The Pittsburgh Pirates have called up utility player Cam Devanney from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. They're likely to place outfielder Ronny Simon (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Simon injured his left shoulder in the Pirates' 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The 28-year-old Devanney still has not appeared in a major league game since the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 15th round of the 2019 draft. The Pirates acquired him from the Kansas City Royals in a trade for infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier on July 16. Between the Triple-A affiliates for the Pirates and Royals, Devanney has slashed .269/.356/.499 with 20 homers, 66 RBI, 52 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 431 plate appearances this season. The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Cam Devanney from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in exchange for veteran infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier, the Pirates announced. The Pirates have optioned Devanney to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he'll serve as middle-infield depth. The 28-year-old former 15th-round selection in 2019 out of Elon University by the Milwaukee Brewers has the ability to play pretty much every infield position and can also serve as an outfielder in a pinch, which will increase his odds of making his MLB debut in Pittsburgh later this year. In 69 games at Triple-A Omaha in the first half of 2025, Devanney hit .272/.366/.565 with a .931 OPS, 18 home runs, 55 RBI, 41 runs scored and three steals in 288 trips to the plate. He's a .253 hitter in six minor-league seasons and had a career-high 23 bombs in 2022.

Kansas City Royals infield prospect Cam Devanney is tied atop the minor league leaderboard with the Athletics' Nick Kurtz with four home runs through his first eight games at Triple-A this season. In addition to the home runs, the right-handed hitter is batting .370 with eight RBI, seven runs scored, and a stolen base. The former 15th-round pick belted 19 home runs last season at Triple-A and hit .254 in 136 games, but a high 26.0 percent strikeout rate may have been too concerning for the Royals to call him up for his MLB debut. That, and the fact that he's blocked at his primary position -- shortstop -- by one of the best players in theleague in Bobby Witt Jr. Still, theproduct out of Elon University has played a lot of second and thirdbase in the minors as well, so as long as he continues to hit, the Royals will hopefully find a place for him in the lineup at some point this season. Until he's up in the big leagues getting regular at-bats, however, the 27-year-old is not relevant for fantasy.
