7, but other issues have set him back in the two months since then. He suffered a hairline wrist fracture on a hit by pitch on June 29, which forced the Royals to shut him down. Massey then restarted a rehab assignment, but the Royals had to remove him from it Aug. 2 after he experienced back tightness. After a recent injection, Massey will attempt to work his way back to the majors once again. The 27-year-old has hit an unsightly .202/.221/.258 with two home runs in 209 plate appearances this season.

Sat Aug 911:27Fernando Cruz to Throw to Live Batters on SundayFernando CruzRPYankeesFree Agent
New York Yankees right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz (oblique) is set to throw a live bullpen session on Sunday at Double-A Somerset. The 35-year-old had recently completed mound work without any setbacks or complications. If he can have a successful session here, there is a good chance that a rehab assignment could take place soon afterward. Cruz has been an outstanding option for the Yankees out of the bullpen this season. Over 33 innings pitched, he has recorded two saves, nine holds, and posted a 41.2% strikeout rate. When he returns, he will join an incredibly talented bullpen, giving New York another solid option near the end of games.

Sat Aug 910:05Mark Canha Hits Grand Slam in First Rehab GameMark CanhaLFRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals outfielder Mark Canha (elbow) began his rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas in a big way, finishing 2-for-4 and hitting a grand slam in the process. It remains to be seen how long he will be rehabbing, but it's a promising sign that his issue with tennis elbow is feeling better after this initial performance. The 36-year-old first baseman/outfielder has only played in 46 games this season, posting a pedestrian .212/.272/.265 slash line while hitting just one home run. When he does return, he will likely continue to be used primarily against left-handed pitchers.

Sat Aug 909:44Bryce Teodosio Feeling Better after Leaving Game Early on FridayBryce TeodosioCFAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Bryce Teodosio (head) left Friday night's game after colliding with the outfield wall in the third inning. The team said after the game that he was feeling better, but that he was still in the process of being evaluated. There should be updates throughout the weekend, but there's a good chance that he misses at least one game while the team figures out the physical well-being of the 26-year-old. Teodosio recently had his contract from Triple-A Salt Lake purchased, and had played in six straight games before the injury. In that time, he has gone 5-14 with three stolen bases. He is someone to consider adding in AL-only leagues, although he appears destined to return to the bench once Jo Adell returns from his injury.

Fri Aug 820:04Austin Slater to Miss 4-6 Weeks With Hamstring StrainAustin SlaterLF/RFYankeesFree Agent
New York Yankees outfielder Austin Slater (hamstring) is slated to miss four to six weeks with his hamstring strain, according to manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees put Slater on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday after he strained his hamstring on Monday. The 32-year-old will be on the shelf for a while after going hitless in seven at-bats with four strikeouts in his first three games in pinstripes after being acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline. Before the trade, Slater was hitting just .236 (29-for-123) with five home runs, 11 RBI, 20 runs scored and a stolen base in 51 games with the White Sox. Slater is not worth stashing in mixed leagues if he's on your roster, and he'll likely be in more of a bench role in the Bronx when he's able to return late in the season.

Fri Aug 818:54Wikelman Gonzalez Returning to Major LeaguesWikelman GonzálezRP/SPWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox right-handed pitching prospect Wikelman Gonzalez is slated to rejoin the major league roster before their contest on Friday evening against the Cleveland Guardians. In a corresponding move, the White Sox are sending right-hander Jonathan Cannon to Triple-A. Gonzalez made his MLB debut earlier this summer but logged only five innings across three relief appearances. During this short taste, the right-hander allowed two runs and four hits. Throughout his time with the Charlotte Knights this season, Gonzalez logged 30 innings of relief to the tune of a 4.80 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP. During this stretch, Gonzalez struck out just 28 hitters. Given that he is likely to have a low leverage role in the bullpen, he will carry minimal fantasy value.

Fri Aug 816:31Ryan Mountcastle Activated and Starting Against A'sRyan Mountcastle1BOriolesFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday and he is serving as the designated hitter while batting fifth in Friday's series opener against the visiting Athletics at Camden Yards. With Mountcastle back, the 28-year-old right-handed hitter should see starts between DH and first base. He has been away from the big-league team since May 30, though, and there's no guarantee he'll find his groove after struggling to a .246/.280/.348 slash line with two home runs, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored in 187 at-bats before his injury. But Mountcastle should play regularly with the disappointing O's the rest of the way, especially after both outfielders Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) landed on the injured on Friday. Mountcastle has never faced A's Friday starter J.T. Ginn.

Fri Aug 814:10Mark Canha to Start Rehab Assignment on FridayMark CanhaLFRoyalsFree Agent
The Kansas Royals are expecting first baseman/outfielder Mark Canha (elbow) to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday night with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Canha will resume playing in games in the minors a month after going on the injured list with tennis elbow in his left arm. The 36-year-old veteran could be back in the big leagues as early as next week, but it's unclear how long the Royals might leave him on his rehab assignment. When Canha returns to the Royals, he'll be an option mainly against left-handed pitchers at designated hitter, first base and the outfield. However, the former seventh-rounder won't exactly excite fantasy managers looking for a waiver-wire pickup, as Canha has hit just .212/.272/.265 on the year with a homer, six RBI and nine runs scored in 46 games and 125 trips to the plate for KC.

Fri Aug 812:44Paul Sewald Hoping to Contribute in September, OctoberPaul SewaldRPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Paul Sewald (shoulder) is rehabbing a shoulder strain and hopes to help the AL Central leaders in September and October, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Sewald began a throwing program Aug. 4 and has felt "great" in the early stages, but he noted that everything is "day-by-day in rehab." Although the 35-year-old hasn't pitched since July 11, the Tigers acquired him from the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline with the hope that he'd bolster their bullpen at the end of the season. Sewald recorded an unimpressive 4.70 ERA in 15 1/3 innings with the Guardians this year, though he did rack up 18 strikeouts against a mere four walks. He's on the 60-day injured list and eligible to debut with the Tigers on Sept. 10.

Fri Aug 809:25Brandon Young Sticking in RotationBrandon YoungSPOriolesFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young will get at least one more turn in the starting rotation. According to Jake Rill, Young is slated to take the ball versus the Athletics on Saturday. The O's don't have many healthy arms right now with Zach Eflin (back), Kyle Bradish (elbow), and Tyler Wells (elbow) all sidelined. Young has been better on the mound lately with only two earned runs over his last 10.2 innings of work. Despite some recent success, Young isn't someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats right now.

Fri Aug 806:31Colby Thomas Hits First Career MLB Home RunColby ThomasCFAthleticsFree Agent
Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas hit his first MLB home run during their victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon. Thomas tallied his lone hit of the game with a two-run shot in the opening frame off Mitchell Parker, which scored Darell Hernaiz. Later in the fourth, Thomas would tack on his third RBI of the contest with a sacrifice fly, which brought in Hernaiz for the second time. This is Thomas' second stint in the big leagues. Through 16 career games in the majors, Thomas has posted a modest .156/.243/.313 line. However, he has not seen consistent at-bats as the Athletics outfield is quite deep. For now, Thomas remains a target for deeper AL-only redraft leagues. If he can continue to produce, he could carve out a starting role for the 2026 season.

Thu Aug 721:45Alek Manoah Throws Three Innings in First Double-A Rehab StartAlek ManoahSPBlue JaysFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah (elbow) threw three innings in his first Double-A rehab start on Thursday. Manoah allowed two earned runs on five hits with three walks and two strikes on 64 pitches (36 strikes). The results weren't great, but it's a notable step forward for the former All-Star as he continues in his rehab from elbow surgery. He went under the knife in June 2024 after making just five appearances a season ago and hasn't pitched in the bigs since. The Jays are hopeful that Manoah will make it back later this month, but barring injuries, it seems unlikely the first-place club will insert him into the rotation upon his return. Toronto has received good production from the starting quintet of Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, Chris Bassitt, and Eric Lauer.

Thu Aug 718:49Jose Urquidy Making Rehab Start on ThursdayJosé UrquidySPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jose Urquidy (elbow) is scheduled to take the mound for a rehab start with Single-A Lakeland on Thursday. Urquidy threw a scoreless inning during his first rehab outing on Sunday. He figures to see a slightly larger workload this time around. If everything goes well, Urquidy should continue to ramp up his activities. The right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery from last year. The hope is that he can contribute to the Tigers rotation at some point before the end of the regular season. He's not someone worth stashing in fantasy leagues right now.

Thu Aug 713:01Chase Meidroth Heads to 10-Day Injured ListChase Meidroth2B/SSWhite SoxFree Agent
The Chicago White Sox have placed middle infielder Chase Meidroth (thumb) on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb contusion, retroactive to Aug. 4. The team selected the contract of infielder Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Meidroth hasn't played since he took a pitch off the thumb and had to leave early in a 9-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies last Wednesday. The 24-year-old rookie has hit .252/.330/.319 with three homers, 15 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases in 349 plate appearances this season.

Thu Aug 712:51Robert Stephenson Throwing Bullpen SessionsRobert StephensonRPAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels right-handed reliever Robert Stephenson (biceps) threw his third and most recent bullpen session on Aug. 5 as he works back from a stretched nerve in his bicep. Stephenson made just two appearances in late May before the injury forced him to the 10-day IL, and the Angels have since moved the 32-year-old to the 60-day IL. Stephenson is eligible to return whenever he's ready, which could be later this month. In 2023, his most recent full season, Stephenson put up a 3.10 ERA with a .88 WHIP and 77:16 K:BB in a combined 52 1/3 innings between Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. The Angels then signed Stephenson to a three-year, $33 million contract in free agency, but they've gotten nothing from the investment so far. He missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and has thrown only one inning this year.

Thu Aug 712:42Jose Leclerc Undergoes Successful Shoulder SurgeryJosé LeclercRPAthleticsFree Agent
Athletics reliever Jose Leclerc (lat) underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder on Wednesday. Leclerc will remain on the 60-day injured list and miss the remainder of 2025 before becoming a free agent. It'll go down as a lost season for Leclerc, who last pitched April 22, as well as a failed investment for the Athletics. They guaranteed Leclerc $10 million on a one-year deal, but he threw just nine innings of six-run, 13-hit ball with 8:5 K:BB before a lat strain forced him to the shelf. Although Leclerc tried to work his way back from the injury, it wasn't in the cards. It's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of next season. A Texas Ranger from 2016-24, the soon-to-be 32-year-old will return to free agency over the winter with a 3.34 ERA, 11.72 K/9, and 5.00 BB/9 across 369 1/3 career innings.

Wed Aug 622:48Tim Elko Goes Deep on WednesdayTim Elko1BWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox first base prospect Tim Elko went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 6-0 win against Triple-A Syracuse. Elko was activated from the IL and optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, and didn't wait long to get back to doing damage at the plate. He's now up to 19 homers and a .315/.385/.610 slash line in 270 plate appearances at the level. The quality of contact is excellent for Elko, with a 52.6 percent hard-hit rate and 12.8 percent barrel rate. The slugging first baseman came up to the majors for a brief period, but his swing and miss issues were on display with a 41.8 percent strikeout rate. The 26-year-old did slug four homers in that time and continued to hit the ball hard when he did make contact. There's a good possibility Elko returns to the majors before the season ends, and he's a decent option for fantasy managers looking for cheap power in deep formats and AL-only leagues.

Wed Aug 619:06Chase Meidroth Remains Out on WednesdayChase Meidroth2B/SSWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox rookie middle infielder Chase Meidroth (thumb) remains out of action for Wednesday's contest in Seattle against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. Lenyn Sosa will get the nod at the keystone and will hit in the two-hole versus Mariners right-hander George Kirby. Meidroth is missing his fifth straight game, so if he's unable to return soon, he may be looking at a stint on the 10-day injured list after he was hit by a pitch on his right thumb last Wednesday. Sosa won't be a bad sleeper in DFS on Wednesday out of the two-hole while hitting .281 (96-for-342) on the year with 12 home runs, 44 RBI and 36 runs scored for the Pale Hose in 96 games played. He's gone hitless in only two career at-bats against Kirby. The 24-year-old Meidroth has been a modest speed contributor with 11 stolen bases for those in AL-only leagues in his first year in the Show.

Wed Aug 614:45Heston Kjerstad Dealing with Fatigue at Triple-AHeston KjerstadDH/LF/RFOriolesFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad (undisclosed) is currently on the Triple-A Norfolk 7-day injured list, but no specific diagnosis has been shared other than that he is dealing with fatigue. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino reiterated on Wednesday that the team is "not ready to share" details on what is ailing Kjerstad, but could provide an update later in the week. The former second-overall draft pick began the year with the big league club, but was sent to Triple-A in early June. Since then, the 26-year-old has slashed .149/.225/.248 in 27 games, but has not played in a game for Norfolk since July 25. Hopefully it is nothing serious, and the former top prospect can get back on his way to contributing in the majors again soon.
