Fri Aug 818:54Wikelman Gonzalez Returning to Major Leagues
Chicago White Sox right-handed pitching prospect Wikelman Gonzalez is slated to rejoin the major league roster before their contest on Friday evening against the Cleveland Guardians. In a corresponding move, the White Sox are sending right-hander Jonathan Cannon to Triple-A. Gonzalez made his MLB debut earlier this summer but logged only five innings across three relief appearances. During this short taste, the right-hander allowed two runs and four hits. Throughout his time with the Charlotte Knights this season, Gonzalez logged 30 innings of relief to the tune of a 4.80 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP. During this stretch, Gonzalez struck out just 28 hitters. Given that he is likely to have a low leverage role in the bullpen, he will carry minimal fantasy value.

Sat Jul 1916:32Wikelman Gonzalez Recalled
The Chicago White Sox have recalled right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte. He's up with righty Shane Smith (ankle) headed to the 15-day injured list with a sprained left ankle, retroactive to July 16. Gonzalez made his major league debut on June 20 and logged a pair of multi-inning relief appearances before going back to the minors. The 23-year-old combined for four frames of two-run ball with three hits allowed and five strikeouts against four walks in those outings. Gonzalez has struggled mightily with his control in the minors this season, having walked 34 hitters over 40 2/3 innings between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. He has a 4.43 ERA with 42 strikeouts on the year.

Fri Jun 2012:26Wikelman Gonzalez Headed to Major Leagues
The Chicago White Sox are promoting right-handed pitching prospect Wikelman Gonzalez to the major leagues. Gonzalez was acquired in the trade that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox in the winter. Gonzalez is currently considered the No. 16-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com. The right-hander opened the campaign with Double-A but only needed to log 16 1/3 innings to prove he was ready to join Triple-A Charlotte. With Double-A, Gonzalez struck out 21 batters and held a 4.41 ERA. At Triple-A, Gonzalez posted an impressive 2.75 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 19 2/3 innings of relief. During this stretch, Gonzalez struck out 18 batters but allowed a high 15 walks. Fantasy managers should expect the 23-year-old to begin his MLB career with a low-leverage role in the Chicago bullpen.

Wed Dec 11 202414:40White Sox Acquire Chase Meidroth, Wikelman Gonzalez From Boston
The Chicago White Sox acquired infield prospect Chase Meidroth and pitching prospect Wikelman Gonzalez from the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday as part of the package for left-hander Garrett Crochet, according to sources. Catcher Kyle Teel and outfielder Braden Montgomery are also heading to Chicago. Meidroth (No. 11) and Gonzalez (No. 14) weren't the headliners in this trade for the White Sox but could still end up with significant roles with the big-league team in due time. Meidroth has experience at shortstop, second and third base and hit an impressive .293/.437/.401 with seven homers and 13 steals in 122 games for Triple-A Worcester in 2024. The 23-year-old is close to major-league ready, and his most immediate path to playing time might be at second. Gonzalez, a 22-year-old right-hander, needs more seasoning after posting a 4.73 ERA with 92 K's and 46 walks in 83 2/3 innings for Double-A Portland this past season.
