Sun Sep 7 | 21:10 | Brandon Sproat Shows Promise in MLB Debut Despite Loss |
New York Mets right-hander Brandon Sproat made his MLB debut Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, turning in a strong six-inning performance despite taking the loss. Sproat allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out seven, flashing plenty of upside in a quality outing. The 24-year-old threw 88 pitches, 58 for strikes, good for a 66 percent strike rate. With more opportunities to grow and refine his command, Sproat has the potential to become a key piece in the Mets rotation as they push for a playoff spot. |

Thu Sep 4 | 12:56 | Brandon Sproat to Start for Mets on Sunday |
The New York Mets will promote right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat to start Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. Struggling righty Kodai Senga had been penciled in for that game, but the Mets will instead turn to Sproat for his debut. MLB Pipeline ranks the former second-round pick (2023) as the fifth-best prospect in the Mets' system and their No. 3 pitcher behind fellow righties Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong. Both McLean and Tong earned call-ups in recent weeks and have been successful, leading the Mets to try their hand again with another well-regarded minor-league hurler. The 24-year-old Sproat has recorded a 4.24 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP, 113 strikeouts, and 53 walks over 121 Triple-A innings this season. He has been much more impressive lately, though, having pitched to a 2.59 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 11 appearances (10 starts) and 59 innings since June 28. Sproat will look to continue his recent success in a meeting with the Reds, who rank 14th in the majors in runs and 17th in OPS. |

Thu Sep 4 | 12:09 | Brandon Sproat Could Earn Promotion to Majors |
The New York Mets are strongly considering promoting right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat to make a start in the majors, Andy Martino of SNY reports. MLB Pipeline ranks Sproat as the Mets' third-best pitching prospect, trailing righties Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong. The team has called up McLean and Tong in recent weeks, and the two have performed well at the outset of their careers. Meanwhile, veterans Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea have struggled. That could help open the door for Sproat, a second-round pick in 2023. The hard-throwing 24-year-old has spent the season at the Triple-A level and notched a 4.24 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 113:53 K:BB over 121 innings. He has been far more effective since June 28, having registered a 2.44 ERA in 59 innings, and could be on his way to the Show soon. |

Fri Aug 29 | 11:24 | Brandon Sproat Stumbles in Relief Appearance |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat struggled in his first relief appearance of the season on August 24. The Mets opted to shift him to the bullpen, which could open a path for him to join the MLB club for the stretch run. However, the Florida product was not effective coming out of the bullpen, allowing seven hits and five earned runs to Indianapolis. However, over his last 48 1/3 innings pitching out of the rotation, Sproat was highly effective, posting an elite 2.05 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, with a 57:17 K:BB. Earlier this week, the Mets announced that they would be promoting top pitching prospect Jonah Tong to join recently promoted Nolan McLean in the majors. Given this update, Sproat's clearest path to an MLB debut this season is likely to be in a long relief role. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but given his struggles out of the bullpen, he is not worth stashing in any redraft formats for the time being. |

Sun Aug 24 | 14:51 | Brandon Sproat Getting a Look as Reliever |
New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat is getting a look at reliever and is expected to come out of the bullpen on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse. The reason behind the shift is to give the 24-year-old some experience coming on in relief in the event that is what the Mets determine they need from him as they make a push for the playoffs. The Mets' fifth-ranked prospect owns a 4.24 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 24 starts at Triple-A this season, but has pitched better since late June, recording a 2.05 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and a 21.3 percent K-BB% over his last nine starts. The righty allowed one run or less in six of those nine starts. While it is exciting for youngsters to get their shot in the majors, if Sproat's opportunity this season comes as a middle reliever, it would certainly dampen his fantasy value in 2025 redraft leagues, although his future as a starter for dynasty leagues remains bright. |

Wed Aug 20 | 00:19 | Brandon Sproat Racks Up Eight Strikeouts Tuesday |
New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat allowed one run on two hits and a walk while punching out eight in a 6-5 loss against Triple-A Indianapolis. Sproat bounced back with a gem after allowing five runs in his previous start. The right-hander generated 12 whiffs on 40 swings for the night, all coming from his four-seam and breaking ball combination. It's been a tale of two halves for Sproat as he struggled to a 5.95 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 62 innings in the first half. He holds a 2.05 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 48.1 innings since the break. When he's consistently throwing strikes and letting his stuff play in the zone, he's found success. He could be a candidate to come up to the majors when the rosters expand and would be a good add in deeper formats. |

Fri Aug 15 | 00:51 | Brandon Sproat Ineffective on Thursday |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 3 1/3 innings against Triple-A Rochester. Sproad had been money for an extended period before this implosion with a 1.15 ERA in 39 innings since June 28. He allowed the same number of runs on Thursday night as he did during that entire stretch. The right-hander was erratic with his control, as he threw just 50 of 90 pitches for strikes. That was a common issue for him during his struggles for the first few months of the season before cleaning some of it up. For the season, he holds a 4.40 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 92:48 K:BB ratio in 104 1/3 innings. |

Fri Aug 8 | 00:30 | Brandon Sproat Records Quality Start on Thursday |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat picked up the win against Triple-A Charlotte, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings. Sproat wasn't quite as dominant in this outing as he'd been previously, but still limited damage effectively and pitched well enough to earn the win. It's been an incredible stretch for the right-hander dating back to June 28, allowing only six runs (five earned) in that span, which comes out to a 1.15 ERA to go with 43 strikeouts in 39 innings. Leading up to that point, it had been a real struggle for Sproat as he held a 5.95 ERA and a 43:32 K:BB ratio in 62 innings. The 24-year-old has flipped his season around and will look to finish out the season on a high note. |

Thu Aug 7 | 06:46 | Brandon Sproat Punches Out Nine in Latest Start |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat struck out nine hitters in his latest start on July 31. In this outing, Sproat allowed just three hits and no runs across five innings. He served up three walks. This was a nice bounce-back outing for the budding ace as he allowed two runs with two walks in his previous start on July 25. Before this game, Sproat was riding an incredible 23-straight inning shutout streak. During this stretch, Sproat struck out 27 hitters while allowing only six walks with eight total hits. While he had a slow start to the season, the Florida product has been one of the best pitchers at Triple-A during the second half. Given his strong resurgence, he should be in the mix to debut in the majors in the coming weeks. |

Sat Jul 26 | 07:13 | Brandon Sproat Picks up Victory on Friday |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat saw his shutout streak come to an end on Friday, but was still able to pick up the victory. Facing Triple-A Omaha, the right-hander tossed five innings of two-run ball. He allowed five hits and served up two walks. He struck out three hitters. Most of his damage came on a two-run double by Omaha infielder Michael Massey. Prior to this contest, the right-hander logged 23-straight shutout frames. Over this four-game stretch, the former second-round pick struck out 27 batters and allowed just six walks. Despite his slow start at Triple-A this season, Sproat has begun to turn the corner and is nearing his MLB debut. Given his recent success, he is worth stashing in all deeper 12+ team leagues going forward. |

Tue Jul 22 | 14:28 | Brandon Sproat, Nolan McLean Could be Bullpen Options Down the Stretch |
New York Mets pitching prospects Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean could fill bullpen roles this season if necessary, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. As the trade deadline looms, one of the Mets' glaring weaknesses is their relief corps, and they could deal away from their infield depth in order to secure it. However, in the event they do not, it could be either Sproat or McLean. They've been performing well as starters in the minors, and it wouldn't necessarily mean they would be relievers next year and beyond. The Mets' fourth (McLean) and fifth-ranked (Sproat) prospects could also still be called up to serve as a cog in the rotation in the event one of their current starters goes down with an injury. Sproat's season-long numbers are deceiving as he's been dominant lately, posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.61 WHIP, and a 10.57 K/9 (25.9 percent K-BB%) over his last four starts, while McLean owns a 2.58 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 10.03 K/9 (15.9 percent K-BB%) in 17 games (14 starts). |

Sun Jul 20 | 08:52 | Brandon Sproat Strikes Out Nine on Saturday |
New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat threw five innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, allowing zero earned runs (one unearned run) on one hit and one walk while striking out nine batters. It's now a dominantfour-game stretch for the righty, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, and an elite 25.9 percent K-BB% in his last 23 innings pitched. The 24-year-old allowed six earned runs on three separate occasions earlier this season, and as a result, his season-long ERA still stands at a high 4.34, but he's clearlyrolling now. The Mets' fifth-ranked prospect appears to be on the doorstep to an MLB debut, so managers in deep leagues who are looking for pitching help should consider stashing the 6-foot-3 hurler in advance of an eventual call-up. |

Fri Jul 11 | 11:47 | Brandon Sproat Tosses Seven Shutout Frames on Thursday |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat tossed seven shutout frames on Thursday evening in their matchup against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. In this start, Sproat allowed just three hits and one walk. He struck out four. Since allowing four runs on June 22, Sproat has logged 18 straight shutout frames (across three starts). During this stretch, Sproat has struck out 18 batters and allowed just seven hits and five walks. This is an excellent sign for the budding right-hander, as he posted a hefty 7.33 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP over his last 46 2/3 innings at Triple-A before this recent surge. Fantasy managers should continue to keep an eye on Sproat's development at Syracuse, as he should be in the mix to make his MLB debut in the second half. Given his recent production, he is worth stashing in all 12+ team leagues. |

Thu May 15 | 00:42 | Brandon Sproat Gives Up Six Earned Runs Wednesday |
New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat allowed six earned runs on four hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He struck out four and gave up three home runs. It's been a bit of a downseason for Sproat so far, as his strikeout rate has fallen from 28.3% last season to 18.6% this season. It is still a small sample in just 28 innings, but his season-long ERA now sits at 5.85. The 24-year-old still ranks as one of the best arms in the Mets farm system and should be expected to debut sometime this summer. He would be worthy of picking up in deeper leagues as he will benefit from a pitcher-friendly home ballpark. Sproat is currently ranked as the 68th overall prospect in baseball on MLB.com. |

Thu May 8 | 07:43 | Brandon Sproat Allows One Run On Wednesday |
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat tossed five innings of one-run ball against Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. Sproat allowed just two hits and one walk. He struck out five. The Florida product has been able to hold his own during his second look at the Triple-A level. Through 28 innings of work, Sproat has held a 4.82 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. However, his ratios are quite inflated due to his six-run blow-up start on April 24. Removing this outing, the right-hander has posted a solid 3.16 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. Last summer, Sproat was able to make his Triple-A debut but struggled over his first taste of the level, as he held a high 7.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP across 28 2/3 innings of work. Given his steady progress, fantasy managers should expect Sproat to make his MLB debut in the first half of the 2025 campaign. |

Fri Apr 25 | 14:37 | Brandon Sproat Coughs Up Six Earned Runs In Latest Start |
New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat was tagged for six earned runs on Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out just one batter over 2 1/3 innings pitched. That's twice this season that Boston's Triple-A affiliate spoiled an outing after the righty allowed four earned runs in a two-inning start in March. Outside of those two starts, Sproat has performed well, allowing just two earned runs in 14 1/3 innings (1.26 ERA) on seven hits and a 5:9 BB:K. With a 3.8 K-BB% to begin the year, the Mets will surely like the 24-year-old to increase his strikeout rate and improve his walk rate before considering him for the major leagues. The Mets' top prospect is expected to get that shot in 2025, although it may not happen until June at this point. Still, MLB's 43rd-ranked prospect could be a stash candidate for those in deeper leagues in need of pitching help, but only if the bench spot needed to store him is not sacrificed for players who can help your team now. |

Wed Apr 16 | 15:37 | Brandon Sproat To Make MLB This Week? |
If New York Mets right-hander Griffin Canning (illness) isn't able to make his next start in one of the next few days, New York Newsday's Tim Healey suggests that the Mets could call up pitching prospect Brandon Sproat to make his major-league debut. Sproat is considered the Mets' top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he's coming off his best outing at Triple-A Syracuse in which he allowed just one run on two hits in 4 1/3 innings last Saturday. The 24-year-old got off to a rough start on the farm, though, and currently holds a 5.23 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB in 10 1/3 innings over three starts. Last year in 116 1/3 frames, he held a 3.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 131 K's and 42 walks at three different minor-league levels. The Mets start a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. If Sproat does make a spot start on Friday, it could just be a one-game audition before he heads back to the minors. |

Mon Mar 31 | 09:56 | Brandon Sproat Stumbles In Season Debut |
New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat allowed three hits and four earned runs across two innings of work in his season opener with Triple-A Syracuse. He allowed three free passes and struck out three batters. He ran into most of his trouble in the third innings when he served up two consecutive walks and then allowed a two-run single to Marcelo Mayer, which broke the game open. Sproat was in contention to make the Opening Day roster but was eventually sent to Triple-A Syracuse to continue his development. Last season, the Florida product progressed through the minor leagues fairly quickly, boasting a 2.05 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP across 87 2/3 innings split between High-A and Double-A. He ran into trouble during his first taste of Triple-A last summer, and these struggles appear to still remain. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but he will need to progress much further at Triple-A before reaching Queens. |
